For newbies, the many reschedulings over Covid from last fall meant that the NAIA college football playoffs didn’t get started until last weekend. Yesterday was Round Two.
FIRST QUARTERFINAL – The NORTHWESTERN (IA) COLLEGE RED RAIDERS traveled to face the GRAND VIEW UNIVERSITY VIKINGS (should be the Zebras). A 7-0 1st Quarter lead for the Vikings became a 14-7 advantage by Halftime. The 3rd Quarter ended with the Red Raiders on top by a score of 17-14, then both teams notched 10 more points in the 4th as Northwestern College won the game 27-24.
SECOND QUARTERFINAL – This game pitted the 2-time defending National Champions – the MORNINGSIDE COLLEGE MUSTANGS – against the visiting BAKER UNIVERSITY WILDCATS. The Wildcats were as tough as ever, leading the Mustangs 14-9 in the opening Quarter and holding a 21-9 lead at the Half. After the break Morningside College came stampeding back, going up 24-21 in the 3rd Quarter, then winning out by a comfortable final count of 45-29.
THIRD QUARTERFINAL – The LINDSEY WILSON COLLEGE BLUE RAIDERS played host to the CONCORDIA (MI) CARDINALS yesterday. The Blue Raiders dominated nearly all the way in this gridiron clash and were out in front by a commanding 28-7 at the midpoint of the game. From there they kept the Cardinals roughly the same distance behind them for a 49-27 triumph and a trip to the Semifinals.
FOURTH QUARTERFINAL – Wrapping up the Quarterfinals was this game between the KEISER UNIVERSITY SEAHAWKS and their guests the REINHARDT UNIVERSITY EAGLES (should be the Rottweilers). A 7-7 tie in the 1st Quarter turned into a 14-7 Seahawks advantage come Halftime. A HUGE 3rd Quarter for Keiser University saw them expand their lead to 35-14 before they coasted in the 4th for a 42-14 blowout win.
