DAY THREE, GAME ONE: The 4 seeds – the WRIGHT STATE AT THE LAKE LAKERS – took on the 10th seeded BLUEFIELD STATE BIG BLUES in an elimination game. The Lakers turned a 2-1 edge over the Big Blues in the 1st Inning into a 3-1 lead in the 2nd.
The only other Run scored by Bluefield State came in the 5th Inning, while Wright State at the Lake drove in additional runs in the 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th to win the game TWELVE to TWO! Pitcher Noah Greathouse got the win.
DAY THREE, GAME TWO: In this game the 3rd seeded PENN STATE AT DUBOIS LIONS did battle with the top seeds – the NEWPORT NEWS APPRENTICE SCHOOL BUILDERS (Shipbuilders). By the 2nd Inning the Lions were on top of the Builders by a count of 2-1.
A 3-1 PSU-Dubois lead in the 4th Inning became a 4-2 advantage in the 5th. The Lions added 2 more Runs in the 6th Inning to the 1 notched by Newport News Apprentice School, and went on to a 6-3 victory. Dubois’ Austin Amacher was on the Mound for the W.
DAY THREE, GAME THREE: The 7 seeds – the BRYANT & STRATTON COLLEGE AT ALBANY BOBCATS – faced the 4th seeded WRIGHT STATE AT THE LAKE LAKERS. The Lakers led 1-0 in the opening Inning and 2-0 in the 2nd.
The Bobcats went up 4-2 in the 3rd Inning and 6-4 in the 4th. Bryant & Stratton College shut out Wright State at the Lake the rest of the way while swinging their red-hot bats for a FIFTEEN to FOUR triumph. Exavier (sic) Santiago threw for the victory.
MACON BRACKET, TITLE GAME: The top seeded SOUTHEASTERN UNIVERSITY FIRE, the defending National Champions, played the 2nd seeded MIDDLE GEORGIA STATE KNIGHTS. The 1st Inning ended with the Fire on top of the Knights by a count of 1-0.
A Pitcher’s Duel commenced for the next 3 Innings, ending when Southeastern University extended their lead to 2-0 in the 5th. In the 7th Inning the Fire slammed in another Run and rode it to a 3-0 Shutout victory for Pitcher Austin Covers. * THE FIRE ARE CHAMPIONS OF THE MACON BRACKET *
LAWRENCEVILLE BRACKET, TITLE GAME: The 1 seeds – the GEORGIA GWINNETT COLLEGE GRIZZLIES – went up against the 2nd seeded GEORGETOWN (KY) COLLEGE TIGERS. The Tigers went up 1-0 in the 1st Inning, followed by 6 Innings in which neither team scored.
The Grizzlies tied the score at 1-1 in the 8th Inning and then drove in another Run in the 9th to win this game by a final tally of 2-1. Matthew Swain pitched for the win. * THE GRIZZLIES ARE CHAMPIONS OF THE LAWRENCEVILLE BRACKET *
HENDERSON BRACKET, TITLE GAME: The last two teams standing in this Bracket were the 2nd seeded FREED-HARDEMAN UNIVERSITY LIONS and the top seeds – the OKLAHOMA WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY EAGLES. After a scoreless 1st Inning the Eagles took a 2-1 edge in the 2nd.
The Lions knotted things up at 2-2 in the 3rd Inning followed by a Pitcher’s Duel in the 4th and 5th. In the 6th Inning Freed-Hardeman University went on top 4-2, then 5-4 in the 7th. That wound up being the final score, too, as Pitcher Huey Anderson notched the Save. * THE LIONS ARE CHAMPIONS OF THE HENDERSON BRACKET *
KINGSPORT BRACKET, TITLE GAME: The top seeds – the TENNESSEE WESLEYAN COLLEGE BULLDOGS – clashed with the 2nd seeded WEBBER INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY WARRIORS. By the 3rd Inning the Bulldogs held a 3-2 lead over the Warriors.
In the 5th Inning Tennessee Wesleyan College were in front 7-2 but Webber International cut that to 7-4 by the 7th. The Bulldogs added another Run in the 8th for an 8-4 triumph behind Pitcher Jerry Ochoa. * THE BULLDOGS ARE CHAMPIONS OF THE KINGSPORT BRACKET *
SANTA BARBARA BRACKET, TITLE GAME: Another top seed vs 2 seed finale as the (1) UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE & ARTS OF OKLAHOMA DROVERS took on the (2) WESTMONT COLLEGE WARRIORS (should be the Guardians). This Battle Royal lasted for TWELVE INNINGS.
The Warriors seized a 3-0 1st Inning lead which lasted until the Drovers pulled to within 3-2 in the 3rd. That became a 3-3 tie in the 5th, a 4-3 USAO edge in the 6th and a 4-4 tie in the 9th. Neither team scored in the 10th or 11th Innings but the Drovers emerged with a 7-4 victory in the 12th. Rudy Gonzalez pitched for the win. * THE DROVERS ARE CHAMPIONS OF THE SANTA BARBARA BRACKET *
MIAMI GARDENS BRACKET, TITLE GAME: The 1 seeded SAINT THOMAS UNIVERSITY BOBCATS faced the 2 seeds – the WILLIAM JESSUP UNIVERSITY WARRIORS. Neither team scored until the 3rd Inning at which point the Bobcats went up 1-0.
In the 4th Inning the Warriors grabbed a 2-1 edge and stretched that out to 5-1 in the 5th. The Saint Thomas University bats exploded in the 6th Inning to retake the lead 7-5, which score held up as the final tally, too. Pitcher Jason Grana got the Save. * THE BOBCATS ARE CHAMPIONS OF THE MIAMI GARDENS BRACKET *
SHREVEPORT BRACKET, TITLE GAME: Finally some variety as this Bracket Championship tilt pitted the 3 seeds – the BELLEVUE (NE) UNIVERSITY BRUINS – against the 5th seeded YORK COLLEGE PANTHERS. The Bruins had compiled a 5-0 advantage by the 2nd Inning before the Panthers got on the board in the 3rd to make it 5-1.
A busy 6th Inning saw it become a 7-4 Bellevue lead. The Bruins shut out York College the rest of the way while adding more runs themselves for a 10-4 triumph. Colton Walker was the winning Pitcher. * THE BRUINS ARE CHAMPIONS OF THE SHREVEPORT BRACKET *
WILLIAMSBURG BRACKET, TITLE GAME: The 2nd seeded INDIANA TECH WARRIORS (should be the Hoplites) fought it out with the top seeded UNIVERSITY OF THE CUMBERLANDS PATRIOTS. A 2-0 Warriors advantage in the 1st Inning became a 3-0 lead in the 3rd.
The Patriots made it 3-1 in the 5th Inning and 2 Runs for each team made the score 5-3 to end the 6th. Indiana Tech notched one last Run in the 7th and UC in the 8th as the Warriors won it 6-4. Seth Sorensen picked up the W. * THE WARRIORS ARE CHAMPIONS OF THE WILLIAMSBURG BRACKET *
MONTGOMERY BRACKET, TITLE GAME: The top seeded FAULKNER UNIVERSITY EAGLES went up against the 3 seeds – the HOPE INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY ROYALS. After 2 scoreless Innings the Eagles took a 1-0 edge in the 3rd. That became a 4-2 Faulkner University advantage in the 4th following which the Eagles bats grew red-hot. Ultimately Faulkner won it SIXTEEN to TWO behind Pitcher Antonio Frias. * THE EAGLES ARE CHAMPIONS OF THE MONTGOMERY BRACKET *
