NAIA OVER NCAA DIVISION TWO – And another NAIA football team toppled a team from a higher division. The LANGSTON UNIVERSITY LIONS visited D2’s LINCOLN (MO) BLUE TIGERS yesterday and saw their 12-7 1st Quarter lead become a 14-12 Blue Tigers edge come Halftime. Neither team scored in the 3rd Quarter, but Langston U. consummated the Upset 19-14 in the 4th.

NUMBER THREE TAKES A FALL – Down in NCAA Division 3 the RANDOLPH-MACON COLLEGE YELLOW JACKETS welcomed the number 3 team in the nation – the JOHNS HOPKINS UNIVERSITY BLUE JAYS. The Blue Jays were on top 14-7 at the Half, but RMC went up 21-14 in the 3rd Quarter. In the 4th, the Yellow Jackets prevailed 28-21.

HILLSDALE HOME STAND – Back up in NCAA Division Two, the HILLSDALE COLLEGE CHARGERS took the field against their guests the WAYNE STATE WARRIORS. The Chargers converted their 14-0 opening Quarter advantage into a 28-0 lead at the midpoint. Hillsdale College kept up the pace from there, ultimately trouncing the Warriors 49-0.

KNOCKING OFF NUMBER ONE – Way down in the CCCAA, the 8th ranked DIABLO VALLEY COLLEGE VIKINGS (should be the Green Devils) traveled to face the number 1 MODESTO COLLEGE PIRATES. DVC put the Pirates on Upset Alert with a 21-7 Halftime advantage, then carried through by defeating them 31-24.

NAIA VS NCAA DIVISION THREE

NAIA OVER D3 – The MAYVILLE STATE COMETS clobbered the visiting D3 MINNESOTA-MORRIS COUGARS 37-13   ###   The MADONNA UNIVERSITY CRUSADERS won 27-18 at the BLUFFTON UNIVERSITY BEAVERS   ###   Elsewhere, the OKLAHOMA PANHANDLE STATE AGGIES defeated the SCHREINER UNIVERSITY MOUNTAINEERS 47-29   ###   The DAKOTA STATE TROJANS shut out the NEBRASKA WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY PRAIRIE WOLVES 52-0   ###   And the EASTERN OREGON UNIVERSITY MOUNTAINEERS won 51-17 at the WHITWORTH UNIVERSITY PIRATES. 

NCAA D3 OVER NAIA – The only D3 team to beat an NAIA team yesterday came in the clash between the UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN AT WHITEWATER WARHAWKS and their guests the ST. XAVIER UNIVERSITY COUGARS. By Halftime the Warhawks led 21-7. After the break UW-Whitewater outscored the Cougars 28-7 in a 49-14 blowout.

HOW SWEDE IT IS! – The BETHANY COLLEGE SWEDES welcomed the UNIVERSITY OF ST. MARY SPIRES for First Responders Night. Halfway through the game, the Spires were up 16-12. In the 3rd Quarter the Swedes went on top 19-16 before winning out in the 4th by a final count of 32-31. 

UNDER THE RADAR CLASSICS – The MIDAMERICA NAZARENE UNIVERSITY PIONEERS defeated the visiting CULVER-STOCKTON COLLEGE WILDCATS 38-31   ###   Meanwhile, the MISSOURI BAPTIST UNIVERSITY SPARTANS downed the PERU STATE BOBCATS 21-14   ###   And the CENTRAL METHODIST UNIVERSITY EAGLES survived a 44-41 visit from the GRACELAND UNIVERSITY YELLOW JACKETS.

WORKIN’ OVERTIME – Four Quarters weren’t enough for the KANSAS WESLEYAN COLLEGE COYOTES and their hosts the AVILA UNIVERSITY EAGLES (formerly the Avalanche). Though the Coyotes were on top 21-7 at Halftime, Avila University forced Overtime with a 28-28 tie to end Regulation. In the extra session Kansas Wesleyan pulled out a 35-28 victory.

NCAA DIVISION TWO

UPSETS IN THE RANKINGS – The LENOIR-RHYNE UNIVERSITY BEARS won 21-14 at the nation’s number 15 NEWBERRY COLLEGE WOLVES    ###    And the DAVENPORT UNIVERSITY PANTHERS entertained the 18th ranked UNIVERSITY OF INDIANAPOLIS GREYHOUNDS and toppled them by a score of 19-14.

PUTTING IN OVERTIME – In this game the FORT LEWIS COLLEGE SKYHAWKS took the field against the visiting NEW MEXICO HIGHLANDS UNIVERSITY COWBOYS. The Skyhawks led 10-7 in the 1st Quarter but trailed 21-18 at Halftime. The 4th Quarter ended in a 28-28 tie and in Overtime Fort Lewis College managed a 31-28 triumph.

