BALLADEER’S BLOG’S COLLEGE FOOTBALL RESULTS: NOV 16th

HEADLINES

DOWN GOES NUMBER THREE – In NCAA Division Three, the 25th ranked FRANKLIN & MARSHALL COLLEGE DIPLOMATS welcomed the number 3 team in the nation – the JOHNS HOPKINS UNIVERSITY BLUEJAYS. A 7-0 Bluejays lead in the 1st Quarter became a 21-14 advantage by Halftime. The Diplomats forced Overtime with a 21-21 tie, and in the extra session won out 29-28.

NUMBER FOUR TOPPLED – In NCAA Division Two, the VALDOSTA STATE BLAZERS traveled to face the country’s number 4 UNIVERSITY OF WEST FLORIDA ARGONAUTS. By the midpoint, the Argonauts were out in front 30-23. From there the Blazers tied the score 44-44 to end Regulation, then went on to win in Overtime 47-44. 

NUMBER SIX TAKES A FALL – Over in the NAIA, the number 9 MORNINGSIDE UNIVERSITY MUSTANGS visited the 6th ranked DORDT UNIVERSITY DEFENDERS. The Mustangs were on top 13-7 in the opening Quarter and 20-14 at the Half. After the break the Defenders knotted things up at 28. In Overtime Morningside U. triumphed 34-28.

HILLSDALE HOME STAND – Back in NCAA Division 2, the HILLSDALE COLLEGE CHARGERS took the field against the visiting OHIO DOMINICAN UNIVERSITY PANTHERS. The Chargers led 7-0, 10-7 and 17-14 in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Quarters, respectively. In the 4th, Hillsdale pulled away from their opponents for a 31-14 victory.

SPIRIT OF EIGHTY-FIVE – Back over in the NAIA, the MCPHERSON COLLEGE BULLDOGS (should be the Mastiffs) played host to the STERLING COLLEGE WARRIORS. A scoreless opening Quarter was followed by a 38-0 advantage for McPherson College at the midpoint. The Bulldogs kept up that level of domination in the 2nd Half, eviscerating Sterling College EIGHTY-FIVE to NOTHING.

TAKING DOWN NUMBER TEN – The TIFFIN UNIVERSITY DRAGONS were on the road against the nation’s number 10 UNIVERSITY OF FINDLAY OILERS. An 8-7 Oilers lead at Halftime became 14-10 to end the 3rd Quarter. In the 4th, the Dragons managed to outscore the University of Findlay 13-7 for a 23-21 victory. 

NAIA

OTHER UPSETS IN THE RANKINGS – The 20th ranked GEORGETOWN (KY) COLLEGE TIGERS marked Senior Day with a game against the visiting number 10 CAMPBELLSVILLE UNIVERSITY TIGERS and eked out a 34-32 Upset win    ###    And the CONCORDIA (NE) BULLDOGS defeated their guests the 19th ranked NORTHWESTERN (IA) COLLEGE RED RAIDERS 21-17.

PHURIOUS PHOENIX – The CUMBERLAND UNIVERSITY PHOENIX welcomed the FAULKNER UNIVERSITY EAGLES (should be the Fury). By Halftime the Phoenix had compiled a commanding 41-14 lead over Faulkner U. After the break, Cumberland shut out the Eagles while continuing to add to their pile of points, winning big 72-14.

UNDER THE RADAR CLASSICS – The ARIZONA CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY FIRESTORM were at home against the SIMPSON UNIVERSITY RED HAWKS and managed a 46-39 win   ###   Meanwhile, the ROCKY MOUNTAIN COLLEGE BATTLIN’ BEARS won 29-27 over the MAYVILLE STATE COMETS   ###   And the NELSON UNIVERSITY LIONS downed the TEXAS COLLEGE STEERS 26-21.

CATFIGHT – This game pitted the PERU STATE BOBCATS against the home standing CULVER-STOCKTON COLLEGE WILDCATS. The Bobcats were on top 14-7 in the 1st Quarter and stayed on top 28-21 at the end of the Half. From there, each team added 14 more points to their tally as Peru State won the game 42-35. 

NCAA DIVISION TWO

OTHER UPSETS IN THE RANKINGS – The 16th ranked JOHNSON C. SMITH UNIVERSITY GOLDEN BULLS WON 45-21 at the number 12 VIRGINIA UNION UNIVERSITY PANTHERS   ###   Next, the MINNESOTA STATE AT MOORHEAD DRAGONS beat their hosts the (14) MINNESOTA STATE MAVERICKS 31-23   ###   And the WAYNE STATE WILDCATS defeated the (15) AUGUSTANA (SD) VIKINGS 38-31. 

