BALLADEER’S BLOG’S COLLEGE FOOTBALL RESULTS FROM AUG 28th

HEADLINES

DOWN GOES NUMBER FIVE – The NAIA’s 11th ranked MONTANA TECH OREDIGGERS welcomed the NAIA’s number 5 team in the nation – the UNIVERSITY OF MONTANA-WESTERN BULLDOGS. The Orediggers piled up a 31-7 lead in the opening Quarter, a score that was unchanged come Halftime. UMW made it a 31-21 game to end the 3rd Quarter, but Montana Tech won out 38-27. 

NUMBER TEN TAKES A FALL – Also in the NAIA, the LINDSEY WILSON COLLEGE BLUE RAIDERS took the field against the visiting number 10 TEXAS WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY RAMS. The Blue Raiders parlayed their 14-3 1st Quarter advantage into a 28-10 lead at the Half. From there, Lindsey Wilson College went on to clobber the Rams by a final score of 45-10.

WHEN RANKED TEAMS CLASH – Over in NCAA Division Two, the top-ranked defending National Champions – the FERRIS STATE BULLDOGS – doubled-up on their guests, the number 10 PITTSBURG (KS) STATE GORILLAS 34-17    ###    Meanwhile, the number 12 ANGELO STATE RAMS won 28-7 at the 20th ranked FORT HAYS STATE TIGERS.   

NEAR MISS – The NAIA nearly got its first Upset of 2025 over NCAA Division Two. The UNIVERSITY OF MARY MARAUDERS played host to the MIDLAND UNIVERSITY WARRIORS. The Marauders led their NAIA opponents 14-0 by the midpoint and 21-9 in the 3rd Quarter. A wild rally by the Warriors fell short as the University of Mary held on in the 4th for a 28-22 victory.

PUTTING IN OVERTIME – In this game the OLIVET NAZARENE UNIVERSITY TIGERS (should be Purple Tigers) were on the road against the TAYLOR UNIVERSITY TROJANS. The Trojans led 14-0 in the opening Quarter and 28-14 at Halftime. The 3rd Quarter ended in a 35-35 tie and the 4th knotted up at 42-42. In Overtime, the Tigers stopped TU then got a Touchdown to win the game 48-42.

BLOWOUTS – The MAYVILLE STATE COMETS dismembered the visiting JUDSON UNIVERSITY EAGLES 49-20   ###   Elsewhere, the UNIVERSITY OF THE CUMBERLANDS PATRIOTS won 45-11 at the UNION COMMONWEALTH UNIVERSITY BULLDOGS   ###   And the (22) SOUTHERN OREGON UNIVERSITY RAIDERS (should be Seagulls) shut out the SIMPSON UNIVERSITY RED HAWKS 59-0.

BATTLE OF INTERSTATE-85 – This game pitted the FAULKNER UNIVERSITY EAGLES (should be the Fury) against their guests the POINT UNIVERSITY SKYHAWKS. A 3-0 1st Quarter edge for Faulkner became a 13-3 advantage by the Half. The 3rd Quarter ended with the Skyhawks pulling to within 13-8 but in the 4th the Eagles scored 15 unanswered points for a 28-8 triumph.

ROAD RAGE – The WILLIAM PENN UNIVERSITY STATESMEN traveled to face the WILLIAM WOODS UNIVERSITY OWLS last night. The Statesmen went up 14-6 on the Owls in the opening Quarter and never looked back. A 28-9 Halftime lead became 49-9 in a huge 3rd Quarter for William Penn University, and 52-23 to end the 4th.

DOUBLING UP ON THE COMPETITION – The (13) DICKINSON STATE BLUE HAWKS took the field against the visiting VALLEY CITY STATE VIKINGS. A 7-7 1st Quarter tie was followed by a 17-15 edge for the Blue Hawks at the midpoint. After the break, Dickinson State shut out the Vikings on their way to a 30-15 victory.

THE LIONS SLEPT LAST NIGHT – The (15) MIDAMERICA NAZARENE UNIVERSITY PIONEERS welcomed the NELSON UNIVERSITY LIONS (formerly Southwestern Assemblies of God University). A 3-3 opening Quarter tie was as close as things got, as the Pioneers went up 23-3 by Halftime, 23-6 in the 3rd Quarter and 37-13 to end the 4th.   

NCAA DIVISION TWO

UPSETS IN THE RANKINGS – The MICHIGAN TECH HUSKIES played host to the number 19 BEMIDJI STATE BEAVERS and overpowered them to the tune of 37-17    ###    Meanwhile, the DELTA STATE STATESMEN were at home against the 24th ranked UNIVERSITY OF CENTRAL MISSOURI MULES. This was a much closer affair as the Statesmen won out by a final tally of 31-23.

