WILLIS H. CARRIER: THE SUMMER OF 2026’s GREATEST AMERICAN

America’s 250th birthday is mere days away and as we honor men and women from long, long ago the current heat wave should remind us that Willis H. Carrier, the inventor of modern air conditioning, is truly the lion of the hour.

In 1902 Carrier invented the first electrical air conditioning unit. Thirteen years later, he founded Carrier Corporation which specialized in heating, ventilation and air conditioning, the HVAC we all take for granted.

Willis was born November 26th, 1876 and entered Cornell University in 1897. He graduated in 1901 and the next year came out with his signature invention. Carrier worked for the Buffalo Forge Company before going into business for himself in 1915.

So, here’s to the REAL King of Cool, Willis Haviland Carrier! And here’s to his fortitude in ignoring all the skeptics who said “Whatchoo talkin’ ’bout, Willis?”

I have never heard of the inventor Willis H. Carrier before but as always found your post interesting to read.

  4. This is so interesting! Willis H. Carrier is a great inventor to pay homage to; we’d be scuppered (and very hot and uncomfortable) without him!
