NAIA OVER NCAA D2 – Another NAIA team played giant-slayer against a higher division team yesterday. The NAIA’s ALLEN UNIVERSITY YELLOW JACKETS traveled to face the NCAA Division Two team the ELIZABETH CITY STATE VIKINGS. It took Overtime to do it, but in the end the Yellow Jackets prevailed by a final score of 32-29.
KNOCKING OFF NUMBER THREE – Down in NCAA Division Three, the UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN AT OSHKOSH TITANS welcomed the number 3 team in the nation – the UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN AT WHITEWATER WARHAWKS. By Halftime the Titans held a 14-13 edge but the Warhawks went up 20-14 in the 3rd Quarter. In the 4th UW-Oshkosh roared back for a 27-20 victory.
DOWN GOES NUMBER NINE – Staying in D3, the 17th ranked UNIVERSITY OF SAINT THOMAS TOMMIES took the field against the visiting number 9 BETHEL (MN) ROYALS. A 7-0 1st Quarter lead for the Tommies became a 14-7 lead at the Half. The 2nd Half was nearly all defense with the University of Saint Thomas adding a Field Goal in the 4th Quarter to win out 17-7.
AND NUMBER TEN COMES TUMBLING AFTER – In NCAA Division Two, the number 12 NORTHWEST MISSOURI STATE BEARCATS played host to the 10th ranked UNIVERSITY OF CENTRAL MISSOURI MULES. The Bearcats grabbed a quick 14-3 lead in the 1st Quarter and never looked back on their way to a 45-23 triumph.
USCAA SPOTLIGHT GAME – In USCAA action the BYU of the East, the SOUTHERN VIRGINIA UNIVERSITY KNIGHTS (should be the Danites) defended their home field against the NEWPORT NEWS APPRENTICE SCHOOL BUILDERS (Shipbuilders). The Knights kept the Builders off the scoreboard until the 4th Quarter while parlaying a 14-0 Halftime lead into a 40-7 blowout win.
S.A.M: SERVICE ACADEMY MANIA – The UNITED STATES MERCHANT MARINE ACADEMY MARINERS paid a call on the COAST GUARD ACADEMY BEARS for their annual rivalry game. The Mariners led this shootout 13-7 in the opening Quarter and 27-21 at the midpoint. From there the Merchant Marine Academy outscored the Bears 29-20 for a 56-41 victory.
UPSETS IN THE RANKINGS – The only Upset in the NAIA rankings yesterday came in the game between the EASTERN OREGON UNIVERSITY MOUNTAINEERS and the visiting 22nd ranked CARROLL (MT) FIGHTING SAINTS. A 7-7 1st Quarter tie turned into a 14-14 deadlock at the break. The Fighting Saints went up 20-14 in the 3rd Quarter but the Mountaineers came from behind in the 4th to win it 28-26.
HAPPY SENIOR DAYS – The TABOR COLLEGE BLUEJAYS marked Senior Day with a 34-30 victory over the STERLING COLLEGE WARRIORS ### And the (13) REINHARDT UNIVERSITY EAGLES (should be the Rottweilers) dismembered their guests the UNION COLLEGE BULLDOGS by a score of SIXTY-THREE to NOTHING.
TUSSLE IN THE TOP TEN – The (7) LINDSEY WILSON COLLEGE BLUE RAIDERS visited the (8) UNIVERSITY OF THE CUMBERLANDS PATRIOTS on Saturday. By Halftime the Blue Raiders were on top 21-14. Neither team scored in the 3rd Quarter and in the 4th Lindsey Wilson College held on tight for a 24-21 victory.
UNDER THE RADAR CLASSICS – The ARIZONA CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY FIRESTORM welcomed the TEXAS COLLEGE STEERS and defeated them 24-20 ### The ROBERT MORRIS (IL) EAGLES (should be the Wind Eagles) survived a 28-24 visit from the SAINT AMBROSE UNIVERSITY FIGHTING BEES ### And the CULVER-STOCKTON COLLEGE WILDCATS downed the WILLIAM PENN UNIVERSITY STATESMEN 17-10.
ENDING ON A POSITIVE NOTE – The UNIVERSITY OF JAMESTOWN JIMMIES ended their disappointing 2019 season by hosting the BRIAR CLIFF UNIVERSITY CHARGERS. The Jimmies extended a 7-0 1st Quarter edge into a 14-3 advantage at the Half. The Chargers pulled to within 14-10 in the 3rd Quarter but the University of Jamestown exploded for 17 points in the 4th Quarter to win the game 31-10.
UNHAPPY SENIOR DAYS – The SOUTHWESTERN COLLEGE MOUNDBUILDERS ruined Senior Day for their hosts the UNIVERSITY OF SAINT MARY SPIRES by defeating them 28-10 ### And the (20) BENEDICTINE UNIVERSITY RAVENS hammered the home-standing MISSOURI VALLEY COLLEGE VIKINGS 52-28.
NUMBER TWO CLINCHES CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP – The (2) OTTAWA UNIVERSITY (AZ) SPIRIT took it on the road against the SOUTHWESTERN ASSEMBLIES OF GOD UNIVERSITY LIONS. The Spirit were chasing the Lions 7-0 in the opening Quarter before taking a 9-7 edge into Halftime. That became a 23-14 lead in the 3rd Quarter and ultimately a SAC Conference crown-winning 33-14 victory.
