NAIA PLAYOFFS
ROUND ONE: GAME ONE – The SOUTHEASTERN UNIVERSITY FIRE welcomed the REINHARDT UNIVERSITY EAGLES (should be Rottweilers). The Fire led 14-7 in the opening Quarter and 21-10 by Halftime. Neither team scored in the 3rd Quarter, but Reinhardt University mounted a fierce rally in the 4th. Southeastern University held on for a 24-22 victory.
ROUND ONE: GAME TWO – A more lopsided affair was to be had in Oskaloosa, IA as the WILLIAM PENN UNIVERSITY STATESMEN played host to the TEXAS WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY RAMS. The 1st Half ended with the Statesmen out in front 21-3. After the break, William Penn U. outscored the Rams 17-6 to win the game 38-9.
ROUND ONE: GAME THREE – The UNIVERSITY OF ST. FRANCIS (IN) COUGARS took the field against the visiting EVANGEL UNIVERSITY VALOR. A 7-0 opening Quarter advantage for the Valor became a mere 10-7 edge come Halftime. The 3rd Quarter ended with the Cougars within 12-10, then in the 4th they came from behind for a 13-12 triumph.
ROUND ONE: GAME FOUR – In this game the CARROLL (MT) COLLEGE FIGHTING SAINTS entertained the ST. THOMAS (FL) UNIVERSITY BOBCATS (should be Tomcats). The Fighting Saints were up 7-3 in the 1st Quarter and 21-17 at Halftime. From there, CC expanded their lead to 28-17 in the 3rd Quarter, then survived a Bobcats rally in the 4th to win the game 42-35.
NCAA DIVISION TWO PLAYOFFS
FIRST ROUND: GAME ONE – The CALIFORNIA (PA) UNIVERSITY VULCANS visited the VIRGINIA UNION UNIVERSITY PANTHERS. At the Half, the Vulcans were on top 20-17 and neither team put up any more points in the 3rd Quarter. The 4th saw the Panthers and California U. exchange a touchdown each for a 27-24 victory for the Vulcans.
FIRST ROUND: GAME TWO – This game pitted the ASSUMPTION UNIVERSITY GREYHOUNDS against the home standing INDIANA UNIVERSITY IN PENNSYLVANIA CRIMSON HAWKS. The Crimson Hawks seemed in charge as they led Assumption 13-7 in the 1st Quarter and 20-10 at the midpoint. The Greyhounds roared back in the 3rd Quarter to go up 23-20, which held up as the final tally, too.
FIRST ROUND: GAME THREE – The BENEDICT COLLEGE TIGERS took it on the road against the WINGATE UNIVERSITY BULLDOGS. A 17-0 opening Quarter advantage for the Bulldogs remained unchanged at Halftime. In the 3rd Quarter, the score became a 24-7 Wingate lead, but the Tigers rallied in the 4th to win the game 25-24.
FIRST ROUND: GAME FOUR – The WESTERN COLORADO UNIVERSITY MOUNTAINEERS paid a call on the CENTRAL WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY WILDCATS. The 1st Quarter ended with the Wildcats up 3-0 and the 2nd with Western Colorado on top 14-10. After the break, the Mountaineers outscored Central Washington 13-10 for a 27-20 victory.
FIRST ROUND: GAME FIVE – Up next, the UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS AT THE PERMIAN BASIN FALCONS took on their hosts the COLORADO STATE AT PUEBLO THUNDERWOLVES. The Falcons converted their 17-0 opening Quarter advantage into a comfortable 23-3 lead at the Half and 30-10 in the 3rd Quarter. The Thunderwolves rallied a bit in the 4th, but UTPB triumphed 37-24.
FIRST ROUND: GAME SIX – The FROSTBURG STATE BOBCATS traveled to face the JOHNSON C. SMITH UNIVERSITY GOLDEN BULLS. The Bobcats were so dominant on defense they only let JCSU put up points in one Quarter of play. Frostburg State led 7-0, 14-0 and 14-7 in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Quarters, respectively before winning the game 21-7 in the 4th.
