HAPPY FRONTIERADO!

Well, you wait for it for months and now it’s finally here! Happy Frontierado to everyone. I know there are people who watch Silverado (the official Western of Frontierado) on Frontierado Eve and others who watch it the night of Frontierado itself. It’s this holiday‘s version of the Yuletide question “Do you open your gifts Christmas Eve or Christmas Morning?”

As a Frontierado gift to my readers here is my personal recipe for Tumbleweed Pizza, the perfect snack to go with Silverado and whatever second Western you watch.

Start with a few extra-large tortilla shells or round pita shells. Spread tomato paste and/or sauce around them, leaving as much crust room as you prefer. Spread shredded pepperjack cheese all over each shell until you completely cover the tomato paste/sauce. Add small slices of Nopolito Cactus (it will taste a lot like green peppers), red beans and bits of buffalo meat, or antelope, or rattlesnake or all three. Have the oven preheated to 350 degrees. Place each shell in the oven for approximately 15 minutes, or 20 minutes if you’re doing two shells at once. Then eat just like you would a regular pizza. For extra zesty Tumbleweed Pizza you can mix Salsa Sauce or Chipotle Sauce in with the tomato paste/sauce as well as adding Jalapeno Peppers if you like

T’WAS THE DAY BEFORE FRONTIERADO AND ALL THROUGH THE HOUSE…

It’s Frontierado Eve once again and I know all of you are planning your festivities for tonight and tomorrow! Previously I gave you the recipe for a Cactus Jack and now I’ll give you the recipe for another traditional Frontierado drink. It’s called a Deuces Wild and like a Cactus Jack it’s my own recipe.

To make a Deuces Wild you first combine 2 parts Tequila with 3 parts Squirt. Then you add 3 tablespoon scoops of watermelon and mix in a blender for about 20 seconds. You can drink it as is but if you want a Deuces Wild Black you add a few sprinkles of pepper. If you want a Deuces Wild Red you add a few sprinkles of cinammon.

THE WORLD SERIES OF FRONTIERADO POKER?

"You're not goin' nowhere, ya bottom-dealin' Hombre," the gambler-gunfighter exclaimed, "We've got us a few apparent paradoxes and their effect upon contemporary religious thought to discuss!"

As promised here are the rules for Frontierado Poker, the game that is strictly my own invention to go along with my made-up Holiday Frontierado.

1. Remove all face cards from the deck. The game is played with a 40-card deck.

2. Every player antes up. (I’m not advocating gambling. You can decide for yourselves what you play for.)

3. Each player is dealt 4 cards (the deal rotates like in Continue reading

JUST 9 MORE SHOPPING DAYS UNTIL FRONTIERADO!

What is Frontierado?  Frontierado is a holiday my family and I celebrate  each year. It’s a holiday I simply made up to fill the down time between The 4th of July and Labor Day. Frontierado celebrates the romantic myth of the Old West, as opposed to the gritty reality.

What does Frontierado meanI named the Holiday this because I think it sounds cool and the “frontier” part of the name captures the old west feel I’m going for.

How do you pronounce Frontierado?  I pronounce it frawn-teer-AW-do and since I invented the Holiday I can pronounce it however I like.

When is Frontierado?  Frontierado is the First Friday of August every year. Isn’t it a nice change of pace to have a three-day weekend that doesn’t have the holiday on a Monday?

How is Frontierado celebratedFrontierado is celebrated with a get-together with family and friends involving a meal (cooked outdoors or indoors, whatever you prefer) , Sagas, Frontierado Poker, Cactus Jacks and a viewing of the official Frontierado western, Silverado.

What are “Sagas” in the context of Frontierado? Christmas has Christmas Carol singing, Frontierado has Sagas. Sagas are fictional biographies of a Western character I invent for somebody after I familiarize myself with their personality and favorite subjects. You could do one yourself of course, or if you like I could Continue reading
