NAIA COLLEGE BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME, PLUS NCCAA PLAYOFF ACTION

freed hardeman university lionsNATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME – It was a case of Lion-on-Lion violence as the FREED-HARDEMAN UNIVERSITY LIONS did battle with the LANGSTON UNIVERSITY LIONS (should be Hugheses) for the title.   

At Halftime Langston University was on top 40-31 but after the break FHU was primed for a comeback. The Lions outscored the figurative “Hugheses” 40-27 for a 71-67 triumph and their first ever hoops crown. Quan Lax led Freed-Hardeman in this total team effort with his 15 points.

NCCAA (NATIONAL CHRISTIAN COLLEGE ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION) DIVISION ONE

sagu aic warriorsFIRST QUARTERFINAL – The 6 seeds – the SAGU-AMERICAN INDIAN COLLEGE WARRIORS – had a surprise in store for the 3rd seeded MISSION UNIVERSITY PATRIOTS.

The Warriors put Mission University on Upset Alert by the Half with their 41-31 advantage. From there SAGU-AIC maintained their intensity against the Patriots, moving on to the semifinals by a final score of 80-64. Harley Upton’s 24 points led the Warriors, while his teammate Keyshawn Celestino-Clyde logged a Double Double of 16 points and 11 rebounds.  Continue reading

BALLADEER’S BLOG’S COLLEGE BASKETBALL: NAIA ELITE EIGHT SET

evangel valorELITE EIGHT: FIRST BERTH – The EVANGEL UNIVERSITY VALOR faced the LEWIS-CLARK STATE WARRIORS (should be Explorers).

This was a tale of two Halves as the Valor thoroughly dominated the opening, leading their opponents 43-26 at the break. From there Evangel University had to hold on by their fingertips against a furious Warriors rally for a 77-74 victory. Garrett Davault of the Valor led his team with 22 points.  Continue reading

BALLADEER’S BLOG: NAIA COLLEGE BASKETBALL NATIONAL TOURNAMENT ROUND ONE

NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics)

Mid-America Christian University EvangelsWICHITA SITE – The 10 seeds – the MID-AMERICA CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY EVANGELS – faced the 7th seeded HASTINGS COLLEGE BRONCOS.

The opening Half was a defensive epic and ended with the Evangels up 28-27. After the break each team added another 40 points to their tally, with Mid-America Christian University edging the Broncos 68-67. Seth Hurd and Mikel Henderson led the Evangels with 16 points each.

university of tennessee southern firehawksMARION SITE – This game pitted the 7th seeded TENNESSEE SOUTHERN UNIVERSITY FIREHAWKS against the 10 seeds – the TOUGALOO COLLEGE BULLDOGS. 

The Firehawks held a comfortable 45-28 lead at Halftime. The Bulldogs mounted a fierce rally from there, but still fell short as Tennessee Southern U. triumphed by a final score of 91-84. Eighteen points from Mark Vance led the Firehawks. Continue reading

BALLADEER’S BLOG: MORE NAIA CONFERENCE CHAMPIONS MOVE ON TO NATIONAL TOURNAMENT

lsu alexandria generals logoRED RIVER ATHLETIC CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME – The LSU-ALEXANDRIA GENERALS clashed with the UNIVERSITY OF THE SOUTHWEST MUSTANGS for the RRAC crown. The Generals compiled a comfortable 47-32 advantage by Halftime. After the break they managed even more separation from the Mustangs, ultimately defeating them handily 90-72. Kashie Natt led LSU-Alexandria in scoring with his 24 points. Continue reading

BALLADEER’S BLOG: MORE COLLEGE BASKETBALL CONFERENCE CHAMPIONS CROWNED

MontanaTech_150pxFRONTIER CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME – The MONTANA TECH OREDIGGERS and the CARROLL COLLEGE FIGHTING SAINTS battled for this tournament’s title.

