BALLADEER’S BLOG’S COLLEGE FOOTBALL PLAYOFF AND BOWL RESULTS FROM NOVEMBER 26th

NAIA PLAYOFFS

Keiser SeahawksFIRST QUARTERFINAL – In this game the KEISER UNIVERSITY SEAHAWKS delivered the Upset of the Playoffs so far on a visit to the defending National Champions – the MORNINGSIDE COLLEGE MUSTANGS. The Mustangs led 21-3 in the 1st Quarter but felt their grip slipping when the Seahawks pulled to within 21-10 by Halftime. The 3rd Quarter ended with Morningside up 28-16, but in the 4th Keiser U. exploded for a 29-28 win.

northwestern ia redSECOND QUARTERFINAL – The NORTHWESTERN (IA) COLLEGE RED RAIDERS played the MARIAN UNIVERSITY KNIGHTS. The Red Raiders shut out the Knights in the opening Half, leading them 35-0 going into the locker room. Marian’s offense perked up after the break, but were in too big a hole. Northwestern won out 52-27.

HELMETGrand_View_IATHIRD QUARTERFINAL – Up next the GRAND VIEW UNIVERSITY VIKINGS took on the LINDSEY WILSON COLLEGE BLUE RAIDERS. This was a defensive epic, as a 7-7 tie at Halftime went unchanged all the way into the 4th Quarter, when the Vikings notched a Field Goal and a 10-7 victory. 

indiana wesleyan helmet faceFOURTH QUARTERFINAL – This game pitted the INDIANA WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY WILDCATS against the BENEDICTINE COLLEGE RAVENS. A 7-0 1st Quarter edge for the Wildcats became 21-6 by the break. In the 2nd Half the defenses dominated as Indiana Wesleyan University won by a score of 24-13.

NCAA DIVISION TWO PLAYOFFS

West Florida Argonauts helmetARGOS ON THE ROAD – The UNIVERSITY OF WEST FLORIDA ARGONAUTS traveled to face the DELTA STATE STATESMEN. Come Halftime the Statesmen were out in front 17-10 and that expanded to a 24-10 advantage to end the 3rd Quarter. The Argonauts came alive in the 4th for a 38-27 triumph.

Ferris State BulldogsDOGS IN THE FOURTH – The FERRIS STATE BULLDOGS took the field against the PITTSBURG (KS) STATE GORILLAS in this game. The Bulldogs led Pittsburg State 14-7 at the Half, but the Gorillas knotted things up at 14-14 in the 3rd Quarter. The 4th saw Ferris State win out by a score of 17-14.

Colorado Mines Orediggers NEWSHOOTOUT – The COLORADO SCHOOL OF MINES OREDIGGERS welcomed the MINNESOTA STATE MAVERICKS. Points flew in this clash with a 28-28 Halftime tie becoming a 38-31 Orediggers edge to end the 3rd Quarter. A Mavericks surge in the 4th fell short as Colorado Mines got a 48-45 victory.

Grand Valley StateDUELING DEFENSES – At the opposite end came this battle between the GRAND VALLEY STATE LAKERS played the NORTHWEST MISSOURI STATE BEARCATS. A 7-0 opening Quarter lead for the Lakers remained unchanged at the Half. In the 3rd Quarter the Bearcats made it a 7-5 game before Grand Valley State won it 13-8 in the 4th.

IUP Crimson HawksTHIS GAME WAS FOR THE BIRDS – The INDIANA UNIVERSITY IN PENNSYLVANIA CRIMSON HAWKS squared off against the ASHLAND UNIVERSITY EAGLES. The Eagles saw a 7-6 1st Quarter edge turn into a 12-7 lead for the Crimson Hawks by the break. From there, IUP held off Ashland for a 19-13 triumph.

Angelo State Rams helmetTHE YEAR OF THE RAM – The ANGELO STATE RAMS routed the visiting BEMIDJI STATE BEAVERS to the tune of 33-7    ###    And the SHEPHERD UNIVERSITY RAMS pulled off a much tighter victory over the SLIPPERY ROCK UNIVERSITY ROCK. The final score in this game was Shepherd U 37  Slippery Rock 27. 

Wingate Bulldogs helmetDOGS AND CATS – The WINGATE UNIVERSITY BULLDOGS found themselves up against the BENEDICT COLLEGE TIGERS. The Bulldogs limited the Tigers offense to just 6 points in the 3rd Quarter as they scored fairly often themselves. Wingate U. led 16-0 at the midpoint and 16-6 in the 3rd Quarter before winning the game 23-6.

NCAA DIVISION THREE PLAYOFFS

wartburg knights helmetSETTING THE THEME – Half the playoff games in D3 yesterday ended in Upsets. The WARTBURG COLLEGE KNIGHTS got things rolling against their hosts the SAINT JOHN’S UNIVERSITY JOHNNIES. The Knights put the Johnnies on Upset Alert at Halftime with a 16-6 advantage. From there Wartburg carried through with a 23-20 victory.

helmetmaryhardinbaylorTEXAS TUSSLE – The UNIVERSITY OF MARY HARDIN-BAYLOR CRUSADERS visited the TRINITY UNIVERSITY TIGERS. The Crusaders led 7-0 in the 1st Quarter and 10-0 by the Half. The Tigers outscored UMHB after the break 17-14, but the Crusaders still moved on to the next round, winning the game 24-17.

