NAIA OVER NCAA – The lone NAIA vs NCAA battle this week saw the NAIA’s PRESENTATION COLLEGE SAINTS welcome the FINLANDIA UNIVERSITY LIONS out of the NCAA. The Saints showed the Lions how football is played, eviscerating them by a score of SEVENTY-FOUR to NOTHING! So far in 2016 the NAIA has won three weeks, the NCAA has won one week and two weeks have been a tie.
USCAA GAME OF THE WEEK – Meanwhile in the USCAA (United States Collegiate Athletic Association) the WILLIAMSON COLLEGE OF THE TRADES MECHANICS took the field against the visiting GATTACA (NJ) COLLEGE STRAYERS. The Mechanics dominated in the game, doubling up on Gattaca College 28-14.
NUMBER EIGHT TAKES A FALL – In a duel between two Frontier Conference rivals the 16th ranked EASTERN OREGON UNIVERSITY MOUNTAINEERS traveled to face the number 8 SOUTHERN OREGON UNIVERSITY RAIDERS. The Mountaineers wound up prevailing in this tussel, upsetting the storied Raiders by a final count of 39-29.
NCCAA GAME OF THE WEEK – The Game of the Week in the NCCAA (National Christian College Athletic Association) pitted the MORTHLAND COLLEGE PATRIOTS against the TRINITY BIBLE COLLEGE LIONS. The Patriots quickly swashbuckled their way to an 8-0 1st Quarter lead, igniting a shootout that ended in a 66-40 victory for Morthland College.
*** NAIA ***
OTHER UPSETS IN THE TOP TWENTY-FIVE – The (15) KANSAS WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY COYOTES took the (12) TABOR COLLEGE BLUE JAYS into Overtime before toppling them 45-42 ### Meanwhile the VALLEY CITY STATE VIKINGS notched a 41-22 road upset of the (19) DAKOTA STATE TROJANS ### And the WILLIAM PENN UNIVERSITY STATESMEN marked Homecoming by upsetting the (22) PERU STATE BOBCATS by a polo score of 13-9.
A DOUBLE-SHOT OF THAT OT LOVE – The ROBERT MORRIS UNIVERSITY (IL) EAGLES (should be the Wind Eagles) welcomed the TRINITY INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY TROJANS yesterday. Four Quarters wasn’t enough for these two teams. One Overtime session wasn’t enough, either. In DOUBLE OVERTIME the Eagles emerged with a 34-27 triumph.
UNDER THE RADAR CLASSICS – The UNIVERSITY OF SAINT FRANCIS (IL) FIGHTING SAINTS took on the visiting DAVENPORT UNIVERSITY PANTHERS and edged them in a 24-21 thriller ### Meanwhile the BETHEL (TN) WILDCATS won a 59-53 road shootout with the CAMPBELLSVILLE UNIVERSITY TIGERS ### And the FRIENDS FALCONS defeated the MCPHERSON COLLEGE BULLDOGS (should be Mastiffs) 21-19.
ONE TEAM WAS PLAYING BASKETBALL – This week’s game that fit this category was the battle between the NORTHWESTERN (IA) COLLEGE RED RAIDERS and their guests the DORDT COLLEGE DEFENDERS. The Red Raiders exploded against the Defenders, annihilating them to the tune of SIXTY-FOUR to SIXTEEN!
TRICK OF THE EYE – The scores in these two games seem identical if you look at them too quickly: The ARIZONA CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY FIRESTORM clobbered the TEXAS COLLEGE STEERS 57-7 ### And the UNIVERSITY OF THE CUMBERLANDS PATRIOTS manhandled the KENTUCKY CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY KNIGHTS in a 52-7 affair.
HAPPY HOMECOMINGS – The STERLING COLLEGE WARRIORS celebrated Homecoming by winning a 70-56 shootout with the BETHEL (KS) THRESHERS ### Meanwhile the BETHANY COLLEGE SWEDES defeated the SOUTHWESTERN COLLEGE MOUNDBUILDERS by a final tally of 28-20 ### And the TAYLOR UNIVERSITY TROJANS topped the SIENA HEIGHTS UNIVERSITY SAINTS 21-14.
*** NCAA DIVISION TWO ***
UPSETS IN THE TOP TWENTY-FIVE – The unranked UNIVERSITY OF WEST ALABAMA TIGERS took it on the road against the number 17 UNIVERSITY OF WEST GEORGIA WOLVES and spanked them 31-7 ### And the WASHBURN UNIVERSITY ICHABODS (love that name) toppled the visiting 23rd ranked FORT HAYS STATE TIGERS 30-24.
ALL-NAME GAMES – Contests between teams with incredibly cool nicknames included: The COLORADO STATE AT PUEBLO THUNDER WOLVES did battle with their guests the FORT LEWIS COLLEGE SKYHAWKS and defeated them 33-12 ### And the DELTA STATE STATESMEN won a 55-51 Instant Classic against the UNIVERSITY OF WEST FLORIDA ARGONAUTS.
ROAD WARRIORS – The PITTSBURG (KS) STATE GORILLAS found themselves on the road against their MIAA rivals the UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI-WESTERN GRIFFONS. These familiar opponents played one of the best games of the day but in the end there could only be one winner: the Gorillas went back home with a 55-47 victory over the Griffons.
WE WENT TO A FOOTBALL GAME BUT A BASEBALL GAME BROKE OUT – The BENTLEY UNIVERSITY FALCONS paid a call on the AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL COLLEGE YELLOW JACKETS. Both defenses were clicking and limited the scoring by a cosmic degree. Yardage gains had to be measured with an electron microscope as the Falcsons won it 5-3.
*** NCAA DIVISION THREE ***
UPSETS IN THE TOP TWENTY-FIVE – The UTICA COLLEGE PIONEERS dragged down the (13) ST JOHN FISHER CARDINALS by a score of 23-6 ### The DENISON UNIVERSITY BIG RED edged the (15) WITTENBERG TIGERS 24-21 ### Meanwhile the COE COLLEGE KOHAWKS won 23-12 at the DUBUQUE SPARTANS ### And the BERRY COLLEGE VIKINGS downed their hosts the HENDRIX WARRIORS 24-14.