The Orediggers were well and truly in charge by Halftime with their 47-30 lead. From there, Montana Tech coasted to a 93-77 victory. Asa Williams led the Orediggers to the championship with THIRTY-ONE points.    Continue reading

BALLADEER’S BLOG: COLLEGE BASKETBALL CONFERENCE TOURNAMENTS CONTINUE

southeastern university fireSUN CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME – The SOUTHEASTERN UNIVERSITY FIRE and the SAINT THOMAS UNIVERSITY (FL) BOBCATS (should be Tomcats) were the last two teams standing in this conference tournament. At Halftime the Fire were clinging to a 32-30 edge. From there Southeastern U. managed more separation from the Bobcats to win the game by a final score of 70-62. Reggie Mesidor’s 24 points led the Fire while his teammate Riley Minix logged a Double Double of 18 points and 13 rebounds. Continue reading

COLLEGE BASKETBALL POSTSEASON UNDERWAY: LAST NIGHT’S RESULTS

The divisions of college basketball covered by Balladeer’s Blog tipped off their postseason conference tournaments last night.

mayville sROUND ONE: GAME ONE – The MAYVILLE STATE COMETS took the court against the VALLEY CITY STATE VIKINGS. By Halftime the Comets held a 39-32 advantage over their opponents. After the break, Mayville State got more and more separation from the Vikings for an 82-68 victory. Jamison Kramer led the Comets with 18 points while teammate Darren Jones logged a Double Double of 10 points and 13 rebounds. Continue reading

BALLADEER’S BLOG’S COLLEGE BASKETBALL RESULTS FROM FEBRUARY 10th

madonna crusaders logoDOWN GOES NUMBER SEVEN – The MADONNA UNIVERSITY CRUSADERS welcomed the number 7 team in the nation – the LOURDES UNIVERSITY GRAY WOLVES. The Crusaders dominated on both sides of the ball in the opening Half and held a 40-26 lead at the midpoint of the game. After the break the Gray Wolves weren’t able to overcome that deficit as Madonna U. won out 72-65. Brendan Young led the Crusaders with his Double Double of 26 points and 10 rebounds. His teammate Isaac Anderson had his own Double Double with 15 points and 10 rebounds.

grace college lancers gONE AND TWO ROLL – The country’s number one team – the GRACE COLLEGE LANCERS – welcomed the GOSHEN COLLEGE MAPLE LEAFS and routed them 97-61. Cade Gibbs led with 16 points and fellow Lancer Ian Scott logged a Double Double of 15 points and 11 rebounds.   ###   And the 2nd ranked LANGSTON UNIVERSITY LIONS (should be Hugheses) mauled the visiting MIDAMERICA CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY EVANGELS 91-55. grace college lancers logoONE AND TWO ROLL – The number 1 team in the nation – the GRACE COLLEGE LANCERS – downed their hosts the GOSHEN COLLEGE MAPLE LEAFS by a Century Club score of 108-78.    ###    While elsewhere, the 2nd ranked LANGSTON UNIVERSITY LIONS (should be the Hugheses) obliterated the visiting SOUTHWESTERN CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY EAGLES by another Century Club score of 100-59.

lourdes univ gray wolvesOVERTIME THRILLS – The (14) LOURDES UNIVERSITY GRAY WOLVES used OT to defeat the MADONNA UNIVERSITY CRUSADERS 81-68   ###   Meanwhile, the UNIVERSITY OF JAMESTOWN JIMMIES survived a 109-108 visit to the MIDLAND U. WARRIORS   ###   And the (7) MONTANA TECH OREDIGGERS won 85-80 over the (15) ROCKY MOUNTAIN COLLEGE BATTLIN’ BEARS. Continue reading

BALLADEER’S BLOG’S COLLEGE BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP GAMES AND MORE: MARCH 19th

college of idaho coyotesNAIA CHAMPIONSHIP GAME – Fighting it out for the National Championship in the NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) were the COLLEGE OF IDAHO COYOTES and the INDIANA TECH WARRIORS (should be Hoplites).

The Coyotes fell into their usual pattern this season – they saw a comfortable Halftime lead of 45-26 get whittled down by an opponent’s rally. In the end, Indiana Tech fell just short against the College of Idaho, who held on for a 73-71 win. Jake O’Neil led the victors with a Double Double of 15 points and 12 rebounds. * THE COYOTES ARE NAIA NATIONAL CHAMPIONS *
