HEADLINES

DOWN GOES NUMBER TWO – In NCAA Division Three the 6th ranked UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN AT WHITEWATER WARHAWKS played host to the number 2 UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN AT RIVER FALLS FALCONS. The Warhawks held a 17-16 edge at Halftime and following a scoreless 3rd Quarter they carried through on the Upset with a 24-16 win.

KNOCKING OFF NUMBER EIGHT – Staying in Division Three for a moment, the number 18 WASHINGTON (MO) BEARS welcomed the 8th ranked JOHN CARROLL UNIVERSITY BLUE STREAKS. A 7-7 1st Quarter tie became a 21-17 Bears advantage at the Half. After the break, Washington U. outscored the Blue Streaks 14-8 to win the game 35-25.

CHARGING INTO PAINESVILLE – Up in NCAA Division Two, the storied HILLSDALE COLLEGE CHARGERS visited the LAKE ERIE COLLEGE STORM. Though the Storm led 6-2 in the opening Quarter, Hillsdale College went up 15-9 by the midpoint. Neither team scored in the 3rd Quarter following which the 4th saw the Chargers triumph 29-9.

INDEPENDENT GAME OF THE WEEK – This game pitted the WILLIAMSON COLLEGE OF THE TRADES MECHANICS against their guests, the OHIO VALLEY COMMUNITY CHRISTIAN COLLEGE BULLDOGS. A scoreless 1st Quarter morphed into a 6-0 Bulldogs Halftime lead. The 3rd Quarter ended with OVCCC on top 14-0 before the Mechanics roared from behind to win 16-14 in the 4th. 

SEVENTY-NINE – Up in the NAIA, the MADONNA UNIVERSITY CRUSADERS traveled to take on the ST. MARY-OF-THE-WOODS COLLEGE POMEROYS. The Crusaders seized a 21-6 opening Quarter lead and never looked back. By the time all the dust settled, Madonna University had annihilated the Pomeroys to the tune of SEVENTY-NINE to TWENTY.

NAIA VS NCAA DIV THREE

NAIA OVER NCAA D3 – The LOUISIANA CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY WILDCATS took the field against the visiting EAST TEXAS BAPTIST UNIVERSITY TIGERS. A 14-14 tie in the 1st Quarter became a 30-14 Wildcats advantage at the Half. The Tigers managed to cut the margin a tiny bit in the 2nd Half but still got a 50-36 defeat at LCU’s hands.

NCAA D3 OVER NAIA – In this game the HOWARD PAYNE UNIVERSITY YELLOW JACKETS hosted the NELSON UNIVERSITY LIONS. Howard Payne U. dominated on both sides of the ball, leading the Lions 23-10 at the midpoint and ultimately clobbering them 44-16 by the end of the 4th Quarter.

*** A tie this week means the NAIA now leads the season 3-1-1.

UNDER THE RADAR CLASSICS – The ST. AMBROSE UNIVERSITY FIGHTING BEES survived a 41-38 visit from the PERU STATE BOBCATS   ###   Meanwhile, the MIDAMERICA NAZARENE UNIVERSITY PIONEERS defeated the CENTRAL METHODIST UNIVERSITY EAGLES 29-24   ###   And the SOUTHERN OREGON UNIVERSITY RAIDERS (should be Seagulls) won 28-27 at the UNIVERSITY OF MONTANA-WESTERN BULLDOGS. 

HAPPY HOMECOMING – The KENTUCKY CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY KNIGHTS welcomed the UNIVERSITY OF RIO GRANDE (OH) RED STORM for Homecoming. Though the Red Storm led 10-7 at Halftime, KCU went on top 25-10 in the 3rd Quarter. The 4th saw the Knights hold on for a 25-17 victory.

COMFORTABLE MARGINS – The DICKINSON STATE BLUE HAWKS took down their guests – the MAYVILLE STATE COMETS – by a final tally of 28-6   ###   The OTTAWA UNIVERSITY (AZ) SPIRIT shut out the LANGSTON UNIVERSITY LIONS 27-0   ###   And the TABOR COLLEGE BLUEJAYS won 41-21 at the UNIVERSITY OF ST. MARY SPIRES. 

NCAA DIVISION TWO

UPSETS IN THE RANKINGS – Yesterday the MIDWESTERN STATE MUSTANGS managed a 44-32 win over the visiting number 20 WESTERN OREGON UNIVERSITY WOLVES    ###    And the EDWARD WATERS UNIVERSITY TIGERS handed a 61-42 defeat to the 24th ranked KENTUCKY STATE THOROBREDS.

ALL NAME GAMES – The SOUTHERN NAZARENE UNIVERSITY CRIMSON STORM survived a 40-34 visit from the UNIVERSITY OF ARKANSAS AT MONTICELLO BOLL WEEVILS   ###   Elsewhere, the SOUTHEASTERN OKLAHOMA STATE SAVAGE STORM downed the ARKANSAS TECH WONDERBOYS 35-10   ###   And the JOHNSON C. SMITH UNIVERSITY GOLDEN BULLS won 51-0 at the BLUEFIELD STATE BIG BLUES.

