Claremore, Okla. – The Rogers State women’s basketball team cruised to its second straight Sooner Athletic Conference victory with a 69-47 rout over St. Gregory’s on Thursday evening at the Claremore Expo.
The Hillcats led by as many as 31 points in the second half. RSU received a balance scoring attack with 10 players contributing in points column while all 11 players saw action in the contest. Angie Criner and Hunter Peterson led the Hillcats in scoring each posting 12 points. Senior Candice Stewart recorded nine points while Andrea Miles and Cortney Crockett both added eight points. Criner pulled in a game-high seven boards.
The teams opened the game trading buckets. However, RSU caught fire and outscored the Lady Cavaliers 34-10 in the final 12 minutes of the half. The Hillcats owned a 45-21 lead at the break. Peterson led all scorers at intermission with 10 points. The Jenks, Okla. native was perfect on offense in the first half with three field goals, two of those from long distance. She also hit both her shots from the charity stripe.
RSU was flawless from the free throw line on the night and shot 38-percent from the field. The Cats shot 40-percent from behind the arc in the first half yet managed a 10-percent effort in the closing period.
SGU recorded 23 turnovers while the Hillcats snagged 13 steal. Lady Cavs were 2-for- 22 from long distance and shot 33-percent from the field.
Rogers State (9-5, 3-4) will conclude its four-game stretch on Saturday as they travel to Shawnee to face Oklahoma Baptist. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. and the game will be broadcast live on RSU Radio 91.3 and on rsuhillcats.com.
