COLLEGE FOOTBALL RESULTS FROM SEPTEMBER 3rd & 4th

* HEADLINES *

HELMETSURSINUSURSINUS RULES THE WORLD … KIND OF – The URSINUS COLLEGE BEARS from D3 were on the road against D2’s MILLERSVILLE UNIVERSITY MARAUDERS. After 4 embarrassing Quarters of football Regulation ended in a ZERO to ZERO tie. Multiple Field Goals and Overtime sessions later things stood at 9-9. At long last the Bears got a Touchdown and followed up with the 2-point conversion while shutting out the Marauders. Ursinus won this very odd game by a score of 17-9.  

Cumberlands_KYCUMBERLANDS COMES CLOSE – The NAIA’s UNIVERSITY OF THE CUMBERLANDS PATRIOTS came close to toppling D2’s CARSON-NEWMAN UNIVERSITY EAGLES. These two teams engaged in a textbook case of a shootout, with the homestanding Eagles holding on in the end for a tight three-point victory. The final score in this gridiron clash was Eagles 59  Patriots 56.  Continue reading

COLLEGE FOOTBALL RESULTS FROM AUGUST 29th

Marian Knights helmet newBATTLE IN THE TOP FIVE – The top ranked MARIAN UNIVERSITY KNIGHTS traveled to face the number 4 team in the nation – the SAINT XAVIER UNIVERSITY COUGARS. This crossover game in the Mid-States Football Association was all Marian most of the game. The Knights thoroughly dominated the Cougars and when all the dust had settled Marian University went back home boasting a FORTY-FIVE to THIRTEEN manhandling of SXU.

Baker University Wildcats NEWNUMBER SIX GETS TOPPLED – The number 15 BAKER UNIVERSITY WILDCATS were on the road against the 6th ranked GRAND VIEW UNIVERSITY VIKINGS yesterday. This game wound up being an undisputed Instant Classic that practically redefined the expression Smash-Mouth Football. The Wildcats pulled off the upset, dragging down the Vikings by a final tally of 20-15.   Continue reading

COLLEGE FOOTBALL RESULTS FROM AUGUST 22nd

No matter what ESPN says THIS was opening weekend for the 2015 College Football Season for plenty of 4-year and 2-year schools.

Dickinson State Blue Hawks helmet NEWBLUE HAWKS RESURGENT? – Everyone has been pointing to this as the season that the DICKINSON STATE BLUE HAWKS return to gridiron prominence. There’s a long way to go of course but at least the Blue Hawks got their 2015 campaign started on a triumphant note, defeating the visiting MONTANA STATE- NORTHERN LIGHTS in a very entertaining 17-7 battle.  

Edward Waters Tigers helmetMAIM CANADA – The EDWARD WATERS (FL) TIGERS welcomed Canada’s LANGARA COLLEGE FALCONS but left their guests questioning their lives. The Tigers dominated the team from Vancouver on both sides of the ball, folding, spindling and mutilating the hapless Falcons to the tune of SEVENTY-SIX to SEVEN!  Continue reading

BLUE DRAGONS PICKED TO REPEAT AS CONFERENCE CHAMPS

BlUE DRAGONSBIGGGGGGGGGThe preseason poll has selected the HUTCHINSON COLLEGE BLUE DRAGONS to repeat as Jayhawk Conference champions in 2015. Last year saw the Blue Dragons have the best season in team history and they fell just one game short of playing for the National Championship. Their lone loss of the season came against Iowa Western College, which wound up losing in the national title game.

Hutchinson Blue DragonsHutchinson College, meanwhile, won their first unshared Jayhawk Conference crown since 1996, won their 6th straight Salt City Bowl and are trying to repeat as conference champs for the first time since their Threepeat of 1948-1950.