FIRST ROUND: GAME SEVEN – This game pitted the MINNESOTA STATE MAVERICKS against the home standing UNIVERSITY OF FINDLAY OILERS. A 7-7 1st Quarter tie morphed into a 21-7 Mavericks lead by Halftime. From there, Minnesota State left Findlay further and further behind on their way to a 37-14 victory.
FIRST ROUND: GAME EIGHT – The PITTSBURG (KS) STATE GORILLAS welcomed the CHADRON STATE EAGLES. The Gorillas were on top 7-3 in the opening Quarter and 14-3 at the midpoint. After the break, the Eagles made it a 14-9 score to end the 3rd Quarter before Pittsburg State won out in the 4th by a count of 21-17.
FIRST ROUND: GAME NINE – An all-Georgia clash was next as the ALBANY STATE GOLDEN RAMS defended their home field against the VALDOSTA STATE BLAZERS. The Blazers held a slight edge most of the way, leading Albany State 9-7, 23-21 and 30-28 in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Quarters. In the 4th, the Golden Rams went up 35-30 to win the game.
FIRST ROUND: GAME TEN – The NEWBERRY COLLEGE WOLVES played host to the KENTUCKY STATE THOROBREDS. A 15-10 1st Quarter lead for the Wolves increased to 31-10 by Halftime. The 3rd Quarter ended with the Thorobreds pulling to within 31-24, but Newberry College floored it in the 4th for a 45-24 triumph.
FIRST ROUND: GAME ELEVEN – The HARDING UNIVERSITY BISON took the field against the visiting NORTHWEST MISSOURI STATE BEARCATS. At the midpoint of the game the Bison led Northwest Missouri State 24-10 and 31-10 in the 3rd Quarter. The 4th saw Harding eliminate the Bearcats by a final score of 38-16.
FIRST ROUND: GAME TWELVE – Defensive perfection was in store in this gridiron clash as the KUTZTOWN UNIVERSITY GOLDEN BEARS welcomed the BENTLEY UNIVERSITY FALCONS. The Golden Bears were in charge 24-0 at Halftime and 38-0 to start the 4th Quarter. From there, Kutztown U. consummated the shutout 52-0.
FIRST ROUND: GAMES THIRTEEN TO SIXTEEN – All blowouts as the UNIVERSITY OF INDIANAPOLIS GREYHOUNDS crushed the TRUMAN STATE BULLDOGS 57-14 ### The UNIVERSITY OF WEST FLORIDA ARGONAUTS won 43-19 over the NORTH GREENVILLE U. TRAILBLAZERS ### The ASHLAND EAGLES beat the UMINN-DULUTH BULLDOGS 32-7 ### And the FERRIS STATE BULLDOGS lambasted the NORTHWOOD UNIVERSITY TIMBERWOLVES 65-14.
NCAA DIVISION THREE PLAYOFFS
ROUND ONE: GAME ONE – The CHAPMAN UNIVERSITY PANTHERS took it on the road against the WHITWORTH UNIVERSITY PIRATES. After a scoreless 1st Quarter, the Panthers went up 9-7 at the Half. The 3rd Quarter ended with the Pirates on top 10-9, but in the 4th Chapman University outscored their opponents 9-6 to win this 18-16 nailbiter.
ROUND ONE: GAME TWO – In this game the COE COLLEGE KOHAWKS visited the CONCORDIA (WI) FALCONS. The Kohawks led 17-7 by the midpoint and from there they proceeded to fold, spindle and mutilate hapless Concordia U. When all of the dust had settled in this blowout Coe College was headed back home with a 44-7 victory.
ROUND ONE: GAME THREE – The LAGRANGE UNIVERSITY PANTHERS traveled to face the FRAMINGHAM STATE RAMS. The Panthers led 3-0 to end the opening Quarter and 10-7 come Halftime. From there the two teams added 14 points each to their tallies as LaGrange University defeated Framingham State 24-21.
ROUND ONE: GAME FOUR – The SUSQUEHANNA UNIVERSITY RIVERHAWKS took the field against the visiting WASHINGTON & JEFFERSON COLLEGE PRESIDENTS. A 7-7 1st Quarter tie turned into a 21-17 Riverhawks advantage at the Half. After the break, Susquehanna outscored the Presidents 17-15 for a 38-32 win.
