BALLADEER’S BLOG: WNBA RESULTS AND THE NAIA WOMEN’S COLLEGE FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

More of my coverage of Women’s College Flag Football and my second round of covering WNBA results. The first time was years ago and interest quickly died, so we’ll see if it goes better this time.

NAIA

ottawa ks braves logoNATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP – The final day of the 2024 Flag Football playoffs saw the OTTAWA (KS) UNIVERSITY BRAVES needing a pair of wins to take their 4th straight National Championship. The 1st Game was against the WARNER UNIVERSITY ROYALS. A 7-7 opening Quarter tie remained unchanged at Halftime. The 3rd Quarter ended with the Braves up 14-7, and in the 4th, Ottawa defeated the Royals 21-13. QB Madysen Carrera went 31 of 39 for 271 yards and 3 Touchdowns.

In the climactic game the Braves clashed with the KEISER UNIVERSITY SEAHAWKS. After a scoreless 1st Quarter, Ottawa U. led 13-6 at the Half. From there the Braves shut out Keiser while scoring 13 more points for a 26-6 victory with Carrera going 34 of 41 for 246 yards and 4 Touchdowns. OTTAWA UNIVERSITY HAS BEEN THE ONLY CHAMPION IN FOUR SEASONS OF NAIA FLAG FOOTBALL.

BALLADEER’S BLOG: WOMEN’S COLLEGE FOOTBALL PLAYOFF RESULTS

NAIA POOL PLAY

warner u royalsBATTLE ROYAL – The WARNER UNIVERSITY ROYALS clashed with the WEBBER INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY WARRIORS.

The Warriors seized a quick 6-0 lead in the 1st Quarter and that score was unchanged headed into Halftime. In the 3rd Quarter the Royals knotted things up at 6-6 and the 4th saw Warner University go up 13-6. Webber International made it a 13-12 game late but failed at the PAT as the Royals won out 13-12.

thomas-university-night-hawks-bigAND AT THE OTHER EXTREME … – The THOMAS UNIVERSITY NIGHTHAWKS were anti-drama in their game against the REINHARDT UNIVERSITY EAGLES (should be the Rottweilers).

The Nighthawks dominated on both sides of the ball, converting a 20-0 opening Quarter lead into a 53-0 advantage at the Half. From there Thomas U. coasted to a SEVENTY-ONE to NOTHING annihilation of Reinhardt. Alexa Wilson of the Nighthawks passed for 23 of 27 for 230 yards and 8 touchdowns. Continue reading

milligan u buffaloesGAME ONE – The MILLIGAN UNIVERSITY BUFFALOES took on the LIFE UNIVERSITY RUNNING EAGLES.

WOMEN’S COLLEGE FOOTBALL RESULTS: BALLADEER’S BLOG

Reaction to last Sunday’s post about Women’s Flag Football was strong enough to keep it going for now.

NJCAA

bryant-and-stratton-college-bobcats logoINSTANT CLASSIC – In this game the BRYANT & STRATTON COLLEGE (Wisconsin) BOBCATS did battle with the FORT SCOTT COLLEGE GREYHOUNDS.

The crowd in attendance got a real treat with a game that was much tighter than many others in this emerging intercollegiate sport. The two teams went score for score for a time until the Bobcats came out on top by a final score of Bryant & Stratton College 18  Greyhounds 12.

florida gateway college timberwolvesLIKE I WAS SAYING ABOVE … – At the other end of the spectrum came this very lopsided affair between the defending champions – the FLORIDA GATEWAY COLLEGE TIMBERWOLVES – and the PASCO-HERNANDEZ STATE BOBCATS.

Pasco-Hernandez State was more like the Timberwolves’ prey than their opponents in this gridiron matchup. Florida Gateway College dominated the Bobcats on both sides of the ball on their way to a FIFTY-ONE to NOTHING blowout win. Continue reading

WOMEN’S COLLEGE FOOTBALL RESULTS FROM BALLADEER’S BLOG

mascot chair and bottle picReaders let me know a few years back that they were bored with college baseball so I discontinued my coverage. Let’s give Women’s College Football a shot. Once again, it’s up to you readers if I continue covering this sport, which is Flag Football.

Right now, Flag Football is an accredited sport only in the NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) and NJCAA (National Junior College Athletic Association) as well as a few NCAA colleges. More will launch Flag Football beginning in 2025 and the Olympics are adding it in 2028.

NJCAA

hesston college larks“SHOW US YOUR LARK!” – This weekend the HESSTON COLLEGE LARKS – who were the runners-up in last year’s National Championship game – won a pair of games on the road. First up, the Larks delivered a 20-7 smackdown to the BRYANT & STRATTON COLLEGE (WI) BOBCATS.

The second win came against the FORT SCOTT COLLEGE GREYHOUNDS. Hesston College’s women won this game by an even bigger margin. The final tally in this Flag Football clash was 21-6. Continue reading
