NCAA DIVISION THREE

EASY AS ONE, TWO, THREE – The number 1 team in the nation – the UNIVERSITY OF SAINT JOSEPH (CT) BLUEJAYS – hammered the DEAN COLLEGE BULLDOGS 87-60   ###   Meanwhile, the 2nd ranked RANDOLPH MACON COLLEGE YELLOW JACKETS defeated the ROANOKE COLLEGE MAROONS 69-50   ###   And the number 3 CHRISTOPHER NEWPORT UNIVERSITY CAPTAINS won 85-73 at the SALISBURY UNIVERSITY SEA GULLS.

CLOSE CALL FOR NUMBER SIX – The (6) JOHN CARROLL UNIVERSITY BLUE STREAKS took it on the road against the OHIO NORTHERN UNIVERSITY POLAR BEARS. At Halftime the Polar Bears were on top 44-36 but the Blue Streaks roared back to force Overtime with a 77-77 tie to end Regulation. In the extra session John Carroll University managed a 95-89 victory. Luke Chicone’s Double-Double of 19 points and 10 rebounds led the Blue Streaks.

CENTURY CLUB – Teams scoring 100 points or more in Regulation: The (11) OSWEGO STATE LAKERS eviscerated the visiting CORTLAND STATE RED DRAGONS 102-62   ###   Elsewhere, the UNIVERSITY OF MAINE AT PRESQUE ISLE OWLS won 103-81 at the NORTHERN VERMONT UNIVERSITY AT LYNDON HORNETS   ###   The MITCHELL COLLEGE MARINERS also won on the road 113-68 at the LESLEY UNIVERSITY LYNX   ###   And the SCHREINER UNIVERSITY MOUNTAINEERS routed the UNIVERSITY OF DALLAS CRUSADERS 103-67.   

ONE-POINT WONDER – In this game the MARY BALDWIN UNIVERSITY FIGHTING SQUIRRELS played host to the PFEIFFER UNIVERSITY FALCONS (should be Pfalcons). The Fighting Squirrels were chasing the Falcons at the Half 37-34, but after the break MBU came from behind to win the game by a final tally of 81-80. Brett Asbury tossed in 28 points to lead the Fighting Squirrels.

PUTTING IN OVERTIME – The MOUNT ALOYSIUS COLLEGE MOUNTIES edged the visiting ALFRED STATE SAXONS in the extra session 97-96   ###   The MILWAUKEE SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING RAIDERS used OT to defeat the DOMINICAN UNIVERSITY CHARGERS by a score of 75-73   ###   And the MEDAILLE UNIVERSITY MAVERICKS eked out a 74-72 OT win over the RUSSELL SAGE COLLEGE GATORS. 

REVOLT OF THE MACCABEES – This game pitted the YESHIVA UNIVERSITY MACCABEES against their guests the COLLEGE OF MOUNT SAINT VINCENT DOLPHINS. The Maccabees were up 38-33 come Halftime, and from there they managed a bit more separation from the Dolphins to win the game 83-75. Zevi Samet’s 22 points led Yeshiva University.

ROAD WARRIORS – The NEBRASKA WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY PRAIRIE WOLVES visited the LORAS COLLEGE DUHAWKS and beat them 84-74   ###   Elsewhere, the ILLINOIS COLLEGE BLUE BOYS downed the LAKE FOREST COLLEGE FORESTERS by a comfortable margin of 83-63   ###   And the WEBSTER UNIVERSITY GORLOCKS won 79-59 at the PRINCIPIA COLLEGE PANTHERS.

DEFENSIVE EPIC – Suffocating defense was the story of this game between the EASTERN MENNONITE UNIVERSITY ROYALS and the home standing AVERETT UNIVERSITY COUGARS. At the midpoint the Royals were on top by a mere 29-25. After the break the Cougars bit into the Eastern Mennonite University lead, but ultimately fell to the Royals by a count of 54-51. Michael Wattlington notched 14 points to lead EMU.