ROUND ONE: GAME FIVE – Up next, the MUHLENBERG COLLEGE MULES welcomed the UNION COLLEGE GARNET CHARGERS. The score was knotted up at 7-7 and 14-14 in the 1st and 2nd Quarters, respectively. The Mules went up on Union College 24-20 in the 3rd Quarter before winning the game 34-26 in the 4th.
ROUND ONE: GAME SIX – The HANOVER COLLEGE PANTHERS were at home against the GROVE CITY COLLEGE WOLVERINES. Neither team put up points in the opening Quarter, but the Panthers led 10-0 at the midpoint and 17-0 to end the 3rd Quarter of play. The 4th saw the Wolverines mount a comeback, but they fell short as Hanover won 23-15.
ROUND ONE: GAME SEVEN – This game pitted the SPRINGFIELD COLLEGE PRIDE against the visiting CORTLAND STATE RED DRAGONS. A scoreless 1st Quarter was followed by a 7-7 deadlock at Halftime. The defenses prevented any further points in the 3rd Quarter, but in the 4th the Pride exploded for a 21-7 victory.
ROUND ONE: GAME EIGHT – The WHEATON COLLEGE THUNDER were less than gracious hosts to the CROWN COLLEGE POLARS. The Thunder seized a 34-0 advantage in the opening Quarter and never looked back. A 48-7 lead at the Half ultimately turned into a SEVENTY-SIX to FOURTEEN blowout win for Wheaton College.
NJCAA
GAME ONE – The BUTLER (KS) GRIZZLIES visited the IOWA CENTRAL COLLEGE TRITONS in this game. The Tritons were on top 3-0 in the 1st Quarter and 10-7 at the midpoint. That was transformed into a 17-7 Iowa Central lead by the end of the 3rd Quarter, but the Grizzlies roared back in the 4th for a 28-24 triumph!
GAME TWO – The HUTCHINSON COLLEGE BLUE DRAGONS entertained the GARDEN CITY COLLEGE BRONCBUSTERS. The defense for the Blue Dragons kept Garden City College off the scoreboard the entire 1st Half and took a 10-0 lead into the locker room. From there, Hutchinson got a little more separation from the Broncbusters to win the game 27-14.
GAME THREE – Up next, the TYLER COLLEGE APACHES played host to the NORTHEASTERN OKLAHOMA A&M GOLDEN NORSEMEN. The Apaches were up 14-0 in the opening Quarter but that melted to a mere 20-14 edge by Halftime. Tyler College shut out the Golden Norsemen after the break on their way to a 33-14 victory.
GAME FOUR – The IOWA WESTERN COLLEGE REIVERS took the field against the visiting HIGHLAND COLLEGE SCOTTIES yesterday. This was one of those lopsided affairs where the losing team should just burn the game tape. The Reivers led 34-7 at the Half before going on to make the Scotties their prison brides to the tune of SIXTY-FOUR to THIRTEEN.
CCCAA PLAYOFFS
FIRST QUARTERFINAL – This game was a case of Ram-on-Ram violence as the FRESNO CITY COLLEGE RAMS took it on the road against the CITY COLLEGE OF SAN FRANCISCO RAMS. A 14-14 1st Quarter tie became a 31-21 San Francisco advantage at the break. Fresno City College went on top 35-31 in the 3rd Quarter and held on in the 4th for a 48-45 victory.
SECOND QUARTERFINAL – The DIABLO VALLEY COLLEGE VIKINGS (should be the Green Devils) hosted the BUTTE COLLEGE ROADRUNNERS. Neither team scored in the opening Quarter, but the Vikings went up 14-0 by Halftime. The 3rd Quarter ended with Diablo Valley on top 28-0 and the 4th in a 30-7 triumph for DVC.
THIRD QUARTERFINAL – The VENTURA COLLEGE PIRATES squared off against the visiting CERRITOS COLLEGE FALCONS. Points were plentiful as the Falcons led 12-7 in the 1st Quarter before Ventura College got a 21-20 edge at the Half. Cerritos’ 37-27 3rd Quarter advantage ended up as a 41-37 Pirates win in the 4th.