WORKING OVERTIME – The PITTSBURG (KS) STATE GORILLAS were on the road against the UNIVERSITY OF NEBRASKA AT KEARNEY LOPERS. The Lopers were out in front of Pittsburg State 24-3 at the Half. The Gorillas forced OT with a 27-27 tie to end the 4th Quarter. In the extra session Pitt State won 34-27.  

NCAA DIVISION THREE

OTHER UPSETS IN THE RANKINGS – The only other Upset in the D3 rankings yesterday came in the game between the BALDWIN WALLACE UNIVERSITY YELLOW JACKETS and the home standing number 21 HEIDELBERG UNIVERSITY STUDENT PRINCES. The Yellow Jackets piled up the points to lead Heidelberg 27-7 by Halftime. After the break, the Student Princes tried rallying but fell far short in this 41-26 loss.

COOL NAME BOWLS – The CLAREMONT-MUDD-SCRIPPS COLLEGE STAGS edged the visiting CAL LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY KINGSMEN 24-22   ###   Next, the POMONA-PITZER COLLEGE SAGEHENS smacked down the UNIVERSITY OF LA VERNE LEOPARDS 24-6   ###   And the MARYVILLE (TN) FIGHTING SCOTS won 27-21 in Overtime at the CENTRE COLLEGE COLONELS.

PERFECT GENTLEMEN – This game saw the CENTENARY COLLEGE GENTLEMEN take it on the road against the AUSTIN COLLEGE KANGAROOS. The Gentlemen grabbed a quick 17-7 1st Quarter lead, but Austin College cut that to 17-13 by the Half. Centenary College shut out the Kangaroos from there to win out 37-13.

NSAC

SCORCHED – In this game the VIRGINIA UNIVERSITY OF LYNCHBURG DRAGONS welcomed the SOUTH CAROLINA CENTRAL CHRISTIAN COLLEGE GLADIATORS. The Dragons had their way with SCCC on both sides of the ball and from start to finish. The game ended with VUL eradicating the Gladiators 51-6.

ROAD RUCKUS – The TEXAS COLLEGE STEERS paid a call on the WESTGATE CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY GOLD RAVENS. Come Halftime the Steers were up on Westgate Christian 28-21. The 3rd Quarter ended with the Gold Ravens within 31-28, but Texas College held on in the 4th 38-35.

INSTANT CLASSICS – The LIGHTHOUSE CHRISTIAN COLLEGE MAKOS (as in the Sharks) got themselves a 41-35 victory over the visiting TRINITY COLLEGE OF FLORIDA TIGERS    ###    And the CLAYTON STATE LAKERS continued rolling with their 23-20 win at the ANDREW COLLEGE FIGHTING TIGERS.

NJCAA

SIX AND O – The nation’s undefeated number 1 team – the HUTCHINSON COLLEGE BLUE DRAGONS – traveled to play the HIGHLAND COLLEGE SCOTTIES. The Blue Dragons pretty much made Highland College their prison brides in this game. Hutchinson was pushing around the Scotties all over the field, ultimately triumphing 58-20.

ROAD WARRIORS – The MESABI RANGE COLLEGE NORSE won a 40-14 beatdown at the ROCHESTER TECHNICAL COLLEGE YELLOW JACKETS    ###    And the DODGE CITY COLLEGE CONQUISTADORS stunned the NORTHEASTERN OKLAHOMA A&M GOLDEN NORSEMEN by a score of 28-21.

HAPPY HOMESTANDS – This first game pitted the SUSSEX COUNTY COLLEGE SKYLANDERS against the SALEM (NJ) COLLEGE MIGHTY OAKS with the Skylanders winning out 23-8    ###    And out in Texas the BLINN COLLEGE BUCCANEERS won a tight 20-14 affair over the SNOW COLLEGE BADGERS.

CCCAA

SHUTOUT – The ANTELOPE VALLEY COLLEGE MARAUDERS found themselves on the road against the COMPTON COLLEGE TARTARS. The Marauders parlayed their 14-0 opening Quarter advantage into a 34-0 lead by Halftime. That wound up being the final tally as well.

ABSOLUTE BLOWOUTS – The COLLEGE OF THE DESERT ROADRUNNERS welcomed the LOS ANGELES VALLEY COLLEGE MONARCHS for Homecoming and sent them away reeling from a 58-6 massacre    ###    And the FEATHER RIVER COLLEGE GOLDEN EAGLES dominated 69-6 at the CABRILLO COLLEGE SEAHAWKS. 

SHOCK OF THE DAY – The GROSSMONT COLLEGE GRIFFINS took the field against the visiting SANTA MONICA COLLEGE CORSAIRS yesterday. At the Half the Griffins were clinging to a 16-13 edge over SMC. From there Grossmont College managed more separation from the Corsairs as they won the game 38-26.
