ohiochristiantrailblazersNATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME – The title game was played yesterday in Division Two of the NCCAA (National Christian College Athletic Association). The top seeded defending national champions – the OHIO CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY TRAILBLAZERS took on the 2nd seeded ARLINGTON BAPTIST COLLEGE PATRIOTS for the crown. When all the dust had settled in this clash the Trailblazers had made it two national championships in a row, defeating the Patriots by a final score of 91-69.   ###   CONGRATULATIONS TO THE TRAILBLAZERS!

COLLEGE BASKETBALL: NATIONAL TOURNAMENTS CONTINUE IN THE NAIA, NCCAA, NJCAA AND CCCAA

*** NAIA ***

Midland University WarriorsROUND TWO GAME ONE – The 10th seeded MIDLAND UNIVERSITY WARRIORS and the 7th seeded SAINT XAVIER UNIVERSITY COUGARS fought it out for the first slot in the Elite Eight. The Cougars got off to a quick 7-3 lead but with just 4:30 left in the Half everything was tied up at 21-21. From there the Warriors dominated til the buzzer sounded and took a 37-23 lead into the break. With just 2:06 left in the game the tally stood at 57-56, Midland. This became a 64-59 Warrior lead as the final seconds ticked off, with the Cougars making it a 64-61 final score as time expired.

Davenport PanthersROUND TWO GAME TWO – The 9th seeded DAVENPORT UNIVERSITY PANTHERS did battle with the 8th seeded BELLEVUE UNIVERSITY BRUINS in the second game of the day yesterday. At one point in the opening Half the Panthers led the Bruins 29-19 but by Halftime the score was a much closer count of Davenport 31  Bellevue 29. In the closing 20 minutes the tension continued with any run by the Panthers met by one on the part of the Bruins. COLLEGE BASKETBALL: DAY TWO OF THE NAIA AND NCCAA NATIONAL TOURNAMENTS, DAY ONE FOR THE NJCAA

*** NAIA ***

okwesleyaneaglesDAY TWO GAME ONE – The (unseeded) OKLAHOMA WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY EAGLES trailed the 12th seeded MORNINGSIDE COLLEGE MUSTANGS 19-6 early on but, powered by their three-point shooting the Eagles came storming back. OWU led 39-31 at Halftime but a 16-5 run by the Mustangs kept everything tight throughout the 2nd Half. In the end the Eagles completed the upset, defeating Morningside College 76-72.

Indiana Wesleyan WildcatsDAY TWO GAME TWO – OWU’s team of Eagles may have survived but luckily for everyone who is fed up with the overused team name Eagles the 5th seeded INDIANA WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY WILDCATS prevailed over the (unseeded) REINHARDT UNIVERSITY EAGLES. The Wildcats led Reinhardt 38-30 at the break and pressed down on the accelerator in the 2nd Half, dominating on both sides of the ball for an Continue reading

COLLEGE BASKETBALL: NATIONAL TOURNAMENT ACTION FOR THE NAIA AND NCCAA

*** NAIA ***

Midland University WarriorsGAME ONE – The 10th seeded MIDLAND UNIVERSITY WARRIORS set in motion a day of reckoning for the annoyingly large number of college sports teams called Eagles. The Warriors took on the (unseeded) EMBRY-RIDDLE AERONAUTICAL UNIVERSITY EAGLES, whom I still say should change their team’s name to the Aeronauts. Anyway, Midland University held a 38-31 Halftime lead and withstood various runs by Embry-Riddle that brought them closer throughout the 2nd Half. In the end the Warriors moved on by a score of 69-61.

Saint xavier university cougars new logoGAME TWO – The 7th seeded SAINT XAVIER UNIVERSITY COUGARS kept the anti-Eagle mojo going in their clash with the (unseeded) CINCINNATI CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY EAGLES, who were making their first ever National Tournament appearance. A 10-0 run very early in the game put the Cougars up 19-4 and a 20-9 run to close the Half left them with a commanding 44-25 advantage. The Eagles closed to 54-44 with over 10 minutes to play in the game and made it a 4 point game of 61-57 at the 5:52 mark. From there SXU sprinted for an Continue reading

*** ACCA ***

Arlington Baptist PatriotsNATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME – The ARLINGTON BAPTIST COLLEGE PATRIOTS won their school’s first ever National Championship in the ACCA (Association of Christian College Athletics). The Patriots led their familiar foes the RHEMA BIBLE COLLEGE EAGLES at Halftime by a score of 40-26 then continued to dominate all through the Second Half, cutting down the nets following their 85-67 victory. Jeremiah Ford led the Patriots with 26 points and 13 rebounds. Ford was also the ACCA National Tournament MVP. * CONGRATULATIONS TO THE PATRIOTS *

