UC-CLERMONT RULES THE WORLD – The USCAA’s UNIVERSITY OF CINCINATTI AT CLERMONT COUGARS didn’t just upset the NCAA’s WILMINGTON COLLEGE QUAKERS, they completely dismembered them and burned the remains. A 2-2 tie in the 2nd Inning became a 9-2 lead for the Cougars by the time the 3rd Inning was over. UCC never looked back from there, going on to total the Quakers by a final score of 12-2.
THE ULTIMATE PITCHER’S DUEL – Ryan Hedges from the ALFRED STATE PIONEERS took on Derek Harkin from the SUNY- CANTON KANGAROOS in the most exciting battle of the mounds from yesterday’s action. The Kangaroos gave up one run in the opening Inning and that turned out to be all the scoring for the entire game! The Pioneers went home with a 1-0 victory.
EAGLE SPLIT – The ROBERT MORRIS (IL) UNIVERSITY EAGLES split a Double Header with the visiting CROWLEY’S RIDGE COLLEGE PIONEERS. The opening game was a 10-4 win with RMU putting up 5 runs each in the 2nd and 6th Innings to the total of 4 runs from the Pioneers. In the second game the Pioneers bounced back. The game was knotted up at 3-3 after 3 Innings of play and stayed that way until CRC busted things open with a 4-run 7th Inning to win a 7-3 thriller.
OFFENSIVE EXPLOSION – The AVE MARIA UNIVERSITY GYRENES impressed with their rout of the NORTHWOOD (FL) UNIVERSITY SEAHAWKS. A 1-0 Seahawk lead after one Inning became a 2-1 Gyrene advantage after the 3rd. That became a 6-1 AMU lead after the 7th Inning and a 9-4 lead after 8. A 6-run explosion in the 9th Inning gave the Gyrenes the win by a final score of 15-4.
AND SPEAKING OF OFFENSIVE EXPLOSIONS – The CORTLAND STATE RED DRAGONS crushed their namesakes – the ONEONTA STATE RED DRAGONS – in a pair of games yesterday. The first game saw Cortland State crush Oneonta State by a score of SEVENTEEN to NOTHING while the second game went little better for the struggling home team. 11-4 was the score in that followup game.
TIGHT DOUBLE HEADER – On the flip side of that Double Header the ITHACA COLLEGE BOMBERS won a pair of one-run affairs. The Bombers were visiting the SAINT JOHN FISHER CARDINALS and won the opening game 6-5. The second game went to an exhausting ELEVEN INNINGS and saw Ithaca College sneak by with a 7-6 triumph.
SHUTOUTS – Leading this category are the KEYSTONE COLLEGE GIANTS, who obliterated the homestanding STEVENSON MUSTANGS by an unbelievable score of NINETEEN to NOTHING ### The BABSON COLLEGE BEAVERS meanwhile held serve with a much closer 3-0 victory over the EMERSON LIONS ### And the ROCKFORD UNIVERSITY REGENTS battered the LAKELAND COLLEGE MUSKIES by a score of 10-0.
EXTRA INNINGS – The EUREKA COLLEGE RED DEVILS and the PRINCIPIA PANTHERS went to 10 Innings with the Red Devils exploding in the extra frame for a 20-10 triumph. ### The SOUTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY PIRATES won a much tighter 8-7 game in 10 Innings over the visiting UNIVERSITY OF DALLAS CRUSADERS. ### And the COLLEGE OF WOOSTER SCOTS took it on the road and defeated the OBERLIN COLLEGE YEOMEN in a 4-2 10 Inning affair.
