PENULTIMATE GAME: The 2nd seeded FAULKNER UNIVERSITY EAGLES needed to defeat the 5 seeds – the LEWIS-CLARK STATE WARRIORS – in order to force a deciding game the next day. A 1-0 1st Inning lead for the Eagles stood unchanged until the 4th, when it became a 2-1 advantage. The Warriors responded with a huge 5th Inning which saw them take the lead by a score of 5-2. Faulkner University shut out Lewis-Clark State from there while cutting their lead down to 5-3 in the 6th Inning and 5-4 in the 8th. The Eagles drove in 2 runs in the 9th for a 6-5 victory behind the pitching of Austin Moreland.
*** NCAA DIVISION TWO ***
DAY SIX, FIRST SEMIFINAL: The UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA AT SAN DIEGO TRITONS took the diamond against the SAINT THOMAS AQUINAS COLLEGE SPARTANS. After a scoreless 1st Inning the Tritons grabbed a 2-0 edge in the 2nd and a 4-0 advantage in the 3rd. That set the pattern for the game as UC-San Diego scored in every remaining Inning except the 8th while simultaneously shutting out the Spartans. The Tritons eviscerated their opponents to the tune of TEN to NOTHING courtesy of a complete Iron Man Game by Pitcher Kyle Goodbrand.
DAY SIX, SECOND SEMIFINAL: Fighting for the other berth in the title game were the WEST CHESTER UNIVERSITY GOLDEN RAMS and the COLORADO MESA UNIVERSITY MAVERICKS. This was a Pitcher’s Duel pretty much from start to finish. Only 1 run was scored the entire game and that was by the Golden Rams in the 3rd Inning. Overall, West Chester University left 3 men stranded on base while the Mavericks left a stunning 7 men stranded. Pitcher Eric Close picked up the win.
*** NJCAA DIVISION ONE ***
DAY SIX, FIRST SEMIFINAL: The CHIPOLA COLLEGE INDIANS did battle with the WABASH VALLEY COLLEGE WARRIORS in this game. After 2 scoreless Innings the Indians went up 3-0 in the 3rd. That became a 4-0 lead in the 4th but the Warriors knotted things up at 4-4 in the 5th Inning. After that Chipola College drove in 8 more runs to the 3 scored by Wabash Valley. The Indians won the game by a final score of 12-7 with Andrew Grogan on the mound.
DAY SIX, SECOND SEMIFINAL: Up next the SAN JACINTO-NORTH COLLEGE GATORS faced the COWLEY COUNTY COLLEGE TIGERS for the right to face Chipola in the championship game. The Gators thoroughly dominated the Tigers all the way, leading them 3-0 in the 1st Inning and 6-2 in the 2nd on their way to a FOURTEEN to THREE dismemberment of their opponents. The winning Pitcher in this one-sided affair was MacGregor Hines.
*** NJCAA DIVISION TWO ***
DAY SIX, FIRST SEMIFINAL: This game pitted the MERCER COUNTY COLLEGE VIKINGS against the LANSING COLLEGE STARS. After a scoreless 1st Inning the Stars went on top 2-0 in the 2nd. As it turned out, though, they would never score again. The Vikings made it a 2-2 game in the 4th Inning, then added runs in the 5th, 7th and 8th for a 9-2 rout. Dennis Brady was the winning Pitcher for Mercer County College.
DAY SIX, SECOND SEMIFINAL: In the final game of the day the KANKAKEE COLLEGE CAVALIERS took on the PARKLAND COLLEGE COBRAS. The Cavaliers led the Cobras by a score of 6-1 in the 2nd Inning and 9-3 in the 4th. From there Kankakee College coasted to a THIRTEEN to THREE beatdown of Parkland College. On the mound for the Cavaliers was Devin Peters.
