BALLADEER’S BLOG’S COLLEGE FOOTBALL RESULTS: OCTOBER 12th

HEADLINES

TOPPLING NUMBER FOUR – In NCAA Division 2, the number 15 CENTRAL WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY WILDCATS visited the 4th ranked UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS AT THE PERMIAN BASIN FALCONS. The Falcons were on top 7-3 come Halftime and 14-10 to end the 3rd Quarter. In the 4th, the Wildcats came from behind for a 27-14 Upset victory.

NUMBER EIGHT TAKES A FALL – Staying in D2 for a moment, the NORTHERN STATE WOLVES played host to the country’s number 8 UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA AT DULUTH BULLDOGS. A 10-7 1st Quarter edge for the Wolves became 20-10 by the midpoint. After the break, the Bulldogs rallied but fell short as Northern State held on tight in a 34-31 triumph.

ANOTHER NUMBER EIGHT FOLLOWS – Over in the NAIA, the 14th ranked CARROLL COLLEGE FIGHTING SAINTS traveled to face the number 8 team in the nation – the UNIVERSITY OF MONTANA-WESTERN BULLDOGS. At the Half, the Fighting Saints put UMW on Upset Alert with their 28-14 advantage. From there CC held on to win the game 42-34.

DOWN IN NCAA DIVISION THREE – In this game, D3’s 14th ranked UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN AT RIVER FALLS FALCONS welcomed the number 6 UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN AT PLATTEVILLE PIONEERS. The Falcons led 14-0, 24-7 and 31-14 in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Quarters, respectively. The Pioneers fought hard but lost 31-21.

PREP YOUR M.A.P.S. – Down at the NJCAA level, the MILITARY ACADEMY PREP SCHOOL VANGUARDS played host to the LACKAWANNA COLLEGE FALCONS. Neither team scored in the opening Quarter, but the Falcons led 14-7 at the Half. The Vanguards forced Overtime with a 14-14 tie, then won the game 20-14 in the extra session.

SPIRIT OF SEVENTY-SEVEN – Staying in the NJCAA for the moment, the MINNESOTA WEST TECHNICAL COLLEGE BLUE JAYS visited the VERMILION COLLEGE IRON HAWKS (formerly the Ironmen). It was one of those games where the Iron Hawks should just burn the game tape. The Blue Jays folded, spindled and mutilated them to the tune of SEVENTY-SEVEN to TWELVE!  

NAIA

OTHER UPSETS IN THE RANKINGS – The only other Upset in the NAIA rankings yesterday came in this game between the MIDLAND UNIVERSITY WARRIORS and their hosts the 17th ranked CONCORDIA (NE) BULLDOGS. Concordia watched their 31-7 Halftime lead melt as the Warriors forced Overtime with a 45-45 tie. The 1st OT ended in a 52-52 deadlock, but Midland triumphed 60-52 in Double Overtime.

UNDER THE RADAR CLASSICS – The ST. XAVIER UNIVERSITY COUGARS took the field against the visiting SIENA HEIGHTS UNIVERSITY SAINTS and beat them 26-20   ###   Meanwhile, the REINHARDT UNIVERSITY EAGLES (should be Rottweilers) won 38-35 at the KENTUCKY CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY KNIGHTS   ###   And the BETHEL (TN) WILDCATS beat the CUMBERLAND UNIVERSITY PHOENIX 28-24.

ROAD ROUT – In this game the LAWRENCE TECH BLUE DEVILS found themselves on the road against the JUDSON UNIVERSITY EAGLES. The Blue Devils converted their 24-14 opening Quarter advantage into a 38-14 lead at the Half. From there Lawrence Tech got even more separation from the Eagles for a 59-28 victory.

COOL NAME GAMES – The (18) SOUTHEASTERN UNIVERSITY FIRE easily won a Shutout against the visiting THOMAS UNIVERSITY NIGHTHAWKS by a score of 69-0   ###   Elsewhere, the OTTAWA UNIVERSITY (AZ) SPIRIT won 45-0 at the TEXAS COLLEGE STEERS   ###   And the (7) MONTANA TECH OREDIGGERS beat the MONTANA STATE-NORTHERN LIGHTS 49-7 in their own house. 

