NJCAA DIVISION TWO BASEBALL TEAMS MOVING ON TO THE COLLEGE WORLD SERIES

Tomorrow the College World Series begins in the NAIA and in D3, but for today here’s a look at teams from Division 2 of the NJCAA that won their District Championships and are advancing to their own Series.

EAST DISTRICT – The UCONN-AVERY POINT POINTERS (38-8) took the district title with a masterful 12-7 victory over the MONROE TRIBUNES in the championship game. Other teams left waiting for next year from the East District were the MERCYHURST NORTHEAST SAINTS, the ROCKLAND COLLEGE HAWKS, the WESTCHESTER VIKINGS and the COLLEGE OF RHODE ISLAND KNIGHTS.

MIDWEST DISTRICT – The HEARTLAND COLLEGE HAWKS (48-9) won the Midwest District by decimating the DANVILLE COLLEGE JAGUARS THIRTEEN to THREE! Also left in the wake of the Jaguars were the PARKLAND COLLEGE COBRAS, the LINCOLN COLLEGE LYNX, the ILLINOIS CENTRAL COLLEGE COUGARS and the LINCOLN LAND COLLEGE LOGGERS. 

NORTH DISTRICT – The GRAND RAPIDS COLLEGE RAIDERS (27-26) emerged with the North District crown. The Raiders took that crown with a pair of wins over the DELTA COLLEGE PIONEERS by scores of 8-3 and 3-0. Other teams who will be watching the World Series from home will be the JACKSON COLLEGE JETS, the LAKELAND COLLEGE LAKERS, the OWENS EXPRESS and the MUSKEGON COLLEGE JAYHAWKS.

NORTH CENTRAL DISTRICT – The MADISON COLLEGE WOLFPACK (39-11) defeated the KANKAKEE COLLEGE CAVALIERS in a 3-1 Instant Classic for the district title. The also rans from the North Central District were the PRAIRIE STATE PIONEERS, the BLACK HAWK COLLEGE BRAVES, the HIGHLAND COUGARS and the MCHENRY COLLEGE SCOTS.

NORTH PLAINS DISTRICT – From this district the NORTH IOWA COLLEGE TROJANS (29-16) won the championship by taking a 4-1 thriller from the DAKOTA TECH BLUE KNIGHTS. Teams that ultimately fell short were the WILLISTON STATE TETONS, the SOUTHEAST COLLEGE STORM, the IOWA CENTRAL TRITONS and the MILES COLLEGE PIONEERS.

NORTHEAST DISTRICT – The LACKAWANNA COLLEGE FALCONS (41-18) are the 2013 champions of the Northeast District after taking two games out of three from the CECIL COLLEGE SEAHAWKS. After losing Game One 9-8 the Falcons took the next two by scores of 10-5 and 2-1. In addition to Cecil College other teams from this district’s tournament were the BURLINGTON BARONS and the COLLEGE OF DUNDALK LIONS.

PLAINS DISTRICT – The MURRAY STATE COLLEGE AGGIES (41-21) walked away with the district title following a 14-7 double-up on the COLLEGE OF LONGVIEW LAKERS. Left behind with the Lakers were the HESSTON COLLEGE LARKS, the BROWN-MACKIE COLLEGE LIONS and the WENTWORTH MILITARY ACADEMY RED DRAGONS. 

SOUTH DISTRICT – The LOUISIANA STATE UNIVERSITY AT EUNICE BENGALS (48-8) won the South District championship with a 5-0 shutout of the PEARL RIVER COLLEGE WILDCATS. The Bengals move on, while other teams headed home were the NORTHWEST MISSISSIPPI RANGERS and the EAST CENTRAL COLLEGE FALCONS.

SOUTHEAST DISTRICT – Taking the title from this district were the BRUNSWICK COLLEGE DOLPHINS, who defeated the LENOIR COLLEGE LANCERS in the championship game by a score of 8-5. Other teams left behind were the PASCO HERNANDO CONQUISTADORS, the SOUTHEASTERN COLLEGE BLACKHAWKS, the SURRY KNIGHTS and the PATRICK HENRY COLLEGE PATRIOTS.

SOUTHWEST DISTRICT – The SCOTTSDALE FIGHTING ARTICHOKES returned to the College World Series by winning the best of three series to take the Southwest District championship. The Fighting Artichokes defeated the GATEWAY COLLEGE GECKOS 4-0, lost 3-1 then won the rubber game 5-3. Keeping the Geckos company as spectators will be the YAVAPAI COLLEGE ROUGHRIDERS, the CENTRAL ARIZONA COLLEGE VAQUEROS and the PHOENIX COLLEGE BEARS.
