DIVISION TWO OVER DIVISION ONE – NCAA Division Two’s TRUMAN STATE BULLDOGS traveled to take on Division ONE’s VALPARAISO UNIVERSITY CRUSADERS. Though the Bulldogs trailed the Crusaders 7-6 at Halftime by the end of the 3rd Quarter they were on top 17-10. From there Truman State consummated the Upset with a 34-20 triumph.
KNOCKING OFF NUMBER TWO – Also in D2, the UNIVERSITY OF CENTRAL OKLAHOMA BRONCHOS (sic) hosted the number 2 team in the nation – the NORTHWEST MISSOURI STATE BEARCATS. A 7-0 1st Quarter lead for the Bronchos became 14-3 at the Half. The 4th Quarter opened with UCO holding a 28-3 advantage before winning the game 31-21.
NUMBER THREE FALLS ON THE SAME DAY – Staying in D2 for the moment, yesterday also saw the 23rd ranked COLORADO STATE AT PUEBLO THUNDER WOLVES visiting the number 3 TEXAS A&M AT COMMERCE LIONS. The defending National Champion Lions led 10-6 by the midpoint of the game but the Thunder Wolves went up 16-10 in the 3rd Quarter. In the 4th CSU-Pueblo outscored the champs 7-3 for a 23-13 victory.
DOWN GOES NUMBER EIGHT – Over in the NAIA the ROBERT MORRIS UNIVERSITY (IL) EAGLES welcomed the number 8 team in the country – the CONCORDIA (MI) CARDINALS. This game was a defensive epic which went scoreless until the 3rd Quarter when the Eagles notched 7 points. That wound up being all the scoring for the entire game as RMU-Illinois toppled the Cardinals by a baseball score of 7-0.
NJCAA NUMBER TWO TOPPLED – The 7th ranked GARDEN CITY COLLEGE BRONCBUSTERS faced the visiting number 2 IOWA WESTERN COLLEGE REIVERS yesterday. After a scoreless 1st Quarter the Broncbusters led 7-6 at the break. The Reivers went on top 13-10 in the 3rd Quarter before Garden City College came back for a 16-13 victory.
NCCAA OVER THE NCAA – The VIRGINIA UNIVERSITY OF LYNCHBURG DRAGONS from the NCCAA (National Christian College Athletic Association) took the field against the visiting NCAA D3 team the BREVARD COLLEGE TORNADOS. A 7-7 Halftime tie became a 13-7 edge for the Dragons to end the 3rd Quarter. VUL made it a 16-7 game early in the 4th and from there 16-14 was the closest the Tornados could get in this Dragons win.
NINETY-ONE – In NCAA Division Three the SAINT NORBERT COLLEGE GREEN KNIGHTS welcomed the GRINNELL COLLEGE PIONEERS (should be the Red Barons). The Green Knights led the Pioneers 35-0 in the 1st Quarter and 56-0 at the Half. They never looked back on their way to a NINETY-ONE to NOTHING massacre.
USCAA GAME OF THE WEEK – The DEAN COLLEGE BULLDOGS took it on the road against the BECKER COLLEGE HAWKS in the Game of the Week in the USCAA (United States Collegiate Athletic Association). The Bulldogs trailed 7-6 in the 1st Quarter but were on top 22-15 by the break. From there Dean College dominated for a 42-15 victory.

