Central State marauders helmetDIVISION TWO OWNS DIVISION ONE – Three Division 2 teams downed Division 1 teams on Saturday – the CENTRAL STATE MARAUDERS edged their hosts the MISSISSIPPI VALLEY STATE DELTA DEVILS 24-21   ###   The VIRGINIA STATE TROJANS won 33-24 at the NORFOLK STATE SPARTANS   ###   And the BOWIE STATE BULLDOGS doubled-up on the home standing DELAWARE STATE HORNETS 22-11.

St John's Johnnies helmetKNOCKING OFF NUMBERS THREE & FOUR – NCAA Division 3’s 6th ranked ST. JOHN’S UNIVERSITY JOHNNIES won a 34-31 Overtime thriller against the number 4 team in the nation – the TRINITY (TX) TIGERS    ###    And the (23) UW-RIVER FALLS FALCONS clobbered the 3rd ranked UNIVERSITY OF MARY HARDIN-BAYLOR CRUSADERS 45-22.    Continue reading

COLLEGE FOOTBALL RESULTS FROM AUGUST 31st

Carroll_MTFRONTIER CONFERENCE FRACAS – The CARROLL (MT) COLLEGE FIGHTING SAINTS visited the MONTANA TECH OREDIGGERS in this game. A 7-0 1st Quarter lead for the Fighting Saints was trimmed to just 14-10 by Halftime. The Orediggers pulled to within 14-13 to end the 3rd Quarter but CC won out 21-19 in the 4th.

Mississippi_College_OLD1D3 OVER NAIA – The MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE CHOCTAWS snuck past their hosts the KEISER UNIVERSITY SEAHAWKS in a 17-14 thriller    ###    While the UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN-LACROSSE EAGLES won much more easily at the DAKOTA STATE TROJANS, spanking them by a score of 31-6. 

louisiana christian u wildcatsNAIA OVER D3 – This game pitted the LOUISIANA CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY WILDCATS against the visiting EAST TEXAS BAPTIST UNIVERSITY TIGERS. The Wildcats led 13-0 in the opening Quarter and 24-7 at the break. After a scoreless 3rd Quarter, LCU consummated their win 34-14. Continue reading

COLLEGE FOOTBALL RESULTS FROM AUGUST 26th

Balladeer’s Blog continues its college football coverage on this weekend which kicked off the 2023 season in two of the divisions I deal with here.

NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics)

Rocky Mountain CollegeUPSETS IN THE RANKINGS – The ROCKY MOUNTAIN COLLEGE BATTLIN’ BEARS hosted the 19th ranked DICKINSON STATE BLUE HAWKS yesterday and upset them in a 20-19 nailbiter    ###    And the EVANGEL UNIVERSITY VALOR took down the visiting number 20 KANSAS WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY COYOTES.

Morningside MustangsTUSSLE IN THE TOP SEVEN – The number 4 team in the nation – the MORNINGSIDE UNIVERSITY MUSTANGS – took it on the road against the 7th ranked BENEDICTINE COLLEGE RAVENS. The Mustangs led 7-0 in the 1st Quarter but the Ravens went up 10-7 by Halftime. That turned into a 13-10 edge for Morningside University to end the 3rd Quarter before the Mustangs won out 20-17 in the 4th.

montana state northern lights goldSHUTOUTS – The MONTANA STATE-NORTHERN LIGHTS blanked the MAYVILLE STATE COMETS 14-0   ###   Meanwhile, the UNION COLLEGE BULLDOGS won 27-0 at the CUMBERLAND UNIVERSITY PHOENIX   ###   And the UNIVERSITY OF THE CUMBERLANDS PATRIOTS clobbered the KENTUCKY CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY KNIGHTS 44-0. BALLADEER’S BLOG’S COLLEGE FOOTBALL RESULTS FROM AUGUST 24th

The 2023 college football season kicked off last night in some of the divisions covered here at Balladeer’s Blog.

