BALLADEER’S BLOG’S COLLEGE FOOTBALL RESULTS FROM SEPTEMBER THIRTEENTH

HEADLINES

KNOCKING OFF NUMBER THREE – In NCAA Division Two the UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA AT DULUTH BULLDOGS took the field against the visiting number 3 team in the country – the MINNESOTA STATE MAVERICKS. The Mavericks were up 7-3 at the midpoint but UMD rallied from there to topple Minnesota State 17-14.

DOWN GOES NUMBER FIVE – In this game D2’s number 16 PITTSBURG (KS) STATE GORILLAS played their guests, the 5th ranked GRAND VALLEY STATE LAKERS. A scoreless 1st Quarter was followed by a 10-0 Gorillas advantage by the break. The Lakers made it a 10-7 game to end the 3rd Quarter, but Pittsburg State held on in the 4th for a 17-14 win.

ANOTHER NUMBER FIVE IS TOPPLED – Over in the NAIA, the 11th ranked MONTANA TECH OREDIGGERS faced the visiting number 5 team – the UNIVERSITY OF MONTANA-WESTERN BULLDOGS. The Orediggers were in control 27-9 at the Half, then kept UMW at arm’s length to win the game 34-23.

NUMBER SEVEN TAKES A FALL – The NAIA’s MOUNT MARTY UNIVERSITY LANCERS welcomed the 7th ranked team in the nation – the NORTHWESTERN (IA) COLLEGE RED RAIDERS. The Lancers put Northwestern College on Upset Alert at Halftime with their 10-0 lead, then went on to consummate the victory by a score of 24-14.

AND NUMBER EIGHT CAME TUMBLING AFTER – Staying in the NAIA for the moment, the LINDSEY WILSON COLLEGE BLUE RAIDERS took on the visiting number 8 ST. THOMAS UNIVERSITY BOBCATS (should be Tomcats). The Blue Raiders were on top 31-3 by the Half, then made their case to be ranked next week by crushing STU 52-24.

MARATHON GAME OF THE WEEK – This week’s gridiron clash with this distinction was the game between the MINNESOTA STATE TECHNICAL COLLEGE SPARTANS and the home standing CENTRAL LAKES COLLEGE AT BRAINERD RAIDERS (should be the Brainstorms). A lot of time went into a disappointingly low scoring 11-9 Spartans win in TRIPLE OVERTIME.

NAIA VS NCAA DIVISION THREE

NAIA WINS – The ARKANSAS BAPTIST COLLEGE BUFFALOES won a 20-19 thriller at the LYON COLLEGE SCOTS   ###   In Overtime, the MAYVILLE STATE COMETS triumphed over the NEBRASKA WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY PRAIRIE WOLVES 20-13   ###    The MADONNA UNIVERSITY CRUSADERS smacked down their hosts the OLIVET COLLEGE COMETS 45-28   ###   And the EASTERN OREGON MOUNTAINEERS beat the (24) WHITWORTH PIRATES 16-10.

D3 WINS – The PACIFIC LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY LUTES welcomed the SIMPSON UNIVERSITY REDHAWKS and obliterated them 42-16   ###   Meanwhile, the (21) UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN AT WHITEWATER WARHAWKS shut out the ST. XAVIER UNIVERSITY COUGARS 37-0 in their own house   ###   And the EAST TEXAS BAPTIST TIGERS won 28-0 at the OKLAHOMA PANHANDLE STATE AGGIES (should be Okies).

*** The NAIA triumphed 4 games to 3, taking a 2-0-1 lead in weeks won so far this season. ***

OTHER UPSETS IN THE RANKINGS – The EVANGEL UNIVERSITY VALOR took it on the road against the 14th ranked SOUTHWESTERN COLLEGE MOUNDBUILDERS and defeated them 35-25    ###    And elsewhere, the WILLIAM PENN UNIVERSITY STATESMEN faced the home standing number 16 BAKER UNIVERSITY WILDCATS in a 24-13 victory.

HOW SWEDE IT IS – This game pitted the BETHANY COLLEGE SWEDES against their hosts the UNIVERSITY OF ST. MARY SPIRES. The Swedes held a 24-20 edge over USM come Halftime. The 3rd Quarter ended in a 34-34 deadlock before Bethany College won the game in the 4th by a final tally of 48-34.

UNDER THE RADAR CLASSICS – The SIENA HEIGHTS UNIVERSITY SAINTS welcomed the UNIVERSITY OF ST. FRANCIS (IL) FIGHTING SAINTS and emerged with a 24-21 triumph   ###   Meanwhile, the LOUISIANA CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY WILDCATS survived a 43-37 visit from the WAYLAND BAPTIST PIONEERS   ###   And the TAYLOR UNIVERSITY TROJANS downed the KENTUCKY CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY KNIGHTS 42-35.

