COLLEGE BASKETBALL NATIONAL TOURNAMENTS CONTINUE

USCAA DIVISION ONE

bryant and stratton college bobcatsDAY ONE, GAME ONE – The 3 seeds – the BRYANT & STRATTON (Buffalo) BOBCATS – played the 6th seeded CLINTON COLLEGE GOLDEN BEARS to tip off the Division One Tournament in the USCAA (United States Collegiate Athletic Association). By Halftime the Golden Bears had spooked the Bobcats with a 38-29 lead but after the break Bryant & Stratton came roaring from behind to win the game 80-73. Nicc (sic) Johnson’s 19 points led the Bobcats. 

Bluefield State Big Blues logoDAY ONE, GAME TWO – Up next the 7th seeded BLUEFIELD STATE BIG BLUES took on the 2 seeds – the STRATFORD UNIVERSITY CARDINALS. This was a defensive epic which had the Cardinals on top 27-24 at the Half before the Big Blues rallied. Bluefield State outscored Stratford 28-20 in the 2nd Half for a 52-47 Upset victory. Teyon Henry tossed in 15 points to lead the Big Blues. 

Oakwood AmbassadorsDAY ONE, GAME THREE – In the 4 spot the OAKWOOD UNIVERSITY AMBASSADORS tangled with the 5th seeded UNIVERSITY OF MAINE AT FORT KENT BENGALS. The Ambassadors had things well in hand by the break with a 37-21 lead. From there Oakwood University kept the Bengals at arm’s length for a 69-52 triumph led by Talik Talton’s Double Double of 17 points and 13 rebounds.

Florida National University ConquistadorsDAY ONE, GAME FOUR – The top seeds – the FLORIDA NATIONAL UNIVERSITY CONQUISTADORS – squared off against the 8th seeded BRYANT & STRATTON (Albany) BOBCATS. The Conquistadors held a 30-26 Halftime lead then proceeded to get more and more separation from the Bobcats. Florida National University won the game 66-51 with Nico Rojas’ Double Double of 26 points and 14 rebounds leading the way.

NCCAA DIVISION TWO

Great Lakes Christian College CrusadersDAY ONE, GAME ONE – The 4th seeded GREAT LAKES CHRISTIAN COLLEGE CRUSADERS did battle with the 5 seeds – the ARLINGTON BAPTIST UNIVERSITY PATRIOTS to start the Tourney in the NCCAA (National Christian College Athletic Association). The Crusaders led the Patriots 33-26 at the midpoint following which both teams put up 43 points in the 2nd Half as Great Lakes Christian College won it 76-69. Twenty points from Isiah Reed to lead the Crusaders. 

Maranatha Baptist Logo bigDAY ONE, GAME TWO – The 8 seeds – the MARANATHA BAPTIST UNIVERSITY SABERCATS – knocked off the top seeded RANDALL UNIVERSITY SAINTS. By Halftime the Sabercats held an UNBELIEVABLE 36-8 lead over the Saints, then consummated the Upset by a score of 73-62. David Lerma provided 27 points to lead Maranatha Baptist University.

Johnson (TN) RoyalsDAY ONE, GAME THREE – Up next the 3rd seeded JOHNSON UNIVERSITY ROYALS (Formerly the Preachers) took the court against the 6 seeds – the TRINITY BAPTIST COLLEGE EAGLES. The Royals were chasing the Eagles 31-28 at the break but wound up coming from behind to win the game by a final score of 76-60.

Grace Bible College Tigers BESTDAY ONE, GAME FOUR – Closing out Day One was this game pitting the 2 seeds – the GRACE CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY TIGERS – against the 7th seeded BOB JONES UNIVERSITY BRUINS. The Tigers held a 33-28 Halftime lead then exploded in the 2nd Half, ultimately burying the Bruins in a 74-52 beatdown. Caleb Anderson and Brandon Winchester-Jones led Grace Christian University with 14 points each.

NAIA DIVISION TWO

college of idaho coyoteDAY TWO, GAME ONE – The COLLEGE OF IDAHO COYOTES battled the VOORHEES COLLEGE TIGERS to start Day Two. The Coyotes were way out in front 43-28 by the midpoint of the game. In the 2nd Half the College of Idaho maintained their distance from the Tigers to win the game 87-74. Nate Bruneel’s 19 points led the Coyotes.

cornerstoneDAY TWO, GAME TWO – In a game that was strictly for the birds the CORNERSTONE UNIVERSITY GOLDEN EAGLES played the FRIENDS UNIVERSITY FALCONS. The Golden Eagles led comfortably 39-24 at the break but then had to hold on against a Falcons rally for a 69-63 victory. Cornerstone U’s Sam Vander Sluis led his team with a Double Double of 20 points and TWENTY-SEVEN rebounds.

Southwestern College Moundbuilders logoDAY TWO, GAME THREE – The SOUTHWESTERN COLLEGE MOUNDBUILDERS faced the AVE MARIA UNIVERSITY GYRENES in this contest. By Halftime the Moundbuilders were on top of the Gyrenes 41-31 before going on to win it by a final tally of 89-80. Cameron Hunt put up THIRTY-TWO points to lead Southwestern College. 

Marian University KnightsDAY TWO, GAME FOUR – The next game went medieval on our asses as the MARIAN UNIVERSITY KNIGHTS took the court against the MADONNA UNIVERSITY CRUSADERS. The Knights parlayed a 40-34 midpoint advantage into an 83-59 smackdown when all was said and done. Twenty points from Wes Stowers led Marian University.

Mount Vernon Nazarene CougarsDAY TWO, GAME FIVE – The MOUNT VERNON NAZARENE UNIVERSITY COUGARS faced the MONTREAT COLLEGE CAVALIERS. The Cougars led the Cavaliers 34-25 at the Half then got even more separation from them for a 76-63 victory. Jevon Knox led Mount Vernon Nazarene University with his 21 points.

Morningside Mustangs logoDAY TWO, GAME SIX – The MORNINGSIDE COLLEGE MUSTANGS stampeded the MAYVILLE STATE COMETS next. The Comets were never really in it as the Mustangs led them 48-26 at the break before polishing them off 90-55. Morningside College was led in scoring by Trey Brown’s 17 points. 

West Virginia Tech Golden Bears BETTERDAY TWO, GAME SEVEN – The WEST VIRGINIA TECH GOLDEN BEARS went head to head with the COLLEGE OF THE OZARKS BOBCATS. The Golden Bears held a 51-43 advantage at Halftime and from there they went on to defeat the Bobcats very comfortably 90-79. Junior Arrey put up 18 points to lead West Virginia Tech. 

Briar Cliff University Chargers logoDAY TWO, GAME EIGHT – The only Upset of Day Two in the NAIA came here. The BRIAR CLIFF UNIVERSITY CHARGERS found themselves facing the OLIVET NAZARENE UNIVERSITY TIGERS (Should be the Purple Tigers). The Chargers put the Tigers on Upset Alert by the break with their 57-43 lead, then carried through with a Century Club-level 103-88 win. FORTY-THREE points from Jay Wolfe led BCU.
