NEW YORK UNIVERSITY VIOLETS
Location: New York, NY
Division: NCAA Division 3
Conference Affiliation: University Athletic Association
Comment: How can you not love this name for your teams? Though this institution’s sports teams are called the Violets they use a bobcat with a violet collar as a logo since they wanted a mascot they could use at games. Still, I don’t see what would have been wrong with using a cartoonish Violet mascot in a college sports world where Stanford uses a tree mascot at games and Scottsdale has a Fighting Artichoke for Pete’s sake! The precedent for vegetative mascots has been well established. And I’m guessing it would cost too much to use Violet from Peanuts as a mascot so she’s out.
