It’s that time of year again! Just a note in the spirit of the holiday season to mention my favorite Thanksgiving Eve movie.
Every Wednesday before Thanksgiving I make a point out of watching the musical Oliver! And yes, I know it has nothing to do with Thanksgiving.
I know the musical sentimentalizes several characters that Dickens portrayed in a sinister way in the book (especially Fagan and The Artful Dodger) but the finished product has always seemed very holidayish to me.
Since Christmas has plenty of films that go with it I decided to make Oliver! the official Thanksgiving Eve flick in my eccentric little world. My Thanksgiving Day post will be tomorrow.
If you are talking about the version that has Oliver Reed in it, then, yes, it does have a holiday feel to it!! You’re right, it is very light compared to the book but then the book was intended as a savage blast across the bow of the Establishment and would not have made for light entertainment! 😉 Hope that you and yours enjoy the holiday! 🙂
Yep, you said it perfectly! The book was intended for something different, but the musical just has something about it. You enjoy the weekend, too!
🙂
😀
Thank you! Enjoy your Thanksgiving!
I have it all planned!