NCAA DIVISION TWO

OTHER UPSETS IN THE RANKINGS – The TEXAS A&M AT KINGSVILLE JAVELINAS downed the number 10 ANGELO STATE RAMS 24-19   ###   Elsewhere, the EDINBORO UNIVERSITY FIGHTING SCOTS survived a 35-29 visit from the 19th ranked CALIFORNIA (PA) VULCANS   ###   And the UNIVERSITY OF CENTRAL OKLAHOMA BRONCHOS (their spelling) won 21-14 at the (20) FT. HAYS STATE TIGERS.

TRIPLING UP ON THE COMPETITION – This game pitted the KENTUCKY STATE THOROBREDS against the visiting EDWARD WATERS UNIVERSITY TIGERS. The Thorobreds took charge early in the game and led Edward Waters University 21-7 by Halftime. After the break, Kentucky State maintained their intensity against the Tigers, clobbering them 42-14.

BEAT THE MARAUDERS – The SHIPPENSBURG UNIVERSITY RED RAIDERS defeated the MILLERSVILLE UNIVERSITY MARAUDERS by a score of 41-28   ###   Next, the MOREHOUSE COLLEGE MAROON TIGERS won 31-26 at the CENTRAL STATE MARAUDERS   ###   And the MINNESOTA STATE AT MOORHEAD DRAGONS won 38-35 at the UNIVERSITY OF MARY MARAUDERS.

OLD SCHOOL FOOTBALL – The OKLAHOMA BAPTIST UNIVERSITY BISON welcomed the UNIVERSITY OF ARKANSAS AT MONTICELLO BOLL WEEVILS. A scoreless 1st Quarter was followed by a 7-7 Halftime deadlock. The Boll Weevils went on top 14-7 to end the 3rd Quarter, but the 4th ended in a 17-14 Bison victory.

NCAA DIVISION THREE

OTHER UPSETS IN THE RANKINGS – The UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN AT STOUT BLUE DEVILS toppled the number 11 UW-OSHKOSH TITANS 27-16   ###   Meanwhile, the BERRY UNIVERSITY VIKINGS manhandled the 16th ranked TRINITY (TX) TIGERS 29-6   ###   And the FRANKLIN & MARSHALL COLLEGE DIPLOMATS edged the number 25 MUHLENBERG COLLEGE MULES 28-27.

COMEBACK PRINCES – The HEIDELBERG UNIVERSITY STUDENT PRINCES paid a visit to the MARIETTA COLLEGE PIONEERS on Saturday. A 21-14 Pioneers lead at the midpoint of the game became a 27-17 advantage to end the 3rd Quarter. The 4th saw the Student Princes shut out Marietta while coming from behind for a 30-27 triumph.

ALL NAME GAMES – The GUSTAVUS ADOLPHUS COLLEGE GUSTIES took it on the road against the ST. OLAF COLLEGE OLES and outdid them 35-21   ###   Elsewhere, the LORAS COLLEGE DUHAWKS won a 31-28 thriller at the NEBRASKA WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY PRAIRIE WOLVES   ###   And the DICKINSON COLLEGE RED DEVILS crushed the visiting GETTYSBURG COLLEGE BULLETS 49-21.

BACK IN THE WIN COLUMN – On Saturday the ST. NORBERT COLLEGE GREEN KNIGHTS paid a call on the WISCONSIN LUTHERAN COLLEGE WARRIORS. The Green Knights led 7-0 in the 1st Quarter and 10-7 at the Half. In the 3rd Quarter St. Norbert College made it a 17-7 game, then held on against the Warriors for a 17-14 win in the 4th.

NSAC

BUILDING A BLOWOUT – The NEWPORT NEWS APPRENTICE SCHOOL BUILDERS (Shipbuilders) took on the home standing LIGHTHOUSE CHRISTIAN COLLEGE MAKOS. The Builders led 14-0 in the opening Quarter and 34-13 come Halftime. From there, the Apprentice School outscored the Makos 26-20 to win the game 60-33.

BEYOND A SHUTOUT – The UNIVERSITY OF VIRGINIA AT WISE HIGHLAND CAVALIERS hosted the SOUTH CAROLINA CENTRAL CHRISTIAN COLLEGE GLADIATORS. The Highland Cavaliers bolted out to a 28-0 1st Quarter lead and never looked back. When the dust settled UVA-Wise had registered a 65-0 cremation of the Gladiators.