*** USCAA DIV ONE ***

Washington Adventist University ShockNATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME – Yesterday the 4th seeded WASHINGTON ADVENTIST UNIVERSITY SHOCK squared off against the 6th seeded TENNESSEE TEMPLE UNIVERSITY CRUSADERS for the 2014 title in Division One of the USCAA (United States Collegiate Athletic Association). Sadly, after all the excellent basketball that led up to this championship bout the title clash was very, very disappointing. The Shock led the Crusaders by an odd score of 28-17 at Halftime and went on to win 61-38. * CONGRATULATIONS TO THE SHOCK. *

*** USCAA DIV TWO ***

Andrews U CardinalsNATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME – The USCAA’s Division Two Championship was decided by something that more closely resembled a competitive game. For the second year in a row Division Two’s battle for the crown featured a pair of Cinderellas. The 6th seeded ANDREWS UNIVERSITY CARDINALS held a 37-26 lead at the break over the 8 seeds, the PSU-BEAVER NITTANY LIONS and when all was said and done won the game by a final score of Continue reading

COLLEGE BASKETBALL: MORE POSTSEASON ACTION IN THE NAIA, NCCAA, ACCA, USCAA, NCAA, NJCAA AND CCCAA (BUT NOT THE NAACP OR THE CIA)

*** NAIA ***

Life UniversityASSOCIATION OF INDEPENDENT INSTITUTIONS – In the opening round of this conference’s tournament the 3rd seeded LIFE UNIVERSITY RUNNING EAGLES folded, spindled and mutilated the 6th seeded MORRIS COLLEGE HORNETS. The Running Eagles (no, not the Flying Squirrels, the Running Eagles) won in a Century Club- level 101-72 performance.   ###   And the 4 seeds – the WEST VIRGINIA TECH GOLDEN BEARS won a much tighter 80-75 affair against the 5th seeded ALLEN UNIVERSITY YELLOW JACKETS.

Westminster GriffinsFRONTIER CONFERENCE – SEMIFINALS – The 2nd seeded WESTMINSTER (UT) GRIFFINS battled the 5th seeded LEWIS-CLARK STATE WARRIORS and bounced them by a score of 90-84.   ###   And in the other Semifinal from the Frontier Conference the top seeded ROCKY MOUNTAIN COLLEGE BATTLIN’ BEARS prevented the 6th seeded UNIVERSITY OF GREAT FALLS ARGONAUTS from following up on their upset of 3rd seeded MSUN. The Battlin’ Bears edged the Argonauts in a Continue reading

COLLEGE BASKETBALL: NAIA CONFERENCE TOURNAMENTS CONTINUE, USCAA NATIONAL TOURNAMENT ENTERS DAY TWO

*** NAIA ***

Park PiratesBIGAMERICAN MIDWEST CONFERENCE – Last night the 4th seeded PARK UNIVERSITY PIRATES played a hardcourt Armageddon against the 5 seeds, the WILLIAMS BAPTIST COLLEGE EAGLES (one of roughly 9,879 college teams called “Eagles”). The two squads went into Overtime before the Pirates emerged with a tight 79-75 victory   ###   Meanwhile in an absolute orgy of offensive output the 2nd seeded FREED- HARDEMAN UNIVERSITY LIONS ran up a Century Club-level victory over the 10th seeded HARRIS- STOWE STATE HORNETS by a score of 120-91 (which NFL Commisioner Roger Goodell has admitted is his target score for every NFL game in the near future)   ###   The top seeded COLUMBIA (MO) COUGARS dispatched the 7th seeded WILLIAM WOODS UNIVERSITY OWLS 79-65   ###   And  in yet ANOTHER 6 seed over 3 seed upset the BENEDICTINE- SPRINGFIELD BULLDOGS eliminated the LYON COLLEGE SCOTS in a 73-72 nailbiter.

Hope International University RoyalsGOLDEN STATE ATHLETIC CONFERENCE – The 3rd seeded HOPE INTERNATIONAL ROYALS avoided the “6 over 3” curse that has plagued this postseason. The Royals defeated the 6th seeded CONCORDIA (CA) EAGLES (who I still say should go by “Condors” instead) by a score of 73-65.   ###   But the BIG news in this conference last night came from the massive upset that the SEVENTH SEEDED MASTER’S MUSTANGS inflicted on the SECOND SEEDED ARIZONA CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY FIRESTORM. It wasn’t just the 7 over 2 upset NOR the fact that the game went into Double Overtime before the Mustangs won 80-77. No the REAL distinction this game had was that it was the only GSAC game yesterday that did NOT feature a team called Eagles.   ###   Meanwhile the Continue reading