PHOENIX RISING – Up next, the CUMBERLAND UNIVERSITY PHOENIX were less than gracious hosts for the AVE MARIA UNIVERSITY GYRENES. The Phoenix led Ave Maria U. 14-0 in the 1st Quarter and 28-0 at the Half. After the break, Cumberland University left the Gyrenes further and further behind on their way to a 55-7 blowout win.  

NCAA DIVISION TWO

OTHER UPSETS IN THE RANKINGS – The EDWARD WATERS UNIVERSITY TIGERS edged the visiting number 15 VIRGINIA UNION UNIVERSITY PANTHERS 41-38   ###   Elsewhere, the UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA AT PEMBROKE BRAVES beat the 19th ranked DELTA STATE STATESMEN 25-21   ###   And the number 25 UNIVERSITY OF INDIANAPOLIS GREYHOUNDS beat the 20th ranked ASHLAND UNIVERSITY EAGLES 33-26.

TIM-BERRRRR – In this game the NORTHWOOD UNIVERSITY TIMBERWOLVES traveled to face the SAGINAW VALLEY UNIVERSITY CARDINALS. The Timberwolves converted their 14-0 opening Quarter lead into a 28-0 advantage by Halftime. After the break, Northwood U. coasted to a 38-14 beatdown of the Cardinals.

ALL NAME GAMES – The SOUTHERN ARKANSAS UNIVERSITY MULERIDERS notched a 26-18 road win at the SOUTHERN NAZARENE UNIVERSITY CRIMSON STORM   ###   Next, the UPPER IOWA UNIVERSITY PEACOCKS eviscerated the SOUTH DAKOTA M&T HARDROCKERS 58-14   ###   And the MISSOURI WESTERN STATE GRIFFONS defeated the MISSOURI S&T MINERS 27-10.

TWO-POINT WONDER – The (14) CALIFORNIA (PA) UNIVERSITY VULCANS (as in the Roman god Vulcan) were at home against the WEST CHESTER UNIVERSITY GOLDEN RAMS. A 10-0 1st Quarter lead for the Vulcans was cut to just 13-10 by the midpoint of the game. From there, the Golden Rams edged a bit closer but Cal (PA) held on for a 26-24 triumph. 

NCAA DIVISION THREE

UPSETS IN THE RANKINGS – There was only one Upset in the D3 rankings yesterday. It came in the game between the CENTRAL COLLEGE DUTCH and the visiting number 19 RANDOLPH-MACON COLLEGE YELLOW JACKETS. After neither team scored in the 1st Quarter, the Dutch led 7-0 come Halftime before going on to a 10-0 victory.

A DOUBLE SHOT OF THAT O.T. LOVE – The ALBION COLLEGE BRITONS were on the road against the BLUFFTON COLLEGE BEAVERS and perfidiously beat them 45-39 in Double Overtime    ###    And the BATES COLLEGE BOBCATS took the field against the visiting AMHERST COLLEGE MAMMOTHS (formerly the Lord Jeffs) and won out 26-23 in 2 O.Ts. 

HISTORY IS MADE – The ROANOKE COLLEGE MAROONS are playing their first season of intercollegiate football since 1942, and managed a victory in just their second game back in action! The Maroons visited the GREENSBORO COLLEGE PRIDE. Greensboro was on top 15-11 at the Half, but Roanoke went up 18-15 in the 3rd Quarter. The Maroons won by a final score of 32-22.

ROAD RAGE – The ITHACA COLLEGE BOMBERS traveled to face the ALFRED UNIVERSITY SAXONS and handed them a 45-14 rout   ###   Next, the CHRISTOPHER NEWPORT UNIVERSITY CAPTAINS crushed the GETTYSBURG COLLEGE BULLETS 49-14   ###   And the MASSACHUSETTS INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY ENGINEERS shut out the NEW ENGLAND COLLEGE PILGRIMS 55-0.

NSAC

BRUISING BISHOPS – The NORTH CAROLINA WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY BISHOPS took it on the road against the NEWPORT NEWS APPRENTICE SCHOOL BUILDERS (Shipbuilders) yesterday. The Bishops converted their 14-7 1st Quarter lead into a 35-7 command by Halftime. The Builders didn’t score again until the 4th Quarter as North Carolina Wesleyan triumphed 49-16.

DEFENSIVE PERFECTION; OFFENSIVE DOMINANCE – In this game the VIRGINIA UNIVERSITY OF LYNCHBURG DRAGONS squared off against the visiting BARBER-SCOTIA COLLEGE SABERS. The Sabers are in their very first season of intercollegiate football and it definitely showed as the Dragons owned them on both sides of the ball for a 57-0 shutout.

