attack-of-the-beast-creaturesATTACK OF THE BEAST CREATURES (1983)- Category: A neglected bad movie classic that deserves a Plan 9-sized cult following.

Some passengers from a Transatlantic liner get shipwrecked and marooned on an uncharted island filled with acidic ponds and streams plus a whole tribe of the titular creatures who all look even sillier than the doll that attacked Karen Black in Trilogy of Terror.

And it’s the 1920s for no reason whatsoever! Nothing in the story has anything to do with the time period and since the outside world is never even glimpsed it could be set in the 1980′s or even the post-apocalyptic future for all the difference it would make!

The expected cast-thinning takes place in that wonderful horror film/disaster movie way with our cast wearing their pointless 1920′s-era clothing. (An expense that could have been avoided since the time period has no impact on the story.)

The scenes where our main characters are attacked by the Beast Creatures will have you laughing til your eyes fill with tears. There are no special effects in this low-budget bomb so the cast members have to basically hold the dolls to their bodies and pretend they’re fighting with them, like the cat-attack scenes in The Corpse Grinders!

The shots of the creatures “running” are even more hilarious and ruin all the film’s feeble attempts at tension. The ending is so abrupt it just seems cosmically (and comically) fitting. Don’t look for anything more than a surface resolution. Originally posted in September 2011.

    Fantastic post.

  3. A great find! This sounds ripe for a laugh – I’ll check it out!

  4. Boy — attack of the redundant titles.

  5. Forgive me for being off-topic (even for my own post today), but — considering who is addressing Congress today — where are the No Kings protesters?

  6. This is too funny. The minute I saw the photo, I was thinking of the Trilogy of Terror! Sounds like an entertaining movie. Thanks!

  7. I’m not sure I could cope with an entire movie full of the creepy little doll from Trilogy of Terror running around, no matter how absurd it was …