ROAD ROYALTY – The (4) WARNER UNIVERSITY ROYALS visited the WEBBER INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY WARRIORS on Saturday. The 1st Half was a defensive epic, with the Royals up just 6-0 at the break. The 3rd Quarter ended in a 13-6 advantage for Warner U but the Warriors forced Overtime with a 20-20 tie in the 4th. In the extra session the Royals won out 23-20.
EIGHTY-FOUR – The OLIVET NAZARENE UNIVERSITY TIGERS, champions of last year’s Victory Bowl, played host to the TRINITY INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY TROJANS. It was all ONU as the Tigers parlayed a 21-7 1st Quarter lead into a 49-7 score by Halftime. In the end Olivet Nazarene won the game EIGHTY-FOUR to SEVEN.
FRANCIS FIELD FRACAS – The GREENVILLE UNIVERSITY PANTHERS defended Francis Field against the visiting UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA AT MORRIS COUGARS. The Panthers seemed in charge most of the way, leading 21-13 in the 1st Quarter, 28-13 at the break and 34-13 in the 3rd. In the 4th Quarter Greenville U had to withstand a furious Cougars rally to eke out a 34-33 win.
CATFIGHT – The BETHEL (TN) WILDCATS found themselves on the road against the CAMPBELLSVILLE UNIVERSITY TIGERS. The Tigers couldn’t stop fumbling and the Wildcats took full advantage, leading the game 42-21 at the Half enroute to a 63-28 massacre.

OTHER UPSETS IN THE RANKINGS – The only other Upset in the D2 rankings came in the game between the WAYNE STATE WARRIORS (formerly the Tartar Warriors) and their hosts, the 19th ranked GRAND VALLEY STATE LAKERS. By Halftime these familiar foes were knotted up at 17-17. In the 2nd Half the Warriors shut out the Lakers and won the game by a final tally of 31-17.
ALL-NAME GAMES – The SOUTHERN ARKANSAS UNIVERSITY MULERIDERS took the field against the visiting UNIVERSITY OF ARKANSAS AT MONTICELLO BOLL WEEVILS and won a 34-32 Instant Classic ### Meanwhile the SOUTH DAKOTA M&T HARDROCKERS won 37-27 at the FORT LEWIS COLLEGE SKYHAWKS ### And the MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE CHOCTAWS clobbered the DELTA STATE STATESMEN 37-13.
ONE TEAM WAS PLAYING BASKETBALL – The MISSOURI WESTERN STATE GRIFFONS traveled to take on the LINCOLN (MO) BLUE TIGERS. The Griffons dominated the Blue Tigers on both sides of the ball, leading them 17-0 in the 1st Quarter and 40-0 at the break on their way to a SEVENTY-ONE to EIGHT triumph.
HOME AND AWAY – The WASHBURN UNIVERSITY ICHABODS were away visiting the UNIVERSITY OF NEBRASKA AT KEARNEY LOPERS and won 57-41 ### And the home-standing QUINCY UNIVERSITY HAWKS defeated the WILLIAM JEWELL UNIVERSITY CARDINALS by a score of 47-42.
ONE-POINT WONDERS – The MISSOURI S&T MINERS won a 51-50 game for the ages against the visiting MCKENDREE UNIVERSITY BEARCATS ### The LOCK HAVEN UNIVERSITY BALD EAGLES survived a 28-27 visit from the GANNON UNIVERSITY GOLDEN KNIGHTS ### And the WEST CHESTER UNIVERSITY GOLDEN RAMS downed the CALIFORNIA (PA) UNIVERSITY VULCANS 20-19.

OTHER UPSETS IN THE RANKINGS – The CARNEGIE MELLON UNIVERSITY TARTANS welcomed the 20th ranked CASE WESTERN RESERVE UNIVERSITY SPARTANS and won a 24-21 Instant Classic ### And the MORRISVILLE STATE MUSTANGS won by the exact same 24-21 score over the visiting number 22 COLLEGE AT BROCKPORT GOLDEN EAGLES.
THE HYPHEN BOWL – The CLAREMONT-MUDD-SCRIPPS COLLEGE STAGS played host to the POMONA-PITZER COLLEGE SAGEHENS yesterday. A 7-7 1st Quarter tie turned into a 17-14 Stags lead by Halftime. Each team added a Field Goal in the 2nd Half as CMS College managed a 20-17 victory.
ROAD WARRIORS – The PACIFIC LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY LUTES won handily 45-20 on the road against the WILLAMETTE UNIVERSITY BEARCATS ### Meanwhile the AUGSBURG UNIVERSITY AUGGIES beat their hosts the HAMLINE UNIVERSITY PIPERS by a Polo score of 12-9 ### And the COLLEGE OF WOOSTER SCOTS hammered the HIRAM UNIVERSITY TERRIERS 37-12 in their own house.
FEELING THEIR OATS – The still-young UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND NOR’EASTERS football team flexed their muscles on Saturday against the BECKER UNIVERSITY HAWKS. The Nor’easters led 10-8 by the midpoint and ended the 3rd Quarter on top 17-8. In the 4th UNE had to hold on against a Hawks rally for a 24-20 triumph.
UNDER THE RADAR CLASSICS – The WASHINGTON & LEE UNIVERSITY GENERALS prevailed over the home-standing SHENANDOAH UNIVERSITY HORNETS 34-31 ### The UNIVERSITY OF MASSACHUSETTS AT DARTMOUTH CORSAIRS won 19-13 at the WESTFIELD STATE OWLS ### And the ROWAN UNIVERSITY PROFS defeated their visiting archrivals THE COLLEGE OF NEW JERSEY LIONS 24-20.
