MICHIGAN STRIKES OUT AGAIN

In another one of those wonderful reality checks for Division 1 sports programs who think they’re still on top of the world despite all the evidence to the contrary the Michigan Wolverines just got rejected AGAIN by a former “Michigan Man”, in this case Les Miles. The Mad Hatter decided to pass on the opportunity to chew grass in the Big House 8 times a year and stayed at LSU. My comedy piece from last week about Michigan’s insane and outdated Schembechleresque obsession with finding a Michigan Man prompting them to bring Ex-President Gerald R Ford back from the dead to coach their team is even more relevant so here’s the link to it: https://glitternight.com/2011/01/08/pres-gerald-ford-returns-from-the-dead-to-coach-the-michigan-wolverines/

CACTUS BOWL KICKS OFF AT 7PM

The 2011 Cactus Bowl, the all-star game for NCAA Division 2 football, will be kicking off at 7PM Central Time. The game features 88 D2 senior standouts divided into two 44-man rosters (I advocated dividing them into eleven 8-man rosters but got shouted down) and is a great chance for D2 players who may well end up on NFL rosters to showcase themselves once more in a live game format. THE FIGHTING SAINTS DEFEAT THE WARHAWKS IN BALLADEER’S BOWL

In keeping with the rivalry between NAIA football teams and NCAA Division 3 football teams this week I ran a contest in which readers could e-mail me to vote for who they thought would win a game played between the NAIA champions, the CC Fighting Saints and the D3 champions, the Whitewater Warhawks. By a nearly two-to- one margin the NAIA fans have spoken and the Fighting Saints have won this inaugural Balladeer’s Bowl. Congratulations to the boys from Helena, MT! Balladeer’s Blog will resume chronicling the football rivalry between these two divisions in August.
