KNOCKING OFF NUMBER ONE – In NCAA Division Three the number 2 WHEATON COLLEGE THUNDER (John Belushi’s alma mater) visited the top ranked NORTH CENTRAL COLLEGE CARDINALS. Defense dominated the 1st Half as a Thunder Safety was the only score. The Cardinals went up 3-2 in the 3rd Quarter, but Wheaton College won out in the 4th 13-10.
TOPPLING NUMBER THREE – Up in the NAIA the 10th ranked MARIAN UNIVERSITY KNIGHTS hosted the number 3 team in the country – the INDIANA WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY WILDCATS. The Knights put Indiana Wesleyan on Upset Alert with their 17-14 edge at Halftime. Going into the 4th Quarter Marian University led 24-21 and held on for a 30-28 victory.
NUMBER FIVE TAKES A FALL – Over in NCAA Division Two the number 24 MICHIGAN TECH HUSKIES played the visiting 5th ranked GRAND VALLEY STATE LAKERS. By the Half, the Huskies were on top 21-14 but that became a 21-21 tie in the 3rd and a 35-35 deadlock to end regulation. In Overtime, Michigan Tech triumphed 41-35.
HILLSDALE HOMECOMING – Staying in NCAA D2 for a moment, the storied HILLSDALE COLLEGE CHARGERS welcomed the WALSH UNIVERSITY CAVALIERS. The Chargers led 14-0, 35-7 and 42-14 in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Quarters, respectively. The final tally in the 4th was Hillsdale 42 Cavaliers 27.

OTHER UPSETS IN THE RANKINGS – The (22) GEORGETOWN (KY) COLLEGE TIGERS traveled to face the (11) LINDSEY WILSON COLLEGE BLUE RAIDERS and defeated them 24-21 in Overtime ### And the DICKINSON STATE BLUE HAWKS won a 20-19 thriller at the (23) DAKOTA STATE TROJANS.
RED RIVER ROAD RUMBLE – In this game, the OKLAHOMA PANHANDLE STATE AGGIES (should be Okies) took it on the road against the NELSON UNIVERSITY LIONS. A 14-7 Lions lead in the opening Quarter turned into a 21-14 OPSU advantage come Halftime. Each team put up 14 points from there as the Aggies/ Okies won 35-28.
UNDER THE RADAR CLASSICS – The AVE MARIA UNIVERSITY GYRENES triumphed 21-19 at the WEBBER INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY WARRIORS ### Meanwhile, the MAYVILLE STATE COMETS beat the VALLEY CITY STATE VIKINGS 36-33 ### And the SIMPSON UNIVERSITY REDHAWKS won 36-35 at the SOUTHERN OREGON UNIVERSITY RAIDERS (should be Sea Gulls).
ANYBODY’S GAME? – This game pitted the UNIVERSITY OF ST. FRANCIS (IL) FIGHTING SAINTS against their guests, the DEFIANCE COLLEGE YELLOW JACKETS. It seemed like anybody’s game going into the 4th Quarter with the Fighting Saints up by just 21-14. USF got more separation, winning out by a final count of 27-14.

OTHER UPSETS IN THE RANKINGS – The LOCK HAVEN UNIVERSITY BALD EAGLES won 35-20 at the (13) INDIANA UNIVERSITY-PENNSYLVANIA CRIMSON HAWKS ### Elsewhere, the CHOWAN UNIVERSITY HAWKS edged their hosts the (16) NORTH GREENVILLE UNIVERSITY TRAILBLAZERS 16-13 ### And the EMORY & HENRY UNIVERSITY WASPS downed the visiting (21) MARS HILL UNIVERSITY LIONS 17-9.
SHUTOUT – The KENTUCKY STATE THOROBREDS played host to the MILES COLLEGE GOLDEN BEARS yesterday. The Thorobreds grabbed a quick 7-0 1st Quarter lead and never looked back from there. When the dust had settled Kentucky State had blanked the Golden Bears to the tune of 46-0.
ALL NAME GAMES – The CALIFORNIA (PA) VULCANS beat the visiting EDINBORO UNIVERSITY FIGHTING SCOTS 30-20 ### Next, the WASHBURN UNIVERSITY ICHABODS defeated the PITTSBURG (KS) STATE GORILLAS 16-9 ### And the UNIVERSITY OF INDIANAPOLIS GREYHOUNDS clobbered the MISSOURI S&T MINERS by a score of 48-14.
ROAD CLASSIC – Yesterday, the TEXAS A&M AT KINGSVILLE JAVELINAS traveled to take on the WESTERN OREGON UNIVERSITY WOLVES. Come Halftime Western Oregon led 28-23, but the Javelinas tied things up 44-44 to end the 3rd Quarter. In the 4th, TAMK prevailed 58-51.

OTHER UPSETS IN THE RANKINGS – The ROWAN UNIVERSITY PROFS won 26-21 at the (12) SALISBURY UNIVERSITY SEA GULLS ### Meanwhile, the MUHLENBERG COLLEGE MULES downed the visiting (22) FRANKLIN & MARSHALL COLLEGE DIPLOMATS 31-28 ### And the WASHINGTON & LEE UNIVERSITY GENERALS edged the (23) RANDOLPH-MACON COLLEGE YELLOW JACKETS 20-17.
SMACKDOWN – In this game the TRINITY (CT) BANTAMS played host to the HAMILTON COLLEGE CONTINENTALS. The Bantams parlayed their 10-0 opening Quarter lead into a 31-6 advantage by Halftime. After the break, Trinity College added 6 more points for a final tally of 37-6.
COOL NAME BOWLS – The TUFTS UNIVERSITY JUMBOS won 20-13 over the visiting BOWDOIN COLLEGE POLAR BEARS ### Meanwhile, the GENEVA COLLEGE GOLDEN TORNADOES obliterated the HIRAM COLLEGE TERRIERS 55-19 ### And the ST. NORBERT COLLEGE GREEN KNIGHTS triumphed 34-7 over the LAKELAND COLLEGE MUSKIES.
DEFENSIVE PERFECTION – Up next the POMONA-PITZER COLLEGE SAGEHENS traveled to play the WHITTIER COLLEGE POETS. The Sagehens kept their opponents off the scoreboard for the entire 4 Quarters, all the while putting up points themselves. Pomona-Pitzer College shut out the Poets 28-0.

BUILDERS ON THE ROAD – The NEWPORT NEWS APPRENTICE SCHOOL BUILDERS (as in Shipbuilders) took it on the road against the THADDEUS STEVENS COLLGE OF TECHNOLOGY BULLDOGS on Saturday. The teams went blow for blow and nearly score for score as the Builders ultimately headed back home with a 16-15 victory.