GAME OF THE DAY – The NSAC’s most competitive game of the day on Saturday was the clash between the CENTRAL GEORGIA TECHNICAL COLLEGE TITANS and the home standing CLAYTON STATE LAKERS. Come Halftime, the Titans were on top of Clayton State 17-10. From there, the Lakers kept it close but lost to CGTC 38-33. 

FORFEITS – Even for the NSAC being in its very first year of football two forfeits on one weekend is still a bit of a stumble. The GORDON STATE HIGHLANDERS got a win by forfeit from the NAPLES ACADEMY KNIGHTS, and we also had the LIGHTHOUSE CHRISTIAN COLLEGE MAKOS (as in the sharks) getting a win by forfeit from the JAMES MELVIN CHRISTIAN COLLEGE MANGOS. 

NJCAA

ONE VERSUS TWO – The number 1 team in the nation – the HUTCHINSON COLLEGE BLUE DRAGONS – played host to the 2nd ranked IOWA WESTERN COLLEGE REIVERS. By Halftime this clash of titans was knotted up at 14-14. The 3rd Quarter ended in a 23-20 Blue Dragons edge. In the 4th, Hutchinson College held off the Reivers for a 30-27 victory.

ANOTHER BATTLE OF RANKED TEAMS – This game pitted the 5th ranked TYLER COLLEGE APACHES against the home standing number 11 TRINITY VALLEY COLLEGE CARDINALS. A scoreless opening Quarter was followed by a 7-0 Cardinals advantage at the Half. The Apaches forced Overtime with a 7-7 tie in the 4th, then won 14-7 in the extra session.

BLOWOUTS – The (14) IOWA CENTRAL COLLEGE TRITONS completely overwhelmed their hosts the HIGHLAND COLLEGE SCOTTIES to the tune of 63-27   ###   Meanwhile, the MESABI RANGE COLLEGE NORSE folded, spindled and mutilated the visiting VERMILION COLLEGE IRONHAWKS 58-0   ###   And the (10) GEORGIA MILITARY COLLEGE BULLDOGS annihilated the SUSSEX COUNTY COLLEGE SKYLANDERS 84-12.   

HAPPY HOMESTANDS – The NEW MEXICO MILITARY INSTITUTE BRONCOS (should be the Cavalry) got themselves a 36-22 victory over the KILGORE COLLEGE RANGERS   ###   The LOUISBURG COLLEGE HURRICANES beat the HUDSON VALLEY COLLEGE VIKINGS 38-10 on Youth Day   ###   And the COLLEGE OF DUPAGE CHAPARRALS beat the HOCKING COLLEGE HAWKS 50-33. 

CCCAA

ONE AND TWO ROLL – The top ranked COLLEGE OF SAN MATEO BULLDOGS took the field against the visiting number 3 MODESTO COLLEGE PIRATES and pretty much manhandled them 41-21    ###    While elsewhere, the 2nd ranked MOUNT SAN ANTONIO COLLEGE MOUNTIES won a much closer 37-27 affair against their guests the number 5 EL CAMINO COLLEGE WARRIORS.

INSTANT CLASSICS – The DE ANZA COLLEGE DONS welcomed the FEATHER RIVER COLLEGE GOLDEN EAGLES and defeated them by a score of 35-29   ###   Meanwhile, the (13) MONTEREY PENINSULA COLLEGE LOBOS survived a 20-18 visit from the (19) SANTA ROSA COLLEGE BEAR CUBS   ###   And the (24) PASADENA CITY COLLEGE LANCERS edged the PALOMAR COLLEGE COMETS 24-23.

RUSTLING UP A SHUTOUT – The T5 GOLDEN WEST COLLEGE RUSTLERS took on the visiting number 21 ALLAN HANCOCK COLLEGE BULLDOGS on Saturday. The Rustlers were invincible on both sides of the ball in this game, leading Allan Hancock College 27-0 by Halftime. From there, Golden West College left the Bulldogs further and further behind in this 55-0 win.

ALL NAME GAMES – The LOS ANGELES VALLEY COLLEGE MONARCHS won 23-13 at the PIERCE COLLEGE BRAHMA BULLS   ###   Elsewhere, the ANTELOPE VALLEY COLLEGE MARAUDERS survived a 38-36 visit from the GROSSMONT COLLEGE GRIFFINS   ###   And the (18) COLLEGE OF THE SEQUOIAS GIANTS downed the (25) SAN JOSE CITY COLLEGE JAGUARS 28-14.
