APPOINTMENT WITH ADVENTURE (1955-1956) FORGOTTEN TELEVISION

APPOINTMENT WITH ADVENTURE (1955-1956) – This forgotten program from the 1950s presented LIVE performances that were filmed and could be aired as reruns in the future. Appointment with Danger ran for 53 half-hour episodes and featured writers like Rod Serling as well as actors like Paul Newman and Gena Rowlands. If you don’t like black & white, some episodes have been colorized.   

STANDOUT EPISODES:

FIVE IN JUDGMENT – Paul Newman and Jack Lord star in this drama about two brothers who take shelter from a storm in a small-town diner filled with other patrons waiting out the dust storm. News reports make the locals suspect that Paul and his brother are a pair of fugitives who just murdered a 16-year-old girl. Patricia Breslin and James Gregory also starred. 

RENDEZVOUS IN PARIS – Polly Bergen and Dane Clark starred in this thriller about the sister of a smuggler who wants her to seduce a diplomat into transporting stolen jewels into the United States in his diplomatic pouch.

PRICELESS CARGO – Arthur Franz plays a jaded, ruthless career criminal running guns to a fictional revolution-torn island “near Cuba.” He couldn’t care less about the causes that the warring factions are fighting over until a beautiful woman (Leora Dana) from one side penetrates his crusty shell. Nehemiah Persoff and Harold J. Stone also appeared.

FORBIDDEN HOLIDAY – A U.S. senator’s daughter (Phyllis Kirk) is traveling Europe under a false name to avoid press attention. In Italy she falls in love with a Lucky Luciano-style gangster (Jerome Thor) deported from America. Her father warns her the gangster’s up to something, but the young lady is convinced he truly loves her. 

THE SECRET OF JUAN VALDEZ – Turns out he doesn’t really pick every coffee bean himself! (Remember that old tv commercial? God, I feel old.) This episode features Jason Voorhees’ mother Betsy Palmer getting stranded in Mexico where she is fought over by a cattle breeder and a bullfighter. My mom and dad met this exact same way.

RACE THE COMET – A young woman (Kim Hunter) investigates organized crime involvement when her racecar driving brother (Lee Philips) dies in an accident on the track. Gene Barry and Conrad Janis also starred. 

DESPERATE GAME – At an international sporting event held in Yugoslavia, an American water polo player (Richard Derr) meets a beautiful Russian diving champion (Maria Riva). They fall in love, and he tries to facilitate her defection to the West.

DARK MEMORY – In contemporary Italy, an American couple (Joe Maross and Louise King) are sinisterly toyed with by their housekeeper (Lili Darvas). She wants revenge on the husband for taking part in a World War Two air raid that killed her son.

STAGE FRIGHT – The young fan (Jose Perez) of a stage actress (Louise Allbritton) overhears police questioning her about her suspected involvement in helping her criminal boyfriend (Russ Conway) escape from prison. David White also stars.

TIME BOMB – Police struggle to find a bomb hidden in a busy railroad station before it goes off, killing hundreds of people. But is the bomb really there? And can they keep their investigation secret enough to avoid causing a panic? Anthony Eisley and Jeanne Bal star.

SUBURBAN TERROR – A housewife (June Lockhart) nervously awaits her husband’s (Carl Betz) late night arrival home while fearing a burglar at large may invade her home at any minute. Also stars Henry Jones and Anne Seymour.

BETRAYAL – The father of a bride in West Berlin is on an espionage mission in East Berlin, where on the eve of her wedding he faces betrayal and capture by communist authorities. Patrick O’Neal and Eva Stern are among the stars.

ALL THROUGH THE NIGHT – A man (John Cassavetes) wanted for an attempted robbery holes up in the apartment of his sister (Elizabeth Montgomery) and her roommate (Tina Louise). He claims he can’t go to the police because a dangerous accomplice will kill him on sight. But is he telling the truth or is he basically using the ladies as potential hostages?

TIL THE END OF TIME – A woman (Signe Hasso) who works for Radio Free Europe believes her husband back on the other side of the Iron Curtain is dead, so she begins a romance with a coworker. It turns out her spouse isn’t dead after all, and her new lover can help him escape the communists.

A THIEF THERE WAS – Christopher Plummer himself starred as a thief who worked with his wife (Millette Alexander) to case a mansion intended for his next caper. The night he breaks into the place he finds a mysterious, unstable woman (Constance Ford) inside. Jason Robards also starred.

HIGH STAKES – A professional gambler and card cheat (Joe Maross) tries to go straight but the police lean on him to help them expose another high money cheater in a rigged poker game. David White, Lynn Bailey and Murray Matheson were also in the cast.

MINUS THREE THOUSAND – A pair of experienced cavern explorers check out a cave network in the Pyrenees. Is one planning on killing the other in order to steal their wife? Starring Louis Jourdan, Mala Powers, Claude Dauphin and Gerald Price. 

CAREER – In 1939, as World War Two is about to erupt, a Nazi official’s schoolteacher wife (Margaret Phillips) is really a deep cover British agent. She must escape with vital information for Great Britain.
