The Mariners put the Wildcats on Upset Alert by Halftime with a 39-31 lead, then held on for a 74-69 victory. Dominic Early led the Mariners with a Double-Double of 22 points and 11 rebounds. ### And the 8th seeded LOYOLA (New Orleans) WOLFPACK had no trouble with the 9th seeded UNIVERSITY OF MOBILE RAMS, defeating them 70-53. FRONTIER CONFERENCE – OPENING ROUND – The top two seeds in this conference get a Bye to the 2nd Round. Yesterday pitted the 6 seeds – the UNIVERSITY OF GREAT FALLS ARGONAUTS – against the 3rd seeded MONTANA-WESTERN BULLDOGS. The Argonauts shocked the nation, toppling the Bulldogs in a 67-64 game for the ages! ### And the other game from the Frontier Conference last night presented the 4th seeded ROCKY MOUNTAIN COLLEGE BATTLIN’ BEARS taking on the 5th seeded MONTANA STATE- NORTHERN LIGHTS. The Battlin’ Bears advanced with a 78-66 win.
CALIFORNIA PACIFIC CONFERENCE – CHAMPIONSHIP GAME – The top seeded CAL MARITIME ACADEMY KEELHAULERS continued their dynasty, winning another conference title. This time the Keelhaulers (how can you not like that name) defeated the LA SIERRA COLLEGE GOLDEN EAGLES in Overtime by a score of 90-86. * THE KEELHAULERS ARE CAL PAC TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONS *
ASSOCIATION OF INDEPENDENT INSTITUTIONS – CHAMPIONSHIP GAME – The top seeded MOUNT MERCY UNIVERSITY MUSTANGS squared off against the 3 seeds – the YORK (NE) COLLEGE PANTHERS. The Mustangs defeated the Panthers by a final score of 74-61. Along the way Mount Mercy also took down Central Christian College of Kansas and Johnson & Wales (CO). * THE MUSTANGS ARE CHAMPIONS OF THE A.I.I. TOURNAMENT *
CALIFORNIA PACIFIC CONFERENCE – The CAL-MARITIME ACADEMY KEELHAULERS were once again the top seeds in the Cal-Pac Tournament and in yesterday’s semi-finals they battled the 4 seeds – the UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA AT MERCED GOLDEN BOBCATS. The Keelhaulers moved on to the title game with a 65-55 win. ### And the 2nd seeded LA SIERRA UNIVERSITY GOLDEN EAGLES wound up bouncing the 3rd seeded SIMPSON UNIVERSITY RED HAWKS by a tight final score of 87-81.
ASSOCIATION OF INDEPENDENT INSTITUTIONS – We start off with a 7 seed over 2 seed upset! The WASHINGTON ADVENTIST UNIVERSITY SHOCK toppled the ROCHESTER COLLEGE WARRIORS in a 61-60 Instant Classic! ### The 5th seeded CENTRAL CHRISTIAN COLLEGE TIGERS added an upset of their own, bringing down the 4 seeds – the COLLEGE OF THE OZARKS BOBCATS 71-70. ### The surprises kept coming as the top seeded MOUNT MERCY UNIVERSITY MUSTANGS needed Overtime to dispense with the 8th seeded JOHNSON & WALES (CO) WILDCATS. 94-90 was the final score. ### And the (3) YORK (NE) PANTHERS downed the (6) NORTHERN NEW MEXICO EAGLES 80-67.
APPALACHIAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE – The 5 seeds – the BLUEFIELD COLLEGE RAMBLING RAMS – upset the 4th seeded MILLIGAN UNIVERSITY BUFFALOES, defeating them by a final tally of 68-58. ### The top seeded TENNESSEE WESLEYAN COLLEGE BULLDOGS dispatched the 8th seeded TRUETT-MCCONNELL COLLEGE BEARS 93-77 ### And in the 2 spot the UNION (KY) BULLDOGS eliminated the 10th seeded MONTREAT COLLEGE CAVALIERS by a score of 87-68.
CHICAGOLAND COLLEGIATE ATHLETIC CONFERENCE – The 3rd seeded SAINT XAVIER UNIVERSITY COUGARS led the 6 seeds – the TRINITY INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY TROJANS – by a score of 49-34 at Halftime. After the break the Cougars poured it on for an 88-67 win led by Larry Motuzis with THIRTY-NINE points. ### And the top seeds – the UNIVERSITY OF SAINT FRANCIS (IL) FIGHTING SAINTS took on the 8th seeded SAINT AMBROSE UNIVERSITY FIGHTING BEES. At the midpoint the Fighting Saints clung to a 38-32 advantage but got separation in the 2nd Half for an 83-62 victory. Landus Anderson led USF with 28 points.
DISTRICT 303: CHAMPIONSHIP GAME – This title clash pitted the storied EASTFIELD COLLEGE HARVESTERS against the NORTH LAKE COLLEGE LAKERS. The Harvesters were on fire and by Halftime they led the Lakers by a score of 46-33.
POINTS A-PLENTY – The BLUEFIELD STATE BIG BLUES hosted the SALEM INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY TIGERS yesterday in the most offense-oriented game of the day. By Halftime the Big Blues led the Tigers 75-56, which could be a final score in most games. In the end Bluefield State won by a score of 129-110 with FIFTY-SIX of those points coming from Mark Durgan.
ALOHA MEANS ROUNDBALL – The CHAMINADE UNIVERSITY SILVERSWORDS took the court against the visiting BYU-HAWAII SEASIDERS and were far from gracious hosts. The Silverswords were on top of the Seasiders 56-39 at the break enroute to a 115-86 blowout victory. Kuany Kuany (no error) led Chaminade University in scoring by tossing in 24 of his team’s points.
