HEADLINES

NUMBER FIVE TOPPLED – In NCAA Division Two, the 8th ranked COLORADO STATE AT PUEBLO THUNDERWOLVES visited the number 5 team in the nation – the WESTERN COLORADO UNIVERSITY MOUNTAINEERS. By Halftime WCU was in front 21-7, but the Thunderwolves shut them out from there. It was 21-21 in the 3rd Quarter with CSU-Pueblo winning 24-21 in the 4th.

DOWN GOES NUMBER EIGHT – Down in NCAA Division Three, the number 9 UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN AT RIVER FALLS FALCONS played host to the 8th ranked UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN AT WHITEWATER WARHAWKS. UW-River Falls made a definite statement, leading the Warhawks 31-7 at the Half before embarrassing them by a final score of 52-14

CENTURY CLUB IN FOOTBALL? – My Century Club notes usually apply to college basketball teams that score 100 or more points in Regulation. In a very, very rare case in football, the NJCAA’s SNOW COLLEGE BADGERS welcomed the CALIFORNIA COMMUNITY CHRISTIAN COLLEGE SAINTS and utterly eviscerated them ONE HUNDRED ONE to SIX!

MARATHON GAME OF THE WEEK – This week that distinction goes to the clash between D2’s WEST CHESTER UNIVERSITY GOLDEN RAMS and their guests the BLOOMSBURG UNIVERSITY HUSKIES. A 14-14 Halftime tie became a 31-31 deadlock to end the 4th Quarter. The 1st OT ended at 38-38, the 2nd at 44-44, but in the 3rd Overtime the Golden Rams won by a Safety 46-44.

TRAVELING CHARGERS – Staying in D2 for the moment, the storied HILLSDALE COLLEGE CHARGERS took it on the road against the THOMAS MORE UNIVERSITY SAINTS. The Chargers were on top 10-3 in the opening Quarter and 24-10 at the midpoint. The defenses gave up no further points from there as Hillsdale triumphed by that same tally of 24-10.

CLASH IN KANSAS – In this game the BETHEL (KS) THRESHERS took the field against the visiting AVILA UNIVERSITY EAGLES (formerly the Avalanche). The Threshers vented some of their frustration over a disappointing season on Avila U, leading them 14-0, 21-3 and 28-10 in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Quarters, respectively. In the 4th, Bethel College won 35-25.

NCAA DIVISION TWO

OTHER UPSETS IN THE RANKINGS – First, the VALDOSTA STATE BLAZERS welcomed the number 23 UNIVERSITY OF WEST ALABAMA TIGERS and defeated them by a score of 45-35    ###    And then the CALIFORNIA (PA) UNIVERSITY VULCANS played host to the 25th ranked FROSTBURG STATE BOBCATS, downing them 31-26.

ONE TEAM WAS PLAYING BASKETBALL – The NORTHEASTERN STATE UNIVERSITY RIVERHAWKS were less than gracious hosts to the LINCOLN (CA) UNIVERSITY OAKLANDERS. The Riverhawks grabbed a quick 27-0 advantage in the opening Quarter and never looked back from there. In the end, Northeastern State shut out the Oaklanders SIXTY-EIGHT to NOTHING.

ALL NAME GAMES – The ARKANSAS TECH WONDERBOYS took on the visiting SOUTHERN NAZARENE UNIVERSITY CRIMSON STORM and mauled them 42-17   ###   Next, the MISSOURI-WESTERN STATE GRIFFONS triumphed 27-24 over the WASHBURN UNIVERSITY ICHABODS   ###   And the HENDERSON STATE REDDIES won 21-20 at the SOUTHEASTERN OKLAHOMA STATE SAVAGE STORM.

BEAR NECESSITIES – In an Ursine Armageddon, as the verbose Howard Cosell might have called it, the LIVINGSTONE COLLEGE BLUE BEARS were at home against the SHAW UNIVERSITY BEARS. Shaw’s only lead came at 6-2 in the 1st Quarter. The Blue Bears took over from there, leading 23-6 at Halftime and 30-13 in the 3rd Quarter before winning the game 43-13 in the 4th.

COOL-NAME BOWLS – The TRINITY (CT) BANTAMS defeated the visiting AMHERST COLLEGE MAMMOTHS 14-7   ###   Elsewhere, the PACIFIC UNIVERSITY BOXERS won 52-35 at the PUGET SOUND UNIVERSITY LOGGERS   ###   And the ROANOKE COLLEGE MAROONS survived a 21-20 visit from the GUILFORD COLLEGE QUAKERS.

ROWAN ON THE ROAD – Saturday saw the ROWAN UNIVERSITY PROFS on the road against THE COLLEGE OF NEW JERSEY LIONS. A 7-7 opening Quarter tie turned into a 24-7 Profs advantage at the midpoint. After the break, the Lions outscored Rowan University 23-20, but the Profs still triumphed 44-30.

DOUBLING UP ON THE COMPETITION – The WESTGATE CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY GOLD RAVENS paid a call on the GORDON STATE HIGHLANDERS. SHOCK OF THE DAY – It wasn’t just that the CLAYTON STATE LAKERS upset the visiting NEWPORT NEWS APPRENTICE SCHOOL BUILDERS, it was the way they did it! The Lakers parlayed a 20-7 opening Quarter advantage into 28-7 at the Half. After the break, Clayton State continued outclassing the Apprentice School, clobbering them 42-13.

DETROIT COMES TO TOWN – In this game the COMMUNITY CHRISTIAN COLLEGE (Detroit) LIONS traveled to face the COMMUNITY CHRISTIAN COLLEGE (Ohio Valley) CRUSADERS. This was what sportscasters like to call “old-school, smash-mouth football” as defense was the name of the game in a 14-7 victory for the Lions.

HAPPY HOME STANDS – The MONROE UNIVERSITY MUSTANGS hammered the LACKAWANNA COLLEGE FALCONS by a score of 34-7   ###   Meanwhile, the COFFEYVILLE COLLEGE RED RAVENS gave a 52-7 spanking to the ELLSWORTH COLLEGE PANTHERS   ###   And the ANDREW COLLEGE FIGHTING TIGERS routed the TENNESSEE VALLEY COMMUNITY CHRISTIAN COLLEGE DEFENDERS 47-14.

Great posts as always. I don’t normally take any interest in college football but as always found your post to be extremely engaging.

  2. It speaks plainly but resonates deeply
