FOOL KILLER PART SEVENTY-SEVEN: SEPTEMBER 1915

PART 77 – As always, it’s fascinating to read the over 100-year-old opinions of James Larkin Pearson (and by extension his Fool Killer), including the opinions that one doesn’t agree with. Here are the Fool Killer’s targets in September 1915. There was no August issue that year.

*** Former President Theodore Roosevelt for his repeated calls to current President Woodrow Wilson that America should enter the ongoing World War.

*** Uber-wealthy J.P. Morgan for pompously proclaiming that the war would be over within a year. (As we all know, it actually lasted until November 11th, 1918.)

*** The Chicago Evening Post for supporting U.S. entry to the war.

*** Thomas Edison, but only with a good-natured joke about his recent remark “I owe everything to my wife.” He said she should take Thomas for everything he was worth.

*** The Fool Killer mentioned the Battle of Kara Killisse aka the Battle of Malazgirt in Turkey just to play on words by saying “Killisse” should be pronounced “Kill, I say!”

*** America’s buzzards, whom he jokingly said endorsed Theodore Roosevelt’s call for the U.S. to enter the war so they could eat as plentifully as their European cousins.

*** The latest snake-oil type of alleged “cure” for hayfever.

SOME OF THE FOOL KILLER’S PITHIER REMARKS THIS TIME AROUND:

“Part of the world sane is better than a whole world crazy.”

“Warsaw saw war.” (A reference to the recent fighting near Warsaw.)

“If there is anything nastier than politics, it is more politics.”

“When you hear some silk-hatted millionaire shooting off his lip about ‘fighting to the last man’, you can rest assured that he means to BE the last man.”