WE WENT TO A FOOTBALL GAME BUT A BASKETBALL GAME BROKE OUT – This game pitted the WEST LIBERTY UNIVERSITY HILLTOPPERS against the visiting WHEELING UNIVERSITY CARDINALS. The Hilltoppers were up 20-14 in the 1st Quarter and 34-29 at the Half. The 3rd Quarter ended with West Liberty leading 55-44 and the 4th in a tight 68-67 Hilltoppers victory.

ALL-NAME ROAD GAMES – The TEXAS A&M AT KINGSVILLE JAVELINAS won 45-28 at the EASTERN NEW MEXICO UNIVERSITY GREYHOUNDS   ###   Elsewhere, the COLORADO SCHOOL OF MINES OREDIGGERS won 55-21 at the FORT LEWIS COLLEGE SKYHAWKS   ###   And the UNIVERSITY OF CENTRAL MISSOURI MULES won 38-24 at the UNIVERSITY OF NEBRASKA AT KEARNEY LOPERS.

RAGING STORM – Yesterday the SOUTHERN NAZARENE UNIVERSITY CRIMSON STORM took the field against their guests the OKLAHOMA BAPTIST UNIVERSITY BISON. The Crimson Storm parlayed a 14-3 opening Quarter lead into a 21-6 advantage by the midpoint. After the break, SNU left the Bison further and further behind, winning the game 49-19. 

NCAA DIVISION THREE

OTHER UPSETS IN THE RANKINGS – The COE UNIVERSITY KOHAWKS logged a 13-7 road victory for themselves over the number 19 CENTRAL COLLEGE DUTCH    ###    Next, the ITHACA COLLEGE BOMBERS welcomed the 20th ranked CORTLAND STATE RED DRAGONS and defeated them in a 26-21 thriller.

WE WENT TO A FOOTBALL GAME BUT A BASEBALL GAME BROKE OUT – In this game the CLAREMONT-MUDD-SCRIPPS COLLEGE STAGS were at home against the UNIVERSITY OF LA VERNE LEOPARDS. A defensive clinic was held with points being VERY hard to come by. When all was said and done the Stags triumphed FIVE to NOTHING.   

COOL NAME BOWLS – This category saw the AUSTIN COLLEGE KANGAROOS survive a 16-14 visit from the CENTENARY COLLEGE GENTLEMEN   ###   The UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND NOR’EASTERS annihilated the NEW ENGLAND COLLEGE PILGRIMS 59-3   ###   And the GETTYSBURG COLLEGE BULLETS won 36-23 at the MCDANIEL COLLEGE GREEN TERROR.

ONE-POINT WONDER – The SIMPSON COLLEGE STORM called on the NEBRASKA WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY PRAIRIE WOLVES yesterday. As Halftime arrived, the Storm were on top of Nebraska Wesleyan U. 14-13. The Prairie Wolves went up 19-14 in the 3rd Quarter only for Simpson College to come back to win 23-22 in the 4th.

NSAC

CHAMPIONSHIP GAME – The very first NSAC title tilt saw the North Division’s CLAYTON STATE LAKERS hosting the South Division’s LIGHTHOUSE CHRISTIAN COLLEGE MAKOS (as in the sharks). The Makos were on top 7-0 after one Quarter of play, but the score was tied 7-7 at the Half. The 3rd Quarter ended with the Lakers up 21-13 and the 4th in a 42-28 Clayton State victory.

NJCAA

ONE AND TWO ROLL – The nation’s number 1 team – the defending champion HUTCHINSON COLLEGE BLUE DRAGONS – got an authoritative 49-7 win over the home standing HIGHLAND COLLEGE SCOTTIES    ###    And the 2nd ranked IOWA WESTERN COLLEGE REIVERS registered a SIXTY to NOTHING shutout of the visiting ELLSWORTH COLLEGE PANTHERS.

TUSSLE IN THE TOP FIVE – The number 4 NORTHWEST MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE RANGERS welcomed the 5th ranked MISSISSIPPI GULF COAST COLLEGE BULLDOGS on Saturday. These familiar foes battled to a 10-7 Halftime lead for the Rangers which became 13-7 going into the 4th Quarter. The Bulldogs pulled a bit closer but still lost to NMC 16-13.

HOME AND AWAY – Home: The NORTHEASTERN OKLAHOMA A&M GOLDEN NORSEMEN brought down the number 9 TRINITY VALLEY COLLEGE CARDINALS in a 38-31 upset    ###    Away: In this game the MONROE COLLEGE MUSTANGS took it on the road against the NASSAU COLLEGE LIONS and defeated them 27-10.

WORKING OVERTIME – In this game the (10) IOWA CENTRAL COLLEGE TRITONS were on the road against the GARDEN CITY COLLEGE BRONCBUSTERS. A 14-7 Tritons lead at Halftime turned into a 17-17 tie to end the 4th Quarter. The extra session saw Iowa Central College stop the Broncbusters, then win the game 23-17.
