PETER PAN (1924) SILENT FILM POSTERS

Reviews of Alien: Earth are chock full of jokes about the endless Peter Pan references from Boy Kavalier, so it occurred to me that I hadn’t posted anything about silent movies in a while. In honor of the forced references in Alien: Earth here are a few movie posters from 1924’s very FIRST big screen adaptation of the James Barrie tale, starring Betty Bronson as Peter.

By the way, if you’ve never seen this 1924 version of the story, please check it out. The special effects are extraordinary since this was made when silent films were approaching their peak. It might even make you curious about other silent movies.

  2. Am curious about the 1924 version of the story now! These posters seem more Peter-pan-ish than some other images, if you know what I mean!

    • I certainly do know what you mean! It is a great movie. The effects for the flying – even when magic dust is sprinkled all over the pirate ship to fly everybody back home at the end it all looks very good. Even shots showing Tinkerbelle next to small objects like buttons, etc are done well by making those objects FIT TO SCALE. It’s not like cheap 1950s sci-fi movies where the effects for something or someone who was really big or really small were not kept to scale and it looked like crap. Betty Bronson does well as Peter and Anna May Wong plays Princess Tiger Lily.

      • Okay, now I’m definitely going to watch it! Plus Tinkerbelle is one of my absolute favourite characters, so if she’s in scale, all the better, as there’s nothing worse than an unrealistic-looking fairy, in my opinion! Pretty sure I’ve seen Betty Bronson in other films, just can’t remember which ones…

      • Oh, terrific! I hope you enjoy it! Yes, Betty showed up in a lot of supporting roles.

Great posts as always. I have never been a huge fan of Peter Pan but as always found your post to be extremely engaging to read. It brought to mind great movies about Peter Pan which I have seen.

  4. Great post! Love this selection of posters. I’m particularly fond of the 20’s style posters.