FOURTH QUARTERFINAL – This was the marathon game of the day as it turned out. The MOUNT SAN ANTONIO COLLEGE MOUNTIES welcomed the EL CAMINO COLLEGE WARRIORS. At Halftime the Mounties led 17-7 but El Camino College forced Overtime with a 31-31 tie in the 4th Quarter. It took FIVE OVERTIMES – mostly scoreless – before Mt. SAC emerged with a 42-40 triumph.
NJCAA BOWL GAMES
CAPE CHARLES BOWL – This Bowl pitted the WASHINGTON & LEE UNIVERSITY GENERALS against the LYCOMING COLLEGE WARRIORS. In the 1st Quarter, the Generals grabbed a 7-0 lead, then made that 14-6 at the midpoint. The 2nd Half was dominated by the defenses, with the only scoring coming from the Warriors as Washington & Lee held on to win 14-12.
BUSHNELL BOWL – The ROWAN UNIVERSITY PROFS did battle with the UTICA COLLEGE PIONEERS. The Pioneers watched their 7-3 opening Quarter advantage flip to a 19-7 Rowan advantage by Halftime. The 3rd Quarter ended in a 26-13 lead for the Profs before they held on in the 4th for a 26-20 victory.
FOREVERLAWN BOWL – Next, the WABASH COLLEGE LITTLE GIANTS played the OHIO NORTHERN UNIVERSITY POLAR BEARS. The Little Giants were clinging to a 24-21 edge at the Half, but Ohio Northern knotted the score at 24-24 in the 3rd Quarter. Wabash got daring in the 4th, scorning a PAT for a 2-point conversion to win the game 32-31.
LYNAH BOWL – The HOBART COLLEGE STATESMEN shared the field with the MARITIME COLLEGE PRIVATEERS. The Statesmen led 7-0 and 21-7 in the 1st and 2nd Quarters, respectively. Hobart College again outscored the Privateers 21-7 in the 2nd Half as they went on to win the Bowl by a final tally of 42-14.
CHAPMAN BOWL – In this game the RENSSELAER POLYTECHNIC INSTITUTE ENGINEERS squared off against the ST. JOHN FISHER COLLEGE CARDINALS. As Halftime arrived, the Cardinals held a 17-14 lead over Rensselaer, but that turned into a 28-17 Engineers advantage to end the 3rd Quarter. RPI triumphed 35-24 in the 4th.
CAPE HENRY BOWL – The WILKES UNIVERSITY COLONELS and the SHENANDOAH UNIVERSITY HORNETS fought it out. The Colonels led 14-7, 24-21 and 34-21 in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Quarters. The 4th saw the Hornets furiously working against their deficit only to fall just short as Wilkes University won the Bowl 37-35.
CULVER’S ISTHMUS BOWL – This Bowl pitted the UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN AT STOUT BLUE DEVILS against the WASHINGTON (MO) BEARS. By the midpoint, the Bears were on top of UW-Stout by a score of 17-14. In the 3rd Quarter the Blue Devils went up 24-17, then wound up with a 31-23 victory in the 4th.
WHITELAW BOWL – The COLLEGE AT BROCKPORT GOLDEN EAGLES took on another “golden” team in the GENEVA COLLEGE GOLDEN TORNADOES. By the time the Bowl reached the Half, the Golden Eagles were well and truly in the driver’s seat with their 32-2 advantage. After the break, Brockport coasted to a 46-10 win over the Golden Tornadoes.
EXTRA POINTS BOWL – The WESTMINSTER (PA) TITANS clashed with the MOUNT ST. JOSEPH UNIVERSITY LIONS. This was another largely non-competitive affair as the Titans led the Lions 33-14 at Halftime on their way to a decisive 40-21 clobbering of Mount St. Joseph University.
LAKEFRONT BOWL – In this Bowl the AURORA UNIVERSITY SPARTANS squared off against the ILLINOIS COLLEGE BLUEBOYS. Aurora U. led the Blueboys 7-0 in the 1st Quarter before pretty much taking over the game. The Spartans dominated on both sides of the ball, annihilating Illinois College 49-14.
