MONTEREY ON THEIR WAY BACK? – The MONTEREY PENINSULA COLLEGE LOBOS hosted the YUBA COLLEGE FORTY-NINERS and showed signs of returning to their glory years. A 7-0 1st Quarter lead became a 13-0 Halftime advantage and ultimately a 25-0 shutout victory. Nathanael Heaukulani was one of the stars on Defense for the Lobos as he took an interception Endzone to Endzone for a TD.
RUSTLING UP A WIN – The GOLDEN WEST COLLEGE RUSTLERS took it on the road against the GLENDALE (CA) COLLEGE VAQUEROS. Neither team scored in the opening Quarter but by the break the Rustlers had made the Sartoris Field spectators very, very quiet with a 20-0 lead. Golden West College hung 13 more points on the Vaqueros the rest of the way for a 33-0 triumph. QB Adam Vance had 3 TD’s on just 158 yards passing.
THE RENEGADES HAD IT MADE – Well, not quite had it made, no matter what the old song says. The BAKERSFIELD COLLEGE RENEGADES faced the homestanding ALLAN HANCOCK COLLEGE BULLDOGS. The Renegades held a 16-0 advantage over the Bulldogs at the midpoint but AHC came out fighting in the 2nd Half. The storied Bakersfield College team won this exciting contest 22-19. TE Derrick Vickers had 157 all-purpose yards and 2 TD’s in the win.
INSTANT CLASSICS – The SOUTHWESTERN (CA) COLLEGE JAGUARS survived a late rally by their hosts the PALOMAR COLLEGE COMETS for a 34-28 victory. ### Meanwhile the SACRAMENTO CITY COLLEGE PANTHERS won a 28-25 nailbiter against the visiting SAN JOAQUIN DELTA COLLEGE MUSTANGS ### And the VENTURA COLLEGE PIRATES defeated the SANTA BARBARA CITY COLLEGE VAQUEROS by a final score of 47-40.
WORKING OVERTIME – Four Quarters weren’t enough for the CITRUS COLLEGE OWLS and the CHAFFEY COLLEGE PANTHERS. After a scoreless 1st Quarter the homestanding Owls led 14-6 at Halftime. The Panthers cut that to just a 28-22 edge for Citrus College at the end of the 3rd Quarter, then forced Overtime with a 41-41 tie. In the extra session the Owls put up 7 points then shut out Chaffey College for a 48-41 win.
BLOWOUTS – The GROSSMONT COLLEGE GRIFFINS clobbered their hosts the SAN DIEGO MESA COLLEGE OLYMPIANS in a 49-21 road victory ### Meanwhile the FULLERTON COLLEGE HORNETS stung the homestanding SANTA ANA COLLEGE DONS 56-17 ### And the MOUNT SAN ANTONIO COLLEGE MOUNTIES shut out their guests the SAN BERNARDINO VALLEY COLLEGE WOLVERINES to the tune of 40-0.
SHOOTOUT – The COLLEGE OF THE SEQUOIAS GIANTS (should be the Redwoods) welcomed the CONTRA COSTA COLLEGE COMETS. Points flew like shrapnel in this game which saw the Giants leading the Comets 34-20 at the break and ultimately winning by a final tally of 55-47. RB Elijah Porchia rushed for 178 yds and 3 TD’s for the College of the Sequoias.
