COLLEGE BASKETBALL – CONFERENCE AND NATIONAL TOURNAMENT RESULTS FROM MARCH 5th

USAO Drover newSOONER ATHLETIC CONFERENCE – The ever-tough UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE AND ARTS OF OKLAHOMA DROVERS have a well-earned reputation for being as proficient at sports as they are in the classroom. Last night the 6th seeded Drovers eliminated the 11th seeded SOUTHWESTERN CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY EAGLES by a score of 76-66   ###   Meanwhile in their Opening Round matchup the 8th seeded OKLAHOMA BAPTIST UNIVERSITY BISON scored a Century Club- level 103 points to the 76 notched by their opponents – 9th seeded TEXAS WESLEYAN RAMS   ###   And the 10th seeded NORTHWOOD (TX) KNIGHTS dragged the 7th seeded JOHN BROWN UNIVERSITY GOLDEN EAGLES (I say their teams should be called the Abolitionists) into Overtime before losing to them by a final score of 107-100. 

Evangel-LogoHEART OF AMERICA ATHLETIC CONFERENCE – The 4th seeded EVANGEL UNIVERSITY CRUSADERS trailed the 5th seeded CENTRAL METHODIST UNIVERSITY EAGLES for most of the game but tied it up to force TWO OVERTIME PERIODS. The Crusaders at last emerged with a 125-114 victory   ###   The 3rd seeded MIDAMERICA NAZARENE UNIVERSITY PIONEERS won an 87-80 battle royal with the 6th seeded MISSOURI VALLEY COLLEGE VIKINGS   ###   In the top spot the BENEDICTINE COLLEGE RAVENS bounced the 8th seeded BAKER UNIVERSITY WILDCATS  66-51   ###   And the 2nd seeded CULVER- STOCKTON COLLEGE WILDCATS joined the Century Club with their 105-89 triumph over the GRACELAND UNIVERSITY YELLOW JACKETS.    

UofM Ram iconSOUTHERN STATES ATHLETIC CONFERENCE – Just two games last night in the Opening Round for this conference. The (5West) UNIVERSITY OF MOBILE RAMS upset the (4East) SOUTHERN POLYTECHNIC STATE RUNNING HORNETS by a score of 90-80.   ###   And the (4West) BETHEL (TN) WILDCATS went into Overtime with the (5East) COLLEGE OF COASTAL GEORGIA MARINERS before defeating them in a 92-90 game for the ages. 

??????????????RED RIVER ATHLETIC CONFERENCE – In yesterday’s one and only game in this conference’s tournament the 3rd seeded OUR LADY OF THE LAKE UNIVERSITY SAINTS battled the 6 seeds – the BACONE COLLEGE WARRIORS – for the right to advance to the next round. The Saints were, as usual, an offensive juggernaut and entered the Century Club with the Warriors nearly making it there as well. The final score was Saints 120  Warriors 95. 

*** USCAA DIV ONE *** 

Washington Adventist University ShockRound One of the USCAA (United States Collegiate Athletic Association) National Tournament got underway yesterday for both divisions. In this game the 4th seeded WASHINGTON ADVENTIST UNIVERSITY SHOCK led the 5th seeded ROBERT MORRIS (IL) EAGLES at the break by a score of 38-33. In the second half they kept up the pressure and led by Anthony Berry’s 18 points defeated the Eagles by a final tally of 67-58. 

newportnewsApprentice-school-builderThe 7th seeded NEWPORT NEWS APPRENTICE SCHOOL BUILDERS shocked the country last night with their upset victory over the 2nd seeded defending champions, the ROCHESTER COLLEGE WARRIORS. The Builders trailed by a score of 30-27 at Halftime but mounted a thrilling comeback that gave them a 72-63 First Round triumph. Johnnie Ferebee led NNAS with 20 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists. 

Tennessee Temple University CrusadersIn another impressive upset from Day One action the 6th seeded TENNESEE TEMPLE UNIVERSITY CRUSADERS rivaled the feat of the Builders by toppling their opponents – the 3rd seeded VICTORY UNIVERSITY EAGLES. The Crusaders overcame a 37-31 Halftime deficit to tie the game up at 61-61 by the end of Regulation. In the Overtime period TTU eked out a 73-70 win to start tournament play with a bang! 

daemen wildcatsThe top seeded team in the USCAA national tourney, the DAEMEN COLLEGE WILDCATS, got almost more than they could handle from their First Round opponents, the 8th seeded CONCORDIA COLLEGE (AL) HORNETS. The Hornets had managed a hard-fought 40-38 lead at the break but in the Second Half Daemen College came roaring back. Stability returned to the USCAA hoops universe when the Wildcats advanced with a 95-79 victory.  

*** USCAA DIV TWO ***

Berkeley (NJ) KnightsTo start off the National Tournament for Division Two in the USCAA the 7th seeded BERKELEY COLLEGE (NJ) KNIGHTS took on the 10 seeds – the PSU- FAYETTE ROARING LIONS. After fumbling away a game-long lead and letting the Roaring Lions force Overtime the Knights reasserted themselves in the extra session, winning by a final score of 91-88. William Morton led the Knights with 24 points. 