NO SUCH THING AS BEGINNERS’ LUCK – The OTTAWA UNIVERSITY (AZ) SPIRIT are in their very first year of intercollegiate football. Yesterday the Spirit hosted the established LYON COLLEGE SCOTS and seized a quick 14-0 lead. Ottawa U converted that into a 37-3 Halftime advantage, then coasted to an unbelievable FIFTY-ONE to ELEVEN blowout!
HAPPY HOMECOMINGS – The SAINT AMBROSE UNIVERSITY FIGHTING BEES celebrated Homecoming by defeating the MISSOURI BAPTIST UNIVERSITY SPARTANS in a 25-20 Instant Classic ### And the OKLAHOMA PANHANDLE STATE AGGIES (should be the Okies) won an even tighter 20-17 clash with the WAYLAND BAPTIST UNIVERSITY PIONEERS (should be the Flying W’s).
UNHAPPY HOMECOMING – The DORDT COLLEGE DEFENDERS took it on the road against the HASTINGS COLLEGE BRONCOS, who were celebrating Homecoming. The Defenders rained on the Broncos’ parade with a 24-3 Halftime lead, then converted that into a 55-17 final score in this laugher.
BLOWOUTS – The SOUTHWESTERN COLLEGE MOUNDBUILDERS dismembered the visiting BETHANY COLLEGE SWEDES to the tune of 52-7 ### The (24) MONTANA TECH OREDIGGERS won a 54-9 game against the UNIVERSITY OF MONTANA-NORTHERN LIGHTS ### And the (14) KANSAS WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY COYOTES crushed the OTTAWA (KS) UNIVERSITY BRAVES 70-24.
MARATHON GAME OF THE DAY – This distinction goes to the Frontier Conference clash between the EASTERN OREGON UNIVERSITY MOUNTAINEERS and the (22) UNIVERSITY OF MONTANA-WESTERN BULLDOGS. The 4th Quarter ended in a 41-41 tie. From there it took not just one, not just two, but THREE Overtimes before the Mountaineers emerged with a 54-51 triumph.

OTHER UPSETS IN THE TOP TWENTY-FIVE – In addition to numbers 2 & 3 falling on Saturday the WASHBURN UNIVERSITY ICHABODS took on the visiting (16) UNIVERSITY OF CENTRAL MISSOURI MULES and defeated them 28-21 ### Meanwhile the CHADRON STATE EAGLES toppled the (20) COLORADO MESA UNIVERSITY MAVERICKS in their own house 38-34.
WORKIN’ OVERTIME – The ADAMS STATE GRIZZLIES and their hosts the WESTERN STATE MOUNTAINEERS were knotted up at 49-49 to end the 4th Quarter. In the extra session the Grizzlies emerged with a 55-52 victory. ### And the SAGINAW VALLEY STATE CARDINALS edged the WAYNE STATE WARRIORS 35-29 in their own Overtime affair.
HILLSDALE HOMECOMING – The storied HILLSDALE COLLEGE CHARGERS marked their 2018 Homecoming with a game against the LAKE ERIE COLLEGE STORM. The Chargers were on top of the Storm 17-7 by Halftime and after the break took complete control. The final score in this blowout was Hillsdale College 41 Lake Erie College 7.
ALL-NAME GAMES – The DIXIE STATE TRAILBLAZERS snuck past the visiting SOUTH DAKOTA M&T HARDROCKERS in a 51-47 shootout ### Meanwhile the (11) UNIVERSITY OF WEST FLORIDA ARGONAUTS beat their hosts the MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE CHOCTAWS 34-21 ### And the ARKANSAS TECH WONDERBOYS defeated the SOUTHERN NAZARENE UNIVERSITY CRIMSON STORM 24-10.

NUMBER TWO SURVIVES A SCARE – The number 2 team in the nation – the CAMPBELLSVILLE UNIVERSITY TIGERS – welcomed the POINT UNIVERSITY SKYHAWKS on Saturday. The Tigers trailed the Skyhawks 16-14 at Halftime and 29-16 to end the 3rd Quarter. Campbellsville U rallied in the 4th for a 30-29 comeback win.
LIONS OFF THE SCHNEID – The TRINITY BIBLE COLLEGE LIONS got off the schneid for 2018 when they took the field against the visiting LEWIS-CLARK VALLEY COLLEGE LOGGERS. The Lions’ 15-0 1st Quarter lead was cut to 15-14 by the midpoint of the game. Trinity Bible College went up 21-14 in the 3rd Quarter then held on to win it 21-20.
EAGLES FLYING HIGH – The 12th ranked UNIVERSITY OF NORTHWESTERN (MN) EAGLES traveled to face the CROWN COLLEGE STORM. A 3-0 1st Quarter edge for the Eagles became a 24-12 lead by the break. From there UNW outscored the Storm 14-6 for an authoritative 38-18 triumph.
LANGSTON NIGHTS – The NAIA’s (13) LANGSTON UNIVERSITY LIONS played host to the NCCAA’s SOUTHWESTERN ASSEMBLIES OF GOD UNIVERSITY LIONS. In this case of Lion on Lion violence SAGU led 6-0 at the Half but Langston U turned the tables by grabbing a 14-13 edge headed into the 4th Quarter. An action-packed final frame ended in a 35-20 victory for Langston.

