BALLADEER’S BLOG: USCAA AND NCCAA2 CHAMPS CROWNED

USCAA (United States Collegiate Athletic Association) DIVISION ONE

CHAMPIONSHIP GAME – The 4th seeded NEWPORT NEWS APPRENTICE SCHOOL BUILDERS (Shipbuilders) took the court against the 3 seeds – the VILLA MARIA COLLEGE VIKINGS. The Builders embarrassed Villa Maria College on both sides of the ball, leading them 33 to EIGHT (!) at Halftime. From there, the Apprentice School coasted to their 2nd National Championship in a row with a 64-43 victory. Chris Hinmon’s 16 points led the Builders, and teammate Donovon Means had a Double Double of 10 points & 10 rebounds.

USCAA DIVISION TWO

CHAMPIONSHIP GAME – This title tilt pitted the 3 seeds – the UNIVERSITY OF MIAMI AT HAMILTON HARRIERS – against the 5th seeded PENN STATE AT SCHUYKILL LIONS. The defenses dominated the opening Half, which ended in a 28-27 PSU-Schuykill edge. After the break, this defensive epic continued as the Harriers came back to win the game 53-52. Sixteen points from Cory Davis led UM-Hamilton. 

NCCAA (National Christian College Athletic Association) DIVISION TWO

CHAMPIONSHIP GAME – It was all chalk in this tournament, and the last teams standing were the top seeded NORTH CENTRAL UNIVERSITY RAMS and the 2 seeds – the SPURGEON COLLEGE KNIGHTS. The Rams held a 47-39 advantage at the midpoint, then squeezed out just a bit more separation from there for a Century Club victory of 101-92. Tanner Holtman put up THIRTY-THREE points to lead NCU. 

*** The NCCAA Division One National Tournament starts today, March 19th.
