NUMBER TWO STILL UNBEATEN – The number 2 team in the nation – the NOVA SOUTHEASTERN UNIVERSITY SHARKS – improved to 21-0 for the season in their game against the PALM BEACH ATLANTIC UNIVERSITY SAILFISH. The Sharks were comfortably on top 55-35 by Halftime, then coasted to a 96-66 triumph. Kobe Rodgers and Will Yoakum logged 20 points each to lead NSU.
CENTURY CLUB – Teams scoring 100 points or more in Regulation: The LEE UNIVERSITY FLAMES won 101-90 at the AUBURN UNIVERSITY AT MONTGOMERY WARHAWKS ### Meanwhile, the CALIFORNIA (PA) VULCANS defeated their hosts the EDINBORO U. FIGHTING SCOTS 106-97 ### And the BELMONT-ABBEY COLLEGE CRUSADERS routed the FRANCIS MARION UNIVERSITY PATRIOTS 107-68.
CHAMINADE ON THE ROAD – The CHAMINADE UNIVERSITY SILVERSWORDS traveled to face the CONCORDIA (CA) UNIVERSITY AT IRVINE GOLDEN EAGLES (should be the Condors). The Silverswords were leading CUI by a score of 40-32 at the Half, then managed a bit more separation after the break for an 81-69 victory. Jalen Brattain tossed in 21 points to lead Chaminade University.
WORKING OVERTIME – The CHESTNUT HILL COLLEGE GRIFFINS and the UNIVERSITY OF BRIDGEPORT PURPLE KNIGHTS went into OT before the Griffins emerged with an 87-81 win ### Elsewhere, the WINSTON-SALEM STATE RAMS won 72-70 in the extra session at the ST. AUGUSTINE’S UNIVERSITY FALCONS ### And the COLUMBUS STATE COUGARS used OT to beat the USC-AIKEN PACERS 80-77.
THE ART OF THE ROAD WIN – In this hardcourt clash the ACADEMY OF ART URBAN KNIGHTS took it on the road against the BIOLA UNIVERSITY EAGLES. The Urban Knights were on top 38-29 by the midpoint and kept the Eagles at arm’s length the rest of the way, ultimately winning the game by a final tally of 79-66. Jamal Fuller’s 21 points led the Academy of Art to victory.
NORTH TO ALASKA – The UNIVERSITY OF ALASKA AT FAIRBANKS NANOOKS defeated the visiting CENTRAL WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY WILDCATS in a 69-66 Instant Classic ### And the UNIVERSITY OF ALASKA AT ANCHORAGE SEAWOLVES fell to the NORTHWEST NAZARENE UNIVERSITY NIGHTHAWKS by an equally tight 74-71.
NOTHING UP THEIR SLEEVES – This game pitted the LEMOYNE-OWEN COLLEGE MAGICIANS against their guests the SPRING HILL COLLEGE BADGERS. A defense-dominated 1st Half ended with the Magicians holding a 28-25 edge, and from there Lemoyne-Owen College went on to a 78-67 win. Micah Evans notched a Double-Double of 16 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Magicians.
HAPPY HOME STANDS – The CALIFORNIA STATE AT MONTEREY BAY OTTERS survived an 89-84 visit from the CAL POY POMONA BRONCOS ### The UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN AT PARKSIDE RANGERS defeated the LAKE SUPERIOR STATE LAKERS 82-79 ### And the TREVECCA NAZARENE UNIVERSITY TROJANS beat the OHIO DOMINICAN UNIVERSITY PANTHERS in a 51-44 defensive epic.
BATTLE OF COOL-NAMED TEAMS – The ROGERS STATE HILLCATS played host to the NORTHEASTERN STATE RIVERHAWKS in this battle of cool-named teams. The score was knotted up at 40-40 at Halftime, but after the break the Hillcats managed more and more distance from the Riverhawks, ultimately triumphing 78-67. Twenty-five points from Chris Whitaker led Rogers State.