OVERTIME SCARES IN THE TOP TWENTY-FIVE – No ranked teams were upset in D3 yesterday but a pair of programs needed OT to prevail. The (24) FRANKLIN & MARSHALL COLLEGE DIPLOMATS (“oh, that word”) defeated their guests the SUSQUEHANNA UNIVERSITY RIVERHAWKS 14-7 in the extra session ### And a 35-35 tie to end Regulation became a 38-35 road win for the (17) BERRY VIKINGS over the CENTRE COLONELS.
ONE-POINT WONDER – The LAKE FOREST COLLEGE FORESTERS took the field against the visiting LAWRENCE UNIVERSITY VIKINGS. The Foresters trailed Lawrence U 10-7, 24-14 and 27-14 in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Quarters respectively. Lake Forest College exploded in the 4th Quarter for a 35-34 comeback win.
SHUTOUTS – The CONCORDIA (Moorhead) COBBERS welcomed the HAMLINE UNIVERSITY PIPERS and proceeded to eviscerate them by a score of FIFTY-FIVE to NOTHING ### Meanwhile the MCDANIEL COLLEGE GREEN TERROR notched a 25-0 road win over the GETTYSBURG COLLEGE BULLETS ### And the BETHEL (MN) ROYALS defeated the GUSTAVUS ADOLPHUS COLLEGE GUSTIES 31-0.
UNDER THE RADAR CLASSIC – The SOUTHERN VIRGINIA UNIVERSITY KNIGHTS found themselves on the road against the KEAN UNIVERSITY COUGARS on Saturday. The Knights led the Cougars 7-3 come Halftime. In the 2nd Half, Southern Virginia University – often called “the BYU of the East” – outscored Kean 7-6 for a 14-9 victory.

MORE UPSETS IN THE TOP FIVE – In addition to the aforementioned Garden City win over Iowa Western the 8th ranked SCOTTSDALE COLLEGE FIGHTING ARTICHOKES toppled the number 3 SNOW COLLEGE BADGERS 44-28 ### And the KILGORE COLLEGE RANGERS dragged down the 4th ranked NORTHEASTERN OKLAHOMA A&M GOLDEN NORSEMEN in a 31-24 Instant Classic.
EIGHTY-TWO – The (11) HUTCHINSON COLLEGE BLUE DRAGONS took the field against the visiting REZOLUTION (sic) ACADEMY WILDCATS last night. The Blue Dragons seized a quick 28-0 lead in the 1st Quarter and never looked back on their way to a resounding EIGHTY-TWO to NOTHING beatdown of their opponents.
ROAD WARRIORS – The NORTHLAND COLLEGE PIONEERS traveled to face the MINNESOTA TECHNICAL COLLEGE SPARTANS and handed them a 36-14 drubbing ### Meanwhile the MESABI RANGE COLLEGE NORSE won a tight 30-26 clash with the FOND DU LAC TRIBAL COLLEGE THUNDER ### And the (14) BUTLER (KS) GRIZZLIES won a 33-30 Double Overtime game at the DODGE CITY COLLEGE CONQUISTADORS.
SHUTOUT – The FORT SCOTT COLLEGE GREYHOUNDS were really feeling their oats yesterday in their road game against the INDEPENDENCE COLLEGE PIRATES. The Greyhounds led the Pirates 14-0 in the opening Quarter and 17-0 at Halftime. When all was said and done Fort Scott College won a 33-0 laugher.
