NJCAA DIVISION THREE
FIRST SEMIFINAL – The 4th seeded NORTH LAKE COLLEGE BLAZERS ended the Cinderella run of the 8 seeds – the ROCK VALLEY COLLEGE GOLDEN EAGLES.
At Halftime the Blazers were chasing Rock Valley College, who held a 31-28 edge. From there North Lake College came roaring back, ultimately winning the game by a final score of 66-65. Gregory Crawford led the Blazers with 16 points and 9 rebounds.
SECOND SEMIFINAL – This game pitted the 2 seeds – the GENESEE COLLEGE COUGARS – against the 6th seeded EASTFIELD COLLEGE HARVESTERS.
The Harvesters proved they were in it to win it with their 33-31 lead over Genesee College at the Half. After the break the Cougars mounted a comeback, winning this thriller over Eastfield College 77-76. THIRTY-SIX points from Jalen Willis led Genesee College, while his teammate Antwan Williams notched a Double-Double of 10 points and 11 rebounds.
NCAA DIVISION THREE
PLUNDER AT SEA – The UNIVERSITY OF MASSACHUSETTS AT DARTMOUTH CORSAIRS took on the EMERSON COLLEGE LIONS.
This was a tale of two Halves, as the Lions were on top 43-31 by the midpoint of the game only to see the Corsairs overtake them from there in the action packed 2nd Half. The final tally was UMASS-Dartmouth 86 Emerson College 83. Marcus Azor led the way for the Corsairs with his Double-Double of 27 points and 10 rebounds.
COME FLY WITH US – The NAZARETH COLLEGE GOLDEN FLYERS played the WESTFIELD STATE OWLS in this game.
At the break the Golden Flyers were on top of their opponents by a score of 36-31. After the break Nazareth College squeezed out a tad more separation from the Owls for a 78-71 victory. Kevin Underwood and Zach Stenglein put up 20 points each to lead the Golden Flyers.
CAPTAINS OF THEIR FATE – The CHRISTOPHER NEWPORT UNIVERSITY CAPTAINS found themselves up against the BARUCH COLLEGE BEARCATS.
The Captains dominated Baruch College on both sides of the ball, doubling up on them 46-23 by Halftime. CNU never looked back, ultimately clobbering the Bearcats in an 88-50 laugher. Trey Barber’s Double-Double of 17 points and 10 rebounds led the victors.
BATTLE OF COOL-NAMED TEAMS – The STOCKTON UNIVERSITY OSPREYS faced the WILSON COLLEGE PHOENIX.
The Ospreys showed no mercy, embarrassing the Phoenix 41-20 at the break and not letting up one bit in the 2nd Half. In the end Stockton University spanked Wilson College 87-52. DJ Campbell tossed in THIRTY-THREE points for the Ospreys while teammate Kadian Dawkins managed an unusual Double-Double of 17 points and 10 assists.
THWARTING THE REVOLT – In this game the JOHNS HOPKINS UNIVERSITY BLUE JAYS took on the YESHIVA UNIVERSITY MACCABEES.
The Blue Jays had mustered a 32-28 lead over Yeshiva University come Halftime. From there JHU and the Maccabees went blow for blow and point for point as the Blue Jays won the game 63-59. Carson James led Johns Hopkins with 23 points.
ONE POINT WONDER – Teams named after birds were really kicking butt in this tournament. The POMONA-PITZER COLLEGE SAGEHENS continued that trend, but against ANOTHER avian team – the UNIVERSITY OF NORTHWESTERN (MN) EAGLES.
The Eagles were on top 34-31 at the midpoint, but the determined Sagehens came out of the locker room primed for a comeback. The final score was Pomona-Pitzer 67 UNM 66. Matthew Eberle led the victors with 21 points while fellow Sagehen Brendan Mora registered a Double-Double of 15 points and 12 rebounds.
