Readers let me know a few years back that they were bored with college baseball so I discontinued my coverage. Let’s give Women’s College Football a shot. Once again, it’s up to you readers if I continue covering this sport, which is Flag Football.
Right now, Flag Football is an accredited sport only in the NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) and NJCAA (National Junior College Athletic Association) as well as a few NCAA colleges. More will launch Flag Football beginning in 2025 and the Olympics are adding it in 2028.
NJCAA
“SHOW US YOUR LARK!” – This weekend the HESSTON COLLEGE LARKS – who were the runners-up in last year’s National Championship game – won a pair of games on the road. First up, the Larks delivered a 20-7 smackdown to the BRYANT & STRATTON COLLEGE (WI) BOBCATS.
The second win came against the FORT SCOTT COLLEGE GREYHOUNDS. Hesston College’s women won this game by an even bigger margin. The final tally in this Flag Football clash was 21-6.
“TIMMMM-BERRRRR!” – The FLORIDA GATEWAY COLLEGE TIMBERWOLVES – the reigning National Champions in this women’s sport – likewise won handily in a pair of contests this weekend. First, the Timberwolves shut out the FLORIDA ATLANTIC UNIVERSITY OWLS 33-0.
Up next, Florida Gateway College dealt out another shutout, this time blanking the UNIVERSITY OF FORT LAUDERDALE EAGLES (should be the Flamingos) by a final score of 42-0.
EAGER BEAVERS – The PRATT COLLEGE BEAVERS were also Road Warriors in a Flag Football game against the GRACELAND UNIVERSITY YELLOW JACKETS.
This was a much closer affair than any of the above games, but it was still largely one-way as the women of Pratt College dominated the Yellow Jackets. In the end the Beavers more than doubled-up on Graceland University, winning out 28-12.
NAIA
BAKING THE COMPETITION – The BAKER UNIVERSITY WILDCATS welcomed the COTTEY COLLEGE COMETS in this game. The Wildcats led 14-0 in the opening Quarter, but by Halftime the Comets had cut that to a 14-6 advantage.
After the break, Baker University outscored Cottey College 24-6 as they smoked them by a final score of 38-12. Sanija Waller of the Wildcats threw for 207 yards and 4 touchdowns.
WIN IT IN THE FOURTH – The SOUTHWESTERN COLLEGE MOUNDBUILDERS traveled to face the UNIVERSITY OF SAINT MARY SPIRES. The 1st Quarter ended in a 6-6 tie, but by the Half the Moundbuilders had acquired an 18-14 edge.
In the 3rd Quarter, the Spires went up 26-24 over Southwestern College. The 4th saw the Moundbuilders leave the University of Saint Mary behind for a 37-26 victory. SC’s Miranda Dooley logged 310 yards passing with 5 touchdowns.
HOME OF THE BRAVES – The OTTAWA (KS) UNIVERSITY BRAVES took on the KANSAS WESELYAN UNIVERSITY COYOTES. The Braves converted their 7-0 1st Quarter lead into a 13-0 advantage by the midpoint.
From there, Ottawa University kept the Coyotes off the scoreboard until the 4th Quarter on their way to a 27-8 triumph. Madysen Carrera of the Braves put up 229 yards through the air for her team.
Didn’t even know there was Women’s college football!
I’m always glad to spread the word!
Do you cover the WNBA? It just got more interesting with Caitlin Clark.
I used to years ago, but after the first season or so, the WNBA blog posts started to get no hits. Buy you’re right, with Caitlin Clark in there now, I will give it another try to see if reader interest lasts longer this time.