Here’s how the preseason poll placed all eight teams in the Jayhawk Conference:

CHRIS BODEN NAMED NEW HEAD COACH FOR AVENGERS FOOTBALL

 Brooklyn, NY—-ASA College Offensive Coordinator Chris Boden has been promoted as the school’s second ever Head Football Coach.  He replaces Dennis Orlando who led the Avengers to the last three Northeast Football Conference championship games, two conference championships, two Bowl Games, the Carrier Dome Bowl Championship in 2013, and the Northeast Football Conference’s conference game winning-streak record (14 in a row).  Boden has been the program’s Offensive Coordinator since its inception in 2009.   Continue reading

COLLEGE FOOTBALL PLAYOFF RESULTS FROM DECEMBER 13th

* CCCAA CHAMPIONSHIP *

Mount San Antonio College MountiesCHAMPIONSHIP GAME – The MOUNT SAN ANTONIO COLLEGE MOUNTIES did battle with the CITY COLLEGE OF SAN FRANCISCO RAMS to see which one of these two storied programs could add another title to their haul. A 3-3 1st Quarter tie became a 13-10 advantage for the Mounties by Halftime. Mt San Antonio outscored the Rams 14-7 in the 3rd Quarter and, after a scoreless 4th the Mounties grabbed the championship with a 27-17 victory.  *** CONGRATULATIONS TO THE MOUNTIES ON THEIR FOURTH CCCAA CHAMPIONSHIP! *** 

* NCAA DIVISION TWO *

Minnesota State MavericksFIRST SEMIFINAL – The MINNESOTA STATE MAVERICKS had little trouble defeating the visiting CONCORD UNIVERSITY MOUNTAIN LIONS. Minnesota State led 30-7 at the break on their way to a 47-13 beatdown of the Mountain Lions. The Mavericks improve to 14-0 and move on to their first appearance in the D2 championship game.  Continue reading

COLLEGE FOOTBALL PLAYOFF AND BOWL RESULTS FROM DECEMBER 6th

* NJCAA CHAMPIONSHIP *

ALL THREE OF EAST MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE'S HELMETS

ALL THREE OF EAST MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE’S HELMETS

MISSISSIPPI BOWL – This Bowl was the National Championship Game this year and pitted the number 1 Defending Champions – the EAST MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE LIONS – against the 2nd ranked IOWA WESTERN COLLEGE REIVERS – who happen to be the 2012 NJCAA Champions. This clash of the most recent champions went the Lions’ way from start to finish. East Mississippi led 21-7 by Halftime and kept up the pressure in the 2nd Half, doubling up on the Reivers 34-17 for their 2nd title in a row and their 3rd in the last 4 years! * CONGRATULATIONS TO THE LIONS – THE NJCAA FOOTBALL CHAMPIONS FOR 2014! *

* NAIA PLAYOFFS *

Marian Knights helmet newFIRST SEMIFINAL – In a rematch of the 2012 National Championship Game the MARIAN UNIVERSITY KNIGHTS took on the homestanding MORNINGSIDE COLLEGE MUSTANGS. The end result was the same, too, with the Knights coming from behind for the win. Marian trailed 7-0 in the 1st Quarter and 21-14 at Halftime. After the break the Knights shut out the Mustangs while piling up points themselves, ultimately winning in a 41-21 rout. Marian QB Hayden Northern had 2 Touchdowns by air and 1 more on the ground.   Continue reading

COLLEGE FOOTBALL PLAYOFF AND BOWL RESULTS FROM NOVEMBER 29th

* NAIA PLAYOFFS *

Southern Oregon Raiders“DON’T START PLAYING TIL THE FOURTH QUARTER” – The SOUTHERN OREGON UNIVERSITY RAIDERS made THE road comeback of the season in the NAIA! In this Second Round playoff game the Raiders had traveled to face the top seeded CARROLL COLLEGE FIGHTING SAINTS. SOU trailed 28-12 by Halftime and 35-18 to end the 3rd Quarter before outscoring CC 27-7 in the 4th for a heart-pounding 45-42 come-from- behind victory! The Raiders had 4 TD’s by air and 3 on the ground.  

Marian Knights helmet newDEFENDING CHAMPS ELIMINATED – The MARIAN UNIVERSITY KNIGHTS pulled off the 2nd Round’s other big upset but did it in less nail-biting fashion. The Knights visited the defending champion GRAND VIEW UNIVERSITY VIKINGS and were in control from start to finish. A 7-0 Marian lead in the 1st Quarter became 13-0 at the break, then 20-6 in the 3rd. The Knights added 14 more points in the final frame for a tally of 34-6. QB Hayden Northern passed for 258 yds and 3 TD’s in the win. Continue reading