MAC-CENTENNIAL BOWL I – This game in the annual Bowl series between the Centennial Conference and the Middle Atlantic Conference pitted the MAC’s DELAWARE VALLEY UNIVERSITY AGGIES against the CC’s DICKINSON COLLEGE RED DEVILS. By the midpoint the Red Devils were up 10-0, which became a 13-7 lead in the 3rd Quarter before the Aggies won out 14-13.
MAC-CENTENNIAL BOWL II – Up next, the CC’s CARNEGIE MELLON UNIVERSITY TARTANS fought it out with the MAC’s MISERICORDIA UNIVERSITY COUGARS. A 7-0 opening Quarter lead for the Tartans became a 14-7 advantage for Misericordia by Halftime. After the break, CMU went up 21-17 in the 3rd Quarter and 24-17 to end the 4th.
MAC-CENTENNIAL BOWL III – The URSINUS COLLEGE BEARS from the CC were up against the MAC’s LEBANON VALLEY COLLEGE FLYING DUTCHMEN. The Flying Dutchmen led 10-0 in the 1st Quarter, but Ursinus led 17-10 going into the locker room. The 3rd Quarter ended with the score 17-13 before the Bears sealed the win in the 4th, 31-13.
CCCAA BOWLS
SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA BOWL – In this Bowl the FULLERTON COLLEGE HORNETS played the RIVERSIDE CITY COLLEGE TIGERS. The 1st Half ended with the Hornets out in front by a score of 14-10. In the 3rd Quarter, Fullerton College increased their lead to 35-17, before putting away the Tigers by a final count of 45-30.
SEQUOIA BOWL – Now came the clash between the FOOTHILL COLLEGE OWLS and the COLLEGE OF THE SEQUOIAS GIANTS. These two teams exchanged point for point and blow for blow, resulting in a 14-14 Halftime tie and a 21-21 deadlock to end Regulation. In the extra session, the Owls gambled on a 2-point conversion which gave them a 29-28 victory.
GOLDEN STATE BOWL – The LOS MEDANOS COLLEGE MUSTANGS played the COALINGA COLLEGE FALCONS. The Mustangs were on top of Coalinga College 28-21 at the midpoint of the game. Neither team scored in the 3rd Quarter, but the 4th saw Los Medanos College dismiss the Falcons by a score of 41-35.
BEACH BOWL – In this game the GROSSMONT COLLEGE GRIFFINS took on the WEST LOS ANGELES COLLEGE WILDCATS. A 14-0 opening Quarter advantage for the Griffins remained unchanged at the Half. 21-7 was the score to end the 3rd Quarter, but in the 4th, Grossmont College had to hold on for a 21-20 edge of their seat win.
PATRIOTIC BOWL – The SOUTHWESTERN (CA) COLLEGE JAGUARS were matched up against the MOORPARK COLLEGE RAIDERS. The Jaguars kept Moorpark College off the scoreboard until the 4th Quarter. Meanwhile, they led the game 14-0 in the 1st Half and 21-0 in the 3rd Quarter before putting away the Raiders 31-7 in the 4th.
WESTERN STATE BOWL – The ANTELOPE VALLEY COLLEGE MARAUDERS faced the SAN BERNARDINO VALLEY COLLEGE WOLVERINES in this Bowl. The score was knotted up at 7-7 as Halftime rolled around. From there, the Marauders led 17-14 to end the 3rd Quarter and then went on to win the game in the 4th 26-14.
GRIDIRON CLASSIC BOWL – The AMERICAN RIVER COLLEGE BEAVERS played the MONTEREY PENINSULA COLLEGE LOBOS on Saturday. The opening Half ended in a 7-7 tie and the 3rd Quarter deadlocked at 14-14. In the 4th, the Beavers scored the only points, defeating the Lobos by a final tally of 20-14.
GOLDEN STATE BOWL II – Next, the PASADENA CITY COLLEGE LANCERS found themselves on the road against the CITRUS COLLEGE OWLS. The Lancers were on top 14-0 in the 1st Quarter, but Citrus College went up 17-14 by the midpoint of the game. The 4th Quarter started with PCC leading 21-17 and ended in a 35-30 Lancers victory.
