Comment: There is absolutely no truth to the stories that Alverno’s teams used to be called The Disco Inferno and had a character in a Saturday Night Fever outfit as a mascot.

Seriously, though, this nickname is so cool it just barely missed the cut in my D3 20 Coolest List. And you can insert your own Dante’s Inferno joke here. I like this approach of having your sports teams rhyme with your institution’s name. If we apply it to other schools we’d have the Embry-Riddle Fiddles, the Sioux Falls Screwballs and the Mid-Continent Incontinents.
