NJCAA DIVISION ONE
FINAL FOUR: FIRST BERTH – The 8 seeds – the RANGER COLLEGE RANGERS – took on the top seeded NORTHWEST FLORIDA STATE RAIDERS. Stifling defense was the theme of the opening Half, which ended with the Rangers chasing the Raiders 29-26. From there Ranger College outscored Northwest Florida State 40-34 for a comeback win in this 66-63 Upset. Jaren English led the Rangers with 24 points.
FINAL FOUR: SECOND BERTH – In this game the 4th seeded COFFEYVILLE COLLEGE RED RAVENS did battle with the 5 seeds – the NORTH CENTRAL MISSOURI PIRATES. A 32-31 Halftime edge for the Pirates wound up as a 60-60 tie to end Regulation. In Overtime the Red Ravens emerged with a 67-66 triumph. Keon Queen led Coffeyville with a Double Double of 16 points and 10 rebounds.
FINAL FOUR: THIRD BERTH – The 3 seeds – the VINCENNES UNIVERSITY TRAILBLAZERS – faced the 6th seeded ODESSA COLLEGE WRANGLERS. The Trailblazers were dominating the Wranglers on both sides of the ball for a 40-21 lead at the break. From there Vincennes U coasted to a 72-60 triumph. Leading the way for the Trailblazers was Keith Clemons with 17 points.
FINAL FOUR: LAST BERTH – Fighting it out for this last berth in the 2019 Final Four were the 2nd seeded SOUTH PLAINS COLLEGE TEXANS and the 10 seeds – the EASTERN FLORIDA STATE TITANS. The Texans grabbed a healthy 45-29 midpoint break, then held on for an 82-74 victory. Twenty-three points from Chris Orlina led South Plains College.
NJCAA DIVISION TWO
FINAL FOUR: FIRST BERTH – A 2 seed versus 10 seed clash started the action for Division 2 of the NJCAA. The (2) JOHNSON COUNTY COLLEGE CAVALIERS took the court against the (10) LAKELAND COLLEGE LAKERS. In this game for the ages the Cavaliers held a slender 43-41 Halftime edge before hanging on by their fingernails to win it 73-72. JaQuaylon Mays tossed in 20 points to lead Johnson County College.
FINAL FOUR: SECOND BERTH – The top seeded KIRKWOOD COLLEGE EAGLES found themselves squaring off against the 9 seeds – the NIAGARA COUNTY COLLEGE THUNDER WOLVES. The Eagles parlayed a 35-31 lead over the Thunder Wolves at the break into an 80-65 victory. Doug Wilson led Kirkwood College with his 22 points.
FINAL FOUR: THIRD BERTH – An Upset was in the offing in this game which pitted the 14 seeds – the CECIL COLLEGE SEAHAWKS – against the 11th seeded JOHN WOOD COLLEGE TRAIL BLAZERS. The Seahawks put the Trail Blazers on Upset Alert at Halftime with a 48-43 lead before carrying through with a 90-88 triumph. Jacob Falko’s 26 points led Cecil College in scoring.
FINAL FOUR: LAST BERTH – Rounding out the Final Four was the winner of this battle between the 4th seeded ERIE COLLEGE KATS and the 5 seeds – the MILWAUKEE AREA TECH STORMERS. The Kats managed a 42-36 advantage by the break, then expanded that into a 95-80 defeat of the Stormers. Erie College was led by Kyle Harris with 19 points.
NAIA DIVISION ONE
DAY TWO, GAME ONE – The MID-AMERICA CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY EVANGELS played the TOUGALOO COLLEGE BULLDOGS yesterday. The Evangels proclaimed their intention to upset the Bulldogs with a 39-35 Halftime lead. From there Mid-America Christian University got a bit more separation to win the game 73-64. Seventeen points from Anthony Black led the Evangels.
DAY TWO, GAME TWO – Up next the UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE & ARTS OF OKLAHOMA DROVERS went head to head with THE MASTER’S UNIVERSITY MUSTANGS. The Drovers were on top of the Mustangs 30-28 at the break. After that USAO inched away just enough to defeat TMU by a final tally of 78-75. Dedrian Parmer put up 25 points to lead the way for the Drovers.
DAY TWO, GAME THREE – This game pitted the OKLAHOMA CITY UNIVERSITY STARS against the STILLMAN COLLEGE TIGERS. The Stars got out to a healthy 59-43 advantage by the end of the opening Half. From there they kept the Tigers at arm’s length, going on to win the game by a Century Club-level score of 101-84. Chris Williams of Oklahoma City University led his team with 27 points.
DAY TWO, GAME FOUR – The WILLIAM CAREY UNIVERSITY CRUSADERS took on the PERU STATE BOBCATS for the right to advance to the next round. A 48-43 Crusaders lead at the midpoint of the game ultimately turned into a 95-89 defeat of the Bobcats. Cameron Douglas notched 19 points to lead William Carey University.
DAY TWO, GAME FIVE – The clash between the BENEDICTINE COLLEGE RAVENS and the WESTMONT COLLEGE WARRIORS (should be the Guardians) came next. The Ravens were chasing the Warriors at Halftime by a score of 38-37 but came from behind for a 90-85 victory. Leading the way for Benedictine College was Jaiden Bristol with THIRTY-SIX points.
DAY TWO, GAME SIX – Following that came the UNIVERSITY OF PIKEVILLE BEARS doing battle with the TALLADEGA COLLEGE TORNADOES. A Bears lead of 38-34 brought the 1st Half to a close. Both teams put up 31 points in the 2nd Half as the University of Pikeville won the game 69-65. Chase Parsley led the Bears with his 19 points.
DAY TWO, GAME SEVEN – The CARROLL COLLEGE FIGHTING SAINTS played the UNIVERSITY OF SAINT THOMAS (TX) CELTS. The Celts were on top of the Fighting Saints 34-32 at the Half, but after the break Carroll College came storming from behind for a 71-65 triumph. Nineteen Points from Match Burnham led the Fighting Saints.
DAY TWO, GAME EIGHT – And lastly the WILEY COLLEGE WILDCATS tested themselves against the UNIVERSITY OF THE CUMBERLANDS PATRIOTS. The Wildcats scored 34 points in each Half, giving them a 34-22 advantage over the Patriots at the midpoint and a 68-56 victory over them at game’s end. The leading scorer for Wiley College was Traylin Prejean with a Double Double of 20 points and 10 rebounds.