ALL NAME GAMES – The SOUTHERN ARKANSAS UNIVERSITY MULERIDERS defeated the visiting SOUTHERN NAZARENE UNIVERSITY CRIMSON STORM 27-21   ###   Meanwhile, the LIVINGSTONE COLLEGE BLUE BEARS out-blued the home standing BLUEFIELD STATE BIG BLUES 44-30   ###   And the UNIVERSITY OF CENTRAL MISSOURI MULES crushed the DELTA STATE STATESMEN 59-10. 

NCAA DIVISION THREE

OTHER UPSETS IN THE RANKINGS – The number 14 team in the nation – the HARDIN-SIMMONS UNIVERSITY COWBOYS – took it on the road against the 12th-ranked UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN AT LACROSSE EAGLES and downed them 28-20    ###    And the WASHINGTON (MO) UNIVERSITY BEARS knocked off the visiting number 15 DEPAUW UNIVERSITY TIGERS.

BORDER CLASH – This U.S. vs Mexico gridiron clash pitted the WHITTIER COLLEGE POETS against Mexico’s visiting CETYS UNIVERSIDAD ZORROS (Foxes). The pen truly proved mightier than the Fox as the Poets dominated on both sides of the ball. Whittier College blew out Cetys Universidad 56-20.

INSTANT CLASSICS – The NORWICH UNIVERSITY CADETS defeated the CASTLETON STATE SPARTANS 17-10   ###   Elsewhere, the WORCESTER POLYTECHNIC INSTITUTE ENGINEERS edged their guests the UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND NOR’EASTERS 22-21   ###   And the CARNEGIE MELLON UNIVERSITY TARTANS won 38-35 at the CATHOLIC UNIVERSITY CARDINALS.

NC WESLEYAN EXPLODES – The NORTH CAROLINA WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY BISHOPS played host to the NEWPORT NEWS APPRENTICE SCHOOL BUILDERS (Shipbuilders). The Bishops led the Apprentice School 14-0, 28-0 and 42-0 in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Quarters respectively. That wound up as the final score, too, in this Builders loss.

UNDER THE RADAR CLASSIC – In this game the MISSISSIPPI COMMUNITY CHRISTIAN COLLEGE CYCLONES found themselves on the road against the LIGHTHOUSE CHRISTIAN COLLEGE MAKOS (as in the sharks). These two teams went virtually blow for blow and score for score the entire game before the Cyclones emerged with a 20-18 victory.   

MOMENTUM KILLER – The GORDON STATE HIGHLANDERS took on the visiting JACKSONVILLE ACADEMY MOCS (as in Moccasin snakes). The Highlanders managed to step up and put an end to Jacksonville Academy’s winning streak by downing them 14-7.

NJCAA

NUMBERS ONE AND TWO ROLL – The number 1 team in the country – the IOWA WESTERN COLLEGE REIVERS shut out their guests the DODGE CITY COLLEGE CONQUISTADORS by a score of 31-0    ###    And the 2nd ranked HUTCHINSON COLLEGE BLUE DRAGONS utterly eviscerated the visiting GARDEN CITY COLLEGE BRONCBUSTERS to the tune of SEVENTY to NOTHING.

ROAD RAGE – The brand-new intercollegiate football program the SALEM (NJ) COLLEGE MIGHTY OAKS lost to the visiting NASSAU COLLEGE LIONS 31-6    ###    And the COLLEGE OF DUPAGE CHAPARRALS took their anger over last weekend’s unexpected loss on the home standing HOCKING COLLEGE HAWKS by a final tally of 44-12.

HAPPY HOME STAND – In this game the CENTRAL GEORGIA TECHNICAL COLLEGE TITANS took the field against the visiting ACES ELITE ACADEMY GOATS. There may have been a little hubris in that team name for AEA because the Titans proceeded to whup them by a score of 43-8.   

CCCAA

A DOUBLE-SHOT OF THAT OT LOVE – This game pitted the (21) COLLEGE OF THE REDWOODS CORSAIRS against their hosts the SACRAMENTO CITY COLLEGE PANTHERS. A 17-14 Halftime edge for the Panthers became a 24-24 tie to end the 4th Quarter. The 1st Overtime ended in a 31-31 deadlock and the 2nd OT in a 37-34 Corsairs victory.

ALL NAME GAMES – The MONTEREY PENINSULA COLLEGE LOBOS won 19-16 at the SANTA ROSA COLLEGE BEAR CUBS   ###   Next, the ANTELOPE VALLEY COLLEGE MARAUDERS triumphed over the home standing GROSSMONT COLLEGE GRIFFINS 28-27   ###   And the PASADENA CITY COLLEGE LANCERS won 26-17 at the PALOMAR COLLEGE COMETS.

DEFENSIVE PERFECTION – The CHABOT COLLEGE GLADIATORS clashed with the visiting GAVILAN COLLEGE RAMS (should be Sparrow Hawks). The Gladiators seized a quick 21-0 lead in the opening Quarter and never looked back from there. When the dust settled, Chabot College had logged a 42-0 shutout win.