GOLD RUSH – In this game the UNIVERSITY OF ARKANSAS AT PINE BLUFF GOLDEN LIONS welcomed the WESTGATE CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY GOLD RAVENS. The Golden Lions led Westgate Christian University 35-7, 51-10 and 72-10 in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Quarters respectively. In the 4th, UAPB put the Gold Ravens out of their misery 79-10.

WHEN A CRYPTID ATTACKS – The CLAYTON STATE LAKERS took it on the road against the BARBER-SCOTIA COLLEGE SABERS yesterday. The Lakers were in charge in this game as they pushed Barber-Scotia College around the field. After all of the dust had settled, Clayton State had efficiently knocked off the Sabers 34-7.

NJCAA

EASY AS ONE, TWO, THREE – The nation’s number 1 team – the HUTCHINSON COLLEGE BLUE DRAGONS – logged a 44-3 road blowout over the DODGE CITY COLLEGE CONQUISTADORS   ###   Meanwhile, the 2nd ranked IOWA WESTERN COLLEGE REIVERS won 40-15 at the number 13 SNOW COLLEGE BADGERS   ###   And the number 3 TYLER COLLEGE APACHES beat the BLINN COLLEGE BUCCANEERS 55-7.

ONE-POINT WONDER – The ERIE COLLEGE KATS took the field against the visiting NASSAU COLLEGE LIONS yesterday. By Halftime the Kats held a 14-0 advantage over Nassau College. The Lions roared out of the locker room ready for a rally, however, and Erie College wound up holding on by the skin of their teeth by just 28-27.

ROAD BLOWOUTS – The CISCO COLLEGE WRANGLERS kicked around the NEW MEXICO MILITARY INSTITUTE BRONCOS (should be Cavalry) to the tune of 56-21   ###   Elsewhere, the COFFEYVILLE COLLEGE RED RAVENS shut out the HIGHLAND COLLEGE SCOTTIES 51-0   ###   And the (10) IOWA CENTRAL COLLEGE TRITONS won 49-13 at the COLLEGE OF DUPAGE CHAPARRALS. 

CATFIGHT – This game pitted the EAST MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE LIONS against the visiting NORTHEAST MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE TIGERS. The Tigers were on top 7-0 in the 1st Quarter, but East Mississippi College cut that to a 10-7 edge by Halftime. A huge 3rd Quarter for the Lions put them up 28-17. A 4th Quarter NMC rally fell short as East Mississippi triumphed 31-28.  

CCCAA

TUSSLE IN THE TOP FOUR – The number 1 COLLEGE OF SAN MATEO BULLDOGS welcomed the 4th ranked DIABLO VALLEY COLLEGE VIKINGS (should be Green Devils). A scoreless opening Quarter was followed by a 10-3 Bulldogs lead at the Half. That turned into 17-10 in the 3rd Quarter before San Mateo dispatched DVC 30-24 in the 4th.

DEFENSIVE PERFECTION – Three Shutouts were achieved yesterday – The (7) MOUNT SAN ANTONIO COLLEGE MOUNTIES won 52-0 at the SANTA ANA COLLEGE DONS   ###   Next, the BUTTE COLLEGE ROADRUNNERS triumphed 27-0 over the SANTA ROSA COLLEGE BEAR CUBS   ###   And the DE ANZA COLLEGE DONS eviscerated the HARTNELL COLLEGE PANTHERS EIGHTY-THREE to NOTHING. 

ONE-POINT WONDER – This game pitted the COLLEGE OF THE DESERT ROADRUNNERS against the visiting LOS ANGELES COLLEGE SOUTHWEST COUGARS. A 10-10 Halftime tie became a 17-10 lead for the Roadrunners to end the 3rd Quarter. In the 4th, the College of the Desert barely held on for a 24-23 victory.

POTPOURI – The MONTEREY PENINSULA COLLEGE LOBOS defeated their guests the REEDLEY COLLEGE TIGERS by a final score of 30-21   ###   Meanwhile, the COLLEGE OF THE SEQUOIAS GIANTS won 24-20 at the SACRAMENTO CITY COLLEGE PANTHERS   ###   And the MOORPARK COLLEGE RAIDERS crushed the SANTA BARBARA CITY COLLEGE VAQUEROS 40-7 in their own house.