 PSU systemAnd in the only other Opening Round game for the USCAA’s second division last night the 8th seeded PSU-BEAVER NITTANY LIONS squared off against the 9th seeded BERKELEY COLLEGE (NY) KNIGHTS. PSUB moved on in the winner’s bracket with their 76-68 victory, spearheaded by the 26 points tossed in by Rob Aqurs.

southplainscollegetexansREGION 105 – QUARTERFINALS – The SOUTH PLAINS COLLEGE TEXANS won by an unlucky 13 points yesterday in their 85-72 conquest of the COLLIN COLLEGE COUGARS   ###   The HOWARD COLLEGE (TX) HAWKS outdid the MCLENNAN COLLEGE HIGHLANDERS in a 98-91 orgy of offense   ###   The HILL COLLEGE REBELS and the WESTERN TEXAS COLLEGE WESTERNERS were tied at 70-70 with 2 minutes left in the game when a 7-0 run by the Rebels gave them a 77-70 win   ###   And the NEW MEXICO COLLEGE THUNDERBIRDS embarrassed the TEMPLE COLLEGE LEOPARDS by routing them 88-58.      

Motlow College BucksREGION 107 – QUARTERFINALS – The MOTLOW COLLEGE BUCKS won by a 10-spot against the CLEVELAND STATE COLLEGE COUGARS, defeating them by a final score of 78-68   ###   The WALTERS STATE SENATORS smacked down the JACKSON STATE COLLEGE GENERALS to the tune of 82-54   ###   Meanwhile the SOUTHWEST TENNESSEE SALUQIS scored a CENTURY CLUB- level 100 points to put away the ROANE STATE RAIDERS 100-91   ###   And the COLUMBIA STATE CHARGERS racked up an 89-76 win over the CHATTANOOGA STATE COLLEGE TIGERS. 

Brevard College TitansREGION 108 – QUARTERFINALS – This region boasted the closest games from top to bottom in yesterday’s action. The ST PETERSBURG STATE TITANS eked out a 74-70 victory over the MIAMI-DADE COLLEGE SHARKS   ###   The PENSACOLA STATE COWBOYS snuck past the DAYTONA STATE FALCONS by a score of 63-62   ###   The CHIPOLA COLLEGE INDIANS had a comparatively large 9 point margin of victory in their 82-73 triumph over the COLLEGE OF CENTRAL FLORIDA PATRIOTS, the defending national champions   ###   And the POLK STATE EAGLES edged the EASTERN FLORIDA STATE TITANS  69-68.   

Northeastern Plainsmen mascotREGION 109 – CHAMPIONSHIP GAME – The NORTHEASTERN COLLEGE PLAINSMEN went into battle with the GILLETTE COLLEGE PRONGHORNS in a contest between cool-named teams. When everything was said and done the Plainsmen emerged as the champions of Region 109 in a 119-110 Overtime blockbuster. 

Chattahoochee Valley College PiratesREGION 112 – QUARTERFINALS – The CHATTAHOOCHEE VALLEY COLLEGE PIRATES logged a 14 point victory over the SNEAD STATE PARSONS in their 84-70 victory   ###   The SOUTHERN UNION STATE BISON overpowered the WALLACE COLLEGE- SELMA PATRIOTS to the tune of 70-51   ###   The LAWSON STATE COUGARS won a much tighter 74-69 affair with the ENTERPRISE STATE BOLL WEEVILS   ###   And the BISHOP STATE WILDCATS took it to the MARION MILITARY INSTITUTE TIGERS in a 79-60 win. 

Angelina College RoadrunnersREGION 114 – QUARTERFINALS – In the upset of the day for this region the ANGELINA COLLEGE ROADRUNNERS shocked the NAVARRO COLLEGE BULLDOGS. The final score in this landscape changer was 82-76   ###   The KILGORE COLLEGE RANGERS defeated the PANOLA COLLEGE PONIES in a 73-71 Instant Classic   ###   Meanwhile the BLINN COLLEGE BUCCANEERS won a tight 77-74 hardcourt epic against the TYLER APACHES   ###   And the LEE COLLEGE REBELS registered a Century Club- level 105-98 victory over the JACKSONVILLE COLLEGE JAGUARS.

Chabot College GladiatorsNOR-CAL REGION – ROUND THREE – The 4th seeded CHABOT COLLEGE GLADIATORS got a wake-up call against the 12th seeded CABRILLO COLLEGE SEAHAWKS but held on for a 76-73 win   ###   The top seeded CITY COLLEGE OF SAN FRANCISCO RAMS meanwhile obliterated the 8 seeds – the BUTTE COLLEGE ROADRUNNERS – in an 80-44 laugher   ###   The 3rd seeded SANTA ROSA COLLEGE BEAR CUBS eliminated the 6th seeded OHLONE COLLEGE RENEGADES 67-60   ###   And the 2nd seeded FRESNO CITY COLLEGE RAMS bounced the 7th seeded CONSUMNES RIVER COLLEGE HAWKS by a score of 71-66. 

Cerritos College logoSO-CAL REGION – ROUND THREE – The 8th seeded CERRITOS COLLEGE FALCONS pulled off the upset of the tournament thus far by toppling the 1 seeds – the ANTELOPE VALLEY COLLEGE MARAUDERS. The Falcons advanced in a 77-75 Instant Classic   ###   The 2nd seeded SAN BERNARDINO VALLEY COLLEGE WOLVERINES dispatched the 7th seeded GLENDALE (CA) VAQUEROS in an equally tight 67-65 affair   ###   The 4th seeded CHAFFEY COLLEGE PANTHERS defeated the 12th seeded PASADENA COLLEGE LANCERS by a score of 79-71   ###   And the 3rd seeded MT SAN JACINTO COLLEGE EAGLES eviscerated the 11th seeded CITRUS COLLEGE OWLS  92-61.

    THANK YOU for this. We work at a radio station and we have a hard time finding scores for these divisions.
