USCAA COLLEGE BASEBALL CHAMPS CROWNED PLUS MORE

*** USCAA ***

College of Saint Joseph's Fighting Saints BIGDAY FOUR, GAME ONE: The 2nd seeded Defending National Champions of USCAA baseball – the COLLEGE OF SAINT JOSEPH’S (sic) FIGHTING SAINTS – did battle with the 5th seeded CLEARY UNIVERSITY PROWLING COUGARS. The winner would go on to face Newport News Apprentice School for the championship.

This was a Pitcher’s Duel for 4 scoreless Innings before the Fighting Saints went up 4-0 in the 5th. College of St Joseph’s added another run in the 6th Inning and rode that to a 5-0 shutout victory. Jovan Henriquez pitched the entire game for CSJ.

College of Saint Joseph's Fighting Saints BIGDAY FOUR, GAME TWO: This is a Double Elimination Tournament, so since the 4th seeded NEWPORT NEWS APPRENTICE SCHOOL BUILDERS were undefeated the COLLEGE OF SAINT JOSEPH’S FIGHTING SAINTS – with 1 loss already – would have to beat them twice.

The Builders grabbed a 3-0 lead in the 2nd Inning and that advantage held up through the next 2 Innings until CSJ knotted things up at 3-3 in the 5th. The 6th and 7th Innings saw the defending champs add 5 and runs, respectively, for a commanding 11-3 lead. In the bottom of the 9th Newport News Apprentice School could muster only 1 run as the Fighting Saints won it 11-4. Pitcher Russ Krebs notched the W.

College of Saint Joseph's Fighting Saints BIGCHAMPIONSHIP GAME: In fine dramatic fashion it all came down to this game. Adding even more oomph to the matchup was the fact that this deciding game was pitting the 2015 USCAA National Champions – the NEWPORT NEWS APPRENTICE SCHOOL BUILDERS – against the 2016 champs in the COLLEGE OF SAINT JOSEPH’S FIGHTING SAINTS.

CSJ grabbed a quick 1-0 edge in the 1st Inning. Neither team scored again until the 5th, when the Fighting Saints extended their lead to 5-0. The Builders finally got on the scoreboard with 1 run in the 6th Inning but College of St Joseph’s matched that run with 1 of their own in their half of the Inning. That ended the scoring as CSJ won the championship by a score of 6-1 behind Pitcher Powers, who went all 9 Innings. * THE FIGHTING SAINTS ARE USCAA BASEBALL CHAMPIONS