Valley City State Vikings helmetJIMMIES AT VIKINGS – The VALLEY CITY STATE VIKINGS hosted the UNIVERSITY OF JAMESTOWN JIMMIES in NAIA action last night. The Jimmies were on top 8-0 to end the 1st Quarter and 8-7 come Halftime. In the 3rd Quarter the Vikings went up 20-8 before winning the game by a final score of 23-15.

garden-city-broncbusters-helmet-newINSTANT CLASSIC IN KANSAS – In Jayhawk Conference action in the NJCAA the (9) GARDEN CITY COLLEGE BRONCBUSTERS took the field against the visiting (12) BUTLER (KS) GRIZZLIES. A scoreless opening Quarter was followed by a 7-7 tie at the Half. The 3rd Quarter ended with the Broncbusters clinging to a 13-9 edge. From there Garden City College defeated the Grizzlies 27-22. Northwestern College Red RaidersNATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME – The NORTHWESTERN (IA) COLLEGE RED RAIDERS and the KEISER UNIVERSITY SEAHAWKS battled it out for the NAIA title on Saturday. After a scoreless 1st Quarter, Halftime arrived with things knotted up at 7-7. The Red Raiders went on top 21-17 in the 3rd Quarter, and an action-packed 4th saw Northwestern College defeat the Seahawks 35-25. * THE RED RAIDERS ARE NAIA CHAMPIONS *

BALLADEER’S BLOG’S COLLEGE FOOTBALL PLAYOFF RESULTS FROM DECEMBER 10th

The NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME in the NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) will be played Saturday, December 17th.

Northwestern College Red Raiderskeiser helmetThe competing teams are the NORTH-WESTERN (IA) COLLEGE RED RAIDERS and the KEISER UNIVERSITY SEA HAWKS. Kickoff is scheduled for 12 Noon ET.

NCAA DIVISON TWO

Colorado Mines Orediggers NEWFIRST SEMIFINAL – The COLORADO SCHOOL OF MINES OREDIGGERS took the field against the SHEPHERD UNIVERSITY RAMS in this game. A 3-0 1st Quarter edge for the Orediggers turned into a 17-3 advantage by Halftime. After the break the Colorado School of Mines limited the Rams to just 10 points in the 4th Quarter while piling up points for themselves. The final score was Orediggers 44  Shepherd U. 13. BALLADEER’S BLOG’S COLLEGE FOOTBALL PLAYOFF AND BOWL RESULTS: DECEMBER 3rd

Keiser SeahawksFIRST SEMIFINAL – The KEISER UNIVERSITY SEA HAWKS visited the GRAND VIEW UNIVERSITY VIKINGS (should be the Zebras) in this game. The 1st Quarter ended with the Sea Hawks up 7-0 before expanding that to a 21-7 advantage by Halftime. After the break, Keiser University outscored Grand View 17-14 for a 38-21 Upset and a trip to the title game on December 17th. 

northwestern ia redSECOND SEMIFINAL – Up next the NORTHWESTERN (IA) COLLEGE RED RAIDERS took the field against the INDIANA WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY WILDCATS. A 17-0 Red Raiders lead in the opening Quarter remained unchanged at the Half. The 3rd Quarter ended with Northwestern College on top 31-0 and the 4th in a 38-7 Red Raiders win. It will be Red Raiders and Sea Hawks in the Championship Game.

NCAA DIVISION TWO

Colorado Mines Orediggers NEWFIRST QUARTERFINAL – The COLORADO SCHOOL OF MINES OREDIGGERS faced their hosts the ANGELO STATE RAMS. The Orediggers led 14-7 in the 1st Quarter and 21-10 at the break. From there Colorado School of Mines managed a bit more separation from the Rams for a 42-24 Upset victory. Continue reading

BALLADEER’S BLOG’S COLLEGE FOOTBALL PLAYOFF AND BOWL RESULTS FROM NOVEMBER 26th

Keiser SeahawksFIRST QUARTERFINAL – In this game the KEISER UNIVERSITY SEAHAWKS delivered the Upset of the Playoffs so far on a visit to the defending National Champions – the MORNINGSIDE COLLEGE MUSTANGS. The Mustangs led 21-3 in the 1st Quarter but felt their grip slipping when the Seahawks pulled to within 21-10 by Halftime. The 3rd Quarter ended with Morningside up 28-16, but in the 4th Keiser U. exploded for a 29-28 win.

northwestern ia redSECOND QUARTERFINAL – The NORTHWESTERN (IA) COLLEGE RED RAIDERS played the MARIAN UNIVERSITY KNIGHTS. The Red Raiders shut out the Knights in the opening Half, leading them 35-0 going into the locker room. Marian’s offense perked up after the break, but were in too big a hole.