Bethel (MN) Royals helmetROYAL UPSET – In this game the BETHEL (MN) UNIVERSITY ROYALS were on the road against the LINFIELD COLLEGE WILDCATS. The Royals led their opponents 7-3, 17-13 and 24-13 in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Quarters, respectively. The 4th Quarter saw Bethel U. log a 30-13 triumph.

aurora spartansSPARTY FOR THE WIN – The AURORA UNIVERSITY SPARTANS smacked around the home standing ALMA COLLEGE SCOTS in their 2nd Round game yesterday. The Spartans parlayed a 7-6 opening Quarter edge into a 34-6 Halftime lead. After the break Aurora U. coasted to a win over the Scots 48-26.

Delaware AggiesVICTORY IN THE VALLEY – The DELAWARE VALLEY UNIVERSITY AGGIES were up against the RANDOLPH-MACON COLLEGE YELLOW JACKETS. These two teams had fought to an 18-18 deadlock by the midpoint of the game. The Yellow Jackets went up 32-18 in the 3rd Quarter followed by the Aggies coming from behind in the 4th for a 39-32 win.

Ithaca BombersEXPLOSIVE GAME – The ITHACA COLLEGE BOMBERS took on the SPRINGFIELD COLLEGE PRIDE. After chasing Springfield College 10-7 in the 1st Quarter the Bombers eked out a 21-20 edge at Halftime. From there, Ithaca College shut out the Pride to win the game 31-20.

Mount Union Purple RaidersHAPPY HOMESTANDS – The UNIVERSITY OF MOUNT UNION PURPLE RAIDERS thoroughly embarrassed the UTICA COLLEGE PIONEERS by clobbering them 45-7    ###    And the NORTH CENTRAL COLLEGE CARDINALS routed the CARNEGIE MELLON UNIVERSITY TARTANS in a 28-7 affair.

CCCAA PLAYOFFS

Riverside College TigersSCFA SEMIFINAL ONE – The top seeds – the RIVERSIDE CITY COLLEGE TIGERS – played the 4th seeded VENTURA COLLEGE PIRATES. A 20-14 1st Quarter edge for the Tigers grew to 33-17 at the Half. The Pirates pulled to within 40-32 in the 3rd Quarter, but the 4th saw RCC triumph 47-32. 

Fullerton College HornetsSCFA SEMIFINAL TWO – The 2nd seeded FULLERTON COLLEGE HORNETS took on the 3 seeds – the MOUNT SAN ANTONIO COLLEGE MOUNTIES. At the midpoint the Mounties led 17-14 before the Hornets grabbed a 32-31 3rd Quarter lead. The final tally was Fullerton 45  Mount S.A.C. 41.

San Mateo BulldogsNCFC SEMIFINAL ONE – The top seeded COLLEGE OF SAN MATEO BULLDOGS clashed with the 4th seeded MODESTO COLLEGE PIRATES. The Bulldogs shut out the Pirates, leading them 7-0, 10-0 and 20-0 in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Quarters respectively before clinching a 30-0 victory.

American River College BeaversNCFC SEMIFINAL TWO – The 3 seeds – the AMERICAN RIVER COLLEGE BEAVERS – pulled off an Upset against the 2nd seeded LANEY COLLEGE EAGLES. After a scoreless opening Quarter, the Beavers took a 14-0 advantage into the Half. That became 29-7 in the 3rd Quarter and 43-21 to end the game. 

CCCAA BOWL GAMES

Golden West College RustlersPATRIOTIC BOWL – The GOLDEN WEST COLLEGE RUSTLERS had it out with the EAST LOS ANGELES COLLEGE HUSKIES. The Rustlers grabbed a quick 7-0 lead in the 1st Quarter, which became a 14-7 advantage by Halftime. After the break Golden West College outscored the Huskies 18-7 for a 32-14 win.

San Diego Mesa CollegeSO-CAL BOWL – The SAN DIEGO MESA COLLEGE OLYMPIANS played the EL CAMINO COLLEGE WARRIORS in the Southern California Bowl. The 1st Quarter ended with the Olympians up 7-3 and by the Half that became a 14-10 lead. From there San Diego Mesa College prevailed in a 21-20 Instant Classic. 

allan hancock college bulldogsSTRAWBERRY BOWL – This Bowl pitted the ALLAN HANCOCK COLLEGE BULLDOGS against the MOORPARK COLLEGE RAIDERS. Neither team mustered a single point in the 1st Half, but the Raiders were on top 14-7 in the 3rd Quarter. The 4th ended in a 17-17 deadlock, and in Overtime the Bulldogs won the game 20-17.

Citrus College Owls helmetCHAMPIONSHIP BOWL – The CITRUS COLLEGE OWLS clashed with the MOUNT SAN JACINTO COLLEGE EAGLES. A scoreless opening Quarter was followed by a 7-7 tie at Halftime. The Owls gradually took control from there, leading the Eagles 14-7 in the 3rd Quarter before winning a 31-20 contest.

Santa Barbara City College helmetBEACH BOWL – In this game the SANTA BARBARA CITY COLLEGE VAQUEROS played the COLLEGE OF THE DESERT ROADRUNNERS. This was a tale of two Halves as the Vaqueros led 7-3 in the 1st Quarter and 17-10 by the break. From there, SBCC dominated the Roadrunners for a 44-23 victory.

Cerritos Falcons helmetWESTERN STATE BOWL – The teams competing in this Bowl were the CERRITOS COLLEGE FALCONS and the LONG BEACH COLLEGE VIKINGS (should be the Beachcombers). By Halftime the Falcons led by a score of 21-14 but the Vikings tied things up at 21-21 to end the 3rd Quarter. In the 4th Cerritos College logged a 35-28 win.
