NUMBER EIGHT TAKES A FALL – Over in NCAA Division Two, the WAYNE STATE WILDCATS took the field against the visiting 8th ranked MINNESOTA STATE MAVERICKS. AND ANOTHER NUMBER EIGHT COMES TUMBLING AFTER – Down in NCAA Division Three, the 9th ranked UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN AT WHITEWATER WARHAWKS played host to the number 8 UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN AT PLATTEVILLE PIONEERS. The Warhawks led 14-3 at the midpoint, trailed 19-14 to end the 3rd Quarter, then won 29-19 in the 4th.

HILLSDALE ON THE ROAD – Back in NCAA D2, the HILLSDALE COLLEGE CHARGERS played the LAKE ERIE COLLEGE STORM. This odd game saw the Chargers convert their 7-0 opening Quarter edge into a comfortable 35-10 lead at Halftime. Neither team put up a single point from there, so 35-10 was the final score as well.

HAPPY SENIOR DAY – The independent WILLIAMSON COLLEGE OF THE TRADES MECHANICS marked Senior Day by taking on the CAPP ACADEMY CRUSADERS. A scoreless 1st Quarter was followed by a 21-0 Mechanics advantage by the midpoint. That became 34-0 in the 3rd Quarter before Williamson put away the Crusaders 37-0 in the 4th.

MAKING HISTORY – The NEW ENGLAND COLLEGE PILGRIMS got their 1st win since reviving their intercollegiate football program this season. It came against their guests the MAINE MARITIME ACADEMY MARINERS. The Mariners were up 10-7 come Halftime, then neither team scored in the 3rd Quarter. FOUR QUARTERS WEREN’T ENOUGH – The FORT HAYS STATE TIGERS took it on the road against the WASHBURN UNIVERSITY ICHABODS yesterday. This rather odd affair saw the Ichabods on top 10-0 at the Half before Fort Hays State forced Overtime with a 10-10 tie to end the 4th Quarter. In the extra session, the Tigers won out 13-10.

NCAA DIVISION THREE

OTHER UPSETS IN THE RANKINGS – The only other Upset in the D3 rankings came in the game between the MUHLENBERG COLLEGE MULES and their guests the number 16 CARNEGIE MELLON UNIVERSITY TARTANS. A DOUBLE-SHOT OF THAT OT LOVE – The CHAPMAN UNIVERSITY PANTHERS took the field against their guest the CLAREMONT-MUDD-SCRIPPS COLLEGE STAGS and outlasted them 37-31 in Double Overtime    ###    And the REDLANDS COLLEGE BULLDOGS likewise needed Double OT to win 30-24 at the CAL LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY KINGSMEN.

NSAC

BACK IN THE WIN COLUMN – The ATLANTIS UNIVERSITY ATLANTEANS traveled to face their South Division rivals, the GORDON STATE HIGHLANDERS. The victory went to the Atlanteans in what will hopefully be a crucial NSAC rivalry for many years to come. After 4 bruising Quarters of football, Atlantis University defeated the Highlanders 34-27.

MARATHON GAME OF THE WEEK – The longest-lasting game on Saturday was this clash between the LIGHTHOUSE CHRISTIAN COLLEGE MAKOS (as in the sharks) and their hosts, the WESTGATE CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY GOLD RAVENS. One Overtime period wasn’t enough, but in the 2nd Overtime the Makos triumphed 36-28.

ROAD RAGE – The CLAYTON STATE LAKERS found themselves on the road against their North Division rivals, the SOUTH CAROLINA CENTRAL CHRISTIAN COLLEGE GLADIATORS. The Lakers had it mostly their own way, shoving their opponents around the field almost at will on their way to a 53-17 blowout win.

FORFEIT – A game was scheduled between the NEWPORT NEWS APPRENTICE SCHOOL BUILDERS (as in Shipbuilders) and the traveling BARBER-SCOTIA COLLEGE SABERS. Unfortunately, the plague of Forfeits continues in this debut year of NSAC football. The Builders registered the 2-0 Forfeit victory over Barber-Scotia College.

SHUTOUT – The LOUISBURG COLLEGE HURRICANES played host to the MYRTLE BEACH COLLEGIATE MARAUDERS. The Hurricanes achieved defensive perfection against Myrtle Beach, utterly owning them the entire game. When all of the dust had settled, Louisburg College had spanked the Marauders SIXTY to NOTHING.

UNDER THE RADAR CLASSIC – This game pitted the NORTHEASTERN OKLAHOMA A&M GOLDEN NORSEMEN against the visiting BLINN COLLEGE BUCCANEERS. By Halftime the Golden Norsemen enjoyed a 14-7 advantage. The close play continued in the 2nd Half, with Northeastern Oklahoma A&M prevailing 28-21.

CCCAA
