BALLADEER’S BLOG: NAIA COLLEGE BASKETBALL NATIONAL TOURNAMENT ROUND ONE

NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics)

Mid-America Christian University EvangelsWICHITA SITE – The 10 seeds – the MID-AMERICA CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY EVANGELS – faced the 7th seeded HASTINGS COLLEGE BRONCOS.

The opening Half was a defensive epic and ended with the Evangels up 28-27. After the break each team added another 40 points to their tally, with Mid-America Christian University edging the Broncos 68-67. Seth Hurd and Mikel Henderson led the Evangels with 16 points each.

university of tennessee southern firehawksMARION SITE – This game pitted the 7th seeded TENNESSEE SOUTHERN UNIVERSITY FIREHAWKS against the 10 seeds – the TOUGALOO COLLEGE BULLDOGS. 

The Firehawks held a comfortable 45-28 lead at Halftime. The Bulldogs mounted a fierce rally from there, but still fell short as Tennessee Southern U. triumphed by a final score of 91-84. Eighteen points from Mark Vance led the Firehawks. Continue reading

BALLADEER’S BLOG: COLLEGE BASKETBALL SEMIFINALS IN THE USCAA AND MORE

USCAA DIVISION ONE

lyon college scotsSEMIFINAL ONE – The 3 seeds – the LYON COLLEGE SCOTS – faced the 2nd ranked BRYANT & STRATTON COLLEGE AT BUFFALO BOBCATS.

The Bobcats held a 41-35 Halftime lead over their opponents. After the break the Scots mounted a comeback, outscoring BSC-Buffalo 42-29 to win the game 77-70. THIRTY-FOUR points from Mark Toney led Lyon College in scoring, while his teammate Nikola SaSaroga notched a Double Double of 19 points and 13 rebounds.  Continue reading

BALLADEER’S BLOG: USCAA COLLEGE BASKETBALL NATIONAL TOURNAMENT RESULTS

USCAA DIVISION ONE

newport news apprentice school buildersDAY ONE: GAME ONE – The top seeds – the NEWPORT NEWS APPRENTICE SCHOOL BUILDERS (Shipbuilders) – faced the 8th seeded UNIVERSITY OF MAINE AT FORT KENT BENGALS.

The Builders played suffocating defense against their opponents in the opening Half, leading them 45-28 at the break. From there, both NNAS and the Bengals added another 51 points to their respective tallies as the Builders won 96-79. Adrion Wall’s 26 points led NNAS.

lyon college scotsDAY ONE: GAME TWO – In this game the 3rd seeded LYON COLLEGE SCOTS took on the 6 seeds – the BRYANT & STRATTON COLLEGE AT SYRACUSE BOBCATS.

The Scots were on top by a comfortable score of 51-23 by Halftime. After the break Lyon College kept the Bobcats at arm’s length the rest of the way to their 86-57 triumph. Twenty points from Frank Toney led the Scots. Continue reading

BALLADEER’S BLOG: COLLEGE BASKETBALL’S NCCAA REGIONAL TOURNEYS

Teams looking to punch their tickets for the national tournament in the NCCAA (National Christian College Athletic Association).

MIDEAST REGION

welch college flamesFIRST SEMIFINAL – The WELCH COLLEGE FLAMES did battle with the BOYCE COLLEGE BULLDOGS.

This was a tale of two Halves, as the Flames were on top 55-36 at Halftime but from there the Bulldogs launched a furious rally. In the end, Welch College hung on by their fingertips for a 96-94 victory. Zaimes Hall put up 24 points to lead the Flames.

SECOND SEMIFINAL – In this game the CAMPBELLSVILLE UNIVERSITY AT HARRODSBURG PIONEERS faced the SIMMONS COLLEGE OF KENTUCKY FALCONS.

The Pioneers played smothering defense, keeping their opponents under 30 points in each Half. A 34-28 Halftime lead for CU-Harrodsburg ultimately became a 67-57 win over the Falcons. Lewis Richards led the Pioneers in scoring with his 22 points. Continue reading

BALLADEER’S BLOG: MORE NAIA CONFERENCE CHAMPIONS MOVE ON TO NATIONAL TOURNAMENT

lsu alexandria generals logoRED RIVER ATHLETIC CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME – The LSU-ALEXANDRIA GENERALS clashed with the UNIVERSITY OF THE SOUTHWEST MUSTANGS for the RRAC crown. The Generals compiled a comfortable 47-32 advantage by Halftime. After the break they managed even more separation from the Mustangs, ultimately defeating them handily 90-72. Kashie Natt led LSU-Alexandria in scoring with his 24 points. Continue reading

BALLADEER’S BLOG: MORE COLLEGE BASKETBALL CONFERENCE CHAMPIONS CROWNED

MontanaTech_150pxFRONTIER CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME – The MONTANA TECH OREDIGGERS and the CARROLL COLLEGE FIGHTING SAINTS battled for this tournament’s title.

The Orediggers were well and truly in charge by Halftime with their 47-30 lead. From there, Montana Tech coasted to a 93-77 victory. Asa Williams led the Orediggers to the championship with THIRTY-ONE points.    Continue reading

southeastern university fireSUN CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME – The SOUTHEASTERN UNIVERSITY FIRE and the SAINT THOMAS UNIVERSITY (FL) BOBCATS (should be Tomcats) were the last two teams standing in this conference tournament. At Halftime the Fire were clinging to a 32-30 edge. From there Southeastern U. managed more separation from the Bobcats to win the game by a final score of 70-62. Reggie Mesidor’s 24 points led the Fire while his teammate Riley Minix logged a Double Double of 18 points and 13 rebounds. Continue reading

By Halftime the Fighting Squirrels held a slight 30-28 edge. After the break Mary Baldwin University left their opponents further and further behind on their way to a 72-62 triumph. The divisions of college basketball covered by Balladeer’s Blog tipped off their postseason conference tournaments last night.

mayville sROUND ONE: GAME ONE – The MAYVILLE STATE COMETS took the court against the VALLEY CITY STATE VIKINGS. By Halftime the Comets held a 39-32 advantage over their opponents. After the break, Mayville State got more and more separation from the Vikings for an 82-68 victory. Jamison Kramer led the Comets with 18 points while teammate Darren Jones logged a Double Double of 10 points and 13 rebounds. Continue reading

newport news apprentice school buildersUSCAA OVER NCAA – The number 1 team in the USCAA (United States Collegiate Athletic Association) – the NEWPORT NEWS APPRENTICE SCHOOL BUILDERS (shipbuilders) – traveled to take on NCAA Division Two’s CHEYNEY UNIVERSITY WOLVES. By Halftime the Builders were on top 39-28. After the break they floored it, trouncing the Wolves by a final score of 98-56. Adrion Wall’s 20 points led the Apprentice School.

stanton fighting elksCENTURY CLUB – The STANTON UNIVERSITY FIGHTING ELKS topped fellow newbies the SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA LEADERSHIP UNIVERSITY RHINOS by a count of 103-60   ###   Meanwhile, the (4) BRYANT & STRATTON COLLEGE AT SYRACUSE BOBCATS triumphed 102-62 over the PAUL SMITH’S COLLEGE BOBCATS   ###   And the BRYANT & STRATTON COLLEGE AT ROCHESTER BOBCATS defeated the visiting MOHAWK VALLEY COLLEGE HAWKS 105-90.