NUMBER FOUR STAMPEDES – The number 4 team in the nation – the MINNESOTA STATE MAVERICKS – welcomed the NORTHWEST MISSOURI STATE BEARCATS. The Mavericks were all business last night and by Halftime they were on top of Northwest Missouri State 21-0. After the break, Minnesota State outscored the Bearcats 17-14 for a 38-14 blowout.

ROAD WARRIORS – The MINNESOTA STATE AT MOORHEAD DRAGONS won a 44-37 Instant Classic at the NORTHERN MICHIGAN UNIVERSITY WILDCATS   ###   Elsewhere, the NORTHEASTERN STATE RIVERHAWKS got a 28-21 victory at the SAGINAW VALLEY STATE CARDINALS   ###   And the EDINBORO UNIVERSITY FIGHTING SCOTS beat the EAST STROUDSBURG WARRIORS 29-14. 

HAPPY HOME STAND – In this game the QUINCY UNIVERSITY HAWKS entertained the CONCORDIA (St. Paul) UNIVERSITY GOLDEN BEARS. The Hawks kept Concordia-St. Paul off the scoreboard until the 4th quarter while piling up points for themselves. A 17-0 Halftime advantage ultimately became a 44-7 blowout win for Quincy U.

ALL NAME GAMES – The number 7 COLORADO STATE AT PUEBLO THUNDER WOLVES achieved defensive perfection against the visiting SOUTH DAKOTA M&T HARDROCKERS, crushing them 43-0    ###    And the WALSH UNIVERSITY CAVALIERS sent the WEST LIBERTY UNIVERSITY HILLTOPPERS back home reeling from a 38-10 beatdown.

DOWN TO THE WIRE – The UNIVERSITY OF NEBRASKA AT KEARNEY LOPERS took it on the road against the WAYNE STATE WILDCATS yesterday. A 7-7 1st Quarter tie turned into a 14-14 deadlock at the Half. Neither team scored in the 3rd Quarter, but the 4th saw the Lopers pull off a 28-21 victory over Wayne State.

NUMBER THREE ROLLS – The nation’s 3rd ranked NORTHWEST MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE RANGERS paid a visit to the PEARL RIVER COLLEGE WILDCATS. What started out as a close game saw the Rangers on top by a mere 14-10 edge in the opening Quarter. That became a 28-10 advantage for Northwest Mississippi College by the break and ultimately a 42-17 manhandling of the Wildcats.

NUMBER NINE … NUMBER NINE … – In this game the 9th ranked team in the country – the COPIAH-LINCOLN COLLEGE WOLFPACK – welcomed the COAHOMA COLLEGE TIGERS. This was no contest as the Wolfpack savagely tore apart Coahoma College by leading them 22-0, 36-0 and 42-0 in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Quarters, respectively. CLC won 42-3.

TEN TRIUMPHS – The nation’s number 10 team – the MISSISSIPPI GULF COAST COLLEGE BULLDOGS – hosted the EAST MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE LIONS. The Lions were out in front 14-6 in the 1st Quarter but the Bulldogs went up 20-14 by Halftime. MGCC outscored East Mississippi College 21-7 from there for a 41-21 victory.

WHY DON’T WE DO IT ON THE ROAD? – The JONES COLLEGE BOBCATS traveled to take on the MISSISSIPPI DELTA COLLEGE TROJANS and managed to shut them out by a final tally of 33-0    ###    And the SOUTHWEST MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE BEARS crushed their hosts the HOLMES COLLEGE BULLDOGS 34-6.

EAGLES AND INDIANS – This game pitted the HINDS COLLEGE EAGLES against the home standing ITAWAMBA COLLEGE INDIANS. The Eagles were in charge all the way, converting a 14-0 opening Quarter advantage into a 21-0 lead at the midpoint. After the break, Hinds College defeated the Indians by a final score of 34-7.

NJCAA GAME OF THE NIGHT – The NORTHEAST MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE TIGERS visited the EAST CENTRAL COLLEGE WARRIORS. A 7-7 tie in the 1st Quarter became a 14-10 Tigers lead by Halftime. The 3rd Quarter ended with Northeast Mississippi College leading 17-13 and in the 4th the Tigers won the game 24-13.

Next week NCAA Division Three and the CCCAA join the rest of these divisions in kicking off their 2025 season.
