FAILED PREDICTIONS FROM PSYCHICS AND SCIENTISTS: SUPERCUT

For reader convenience, every Failed Predictions post from when I started them in 2017 onward.

JANUARY 2nd, 2017

With a new year underway – 2017 C.E. – Balladeer’s Blog takes a look at some past predictions by “psychics” (LMAO) that turned out to be wildly off the mark.

FREDERICK DAVIES – In 1978 he predicted:

— Jimmy Carter would get reelected.

— In the early 1980s sea research would result in a cure for various types of cancer.

— A manned landing on Mars would be made by 1985.

— By 1988 a third of all homes would be using solar energy for cooking and heating.

— Private automobiles would be banned … by 1990.

— Also by 1990 life would be discovered on Jupiter and communication with another planet – possibly from beyond our solar system – would be achieved.

— Between 1999-2001 the origin of the UFO sightings around the world would be determined.

MARIS DE LONG – In 1978 she predicted:

— By the year 2000 cures for cancer would be discovered by an American-born doctor on the East Coast.

— Also by the year 2000 earthquakes would cause the disappearance of several islands near the Philippines.

— By 1999 humanity would learn that thousands of aliens are already living among us and that their planet of origin is burning up from radiation.

— Nutrient life forms would be discovered on Mars by 1990.

— Jimmy Carter would get reelected and become the most beloved American leader of the 20th Century … LMFAO!

JOSEPH DELOUISE – In 1978 he predicted:

— By 1980 marijuana would be legalized in the entire United States.

— By 1996 Muslims and Jews would unite, ending the problems in the Middle East. That’s a relief!  

— World hunger would be defeated as a problem but unemployment would still be an issue.

— Japan would undergo a revolution and merge with China.

JEANE DIXON – In 1978 she predicted:

— America would be split by a major Civil War in the 1980s.

— By the year 2000 aliens would give Earth the secret of solar energy and would bring together all of the world’s scientists in a joint effort for the benefit of all humanity.

— A sun pill would be developed. Taken orally this “concentrated dose of solar energy” would prove to have great health benefits. 

— The Catholic Church would abolish the Papacy by the year 2000.  

— Telepathy and faith-healing would be used by nearly everyone. This, too, was supposed to happen by the year 2000.

— By 2019 China would try to take over the world but would ultimately be defeated.

— In 2020 the Antichrist would be exposed and the Battle of Armageddon would be fought, involving millions of troops. (Given Dixon’s track record I would not place bets on this one, either.)

TENNY HALE – In 1978 she predicted:

— By the year 2000 most diseases would be treated homeopathically and by sound therapy.

— A nuclear catastrophe by 2000 would destroy factories which produce chemicals and synthetic foods, eliminating those GMOs from our lives. What an oddly specific nuclear disaster.

— Between 1979 and 2000 ancient manuscripts unearthed on the Yucatan Peninsula would change the world’s attitude toward religion and would contain secrets that allow people to levitate themselves and other objects.

— Also by 2000 AD law enforcement would be done almost exclusively by psychics.

— Between 1979 and 2000 genetic experiments would create hybrid monsters like the chimeric creatures from ancient myths. The havoc wreaked by those creatures would result in the curbing of such experimentation.

— Around the year 2000 earthquakes, droughts and nuclear accidents would result in the end of most human life on Earth. Russia would rule most of what remains as humanity moves into underground cities with no individual rights. The population would be held in thrall by telepaths.

JANUARY 4th, 2017

The readers of Balladeer’s Blog have spoken! You enjoyed the first go-round of these nuggets so much I’m posting this second helping right now!

IRENE HUGHES – In 1978 she predicted:

— In 1980 Russia would land Cosmonauts on the moon to conduct nuclear weapons tests and international outrage over the incident would result in bloodshed.

— Specifically in January of 1980 San Francisco would suffer an earthquake even more severe than the 1906 earthquake that devastated the city.

— Jimmy Carter would get reelected with a black Vice Presidential candidate replacing Walter Mondale on the ticket.

— The next passing of Halley’s Comet in the 1980s would result in massive upheavals on Earth such as earthquakes, tsunamis and the outbreak of multiple wars.

— The U.S. President would die of natural causes in or near Russia in 1981.

— Organized religions in the United States would start getting taxed by 1984 at the latest.

— By 1982 either Texas or another state would secede from the United States.

— In 1981 Tanzania would become a nuclear power.

— A Third Party would emerge in the United States and would win offices in 1984. (We should have been so lucky.)

— In 1986 voices from outer space would shock the Earth.

KEBRINA KINKADE – In 1978 she predicted:

— The U.S. and Soviet Union would launch joint manned missions to Mars and Saturn.

— A one-world dollar would be in place by the year 2000.

— Also by 2000 the United Nations would be abolished.

— Between 1979-2000 solar cars would be perfected and used by the masses for transportation.

— Humanity would discover dozens of life-bearing planets outside of our solar system before the 21st Century arrived.

— Remnants of Atlantis would be discovered and would provide answers to many questions baffling scientists.

— By the year 2000 gas and oil would be outlawed and air pollution would be so bad that gas masks would be necessary just to breathe in major cities.

— Also by the turn of the century sterilization would become mandatory for couples who have had two children.

DANIEL LOGAN – In 1978 he predicted: 

— By 1980 Lucille Ball would be appointed Ambassador to an Asian country. (?)

— Between 1983 and 1987 the Pope would reveal secret information about Jesus Christ. (I’m betting it had to do with David and Maddie on Moonlighting.) 

— By 1990 the United States would replace its one-man Presidency with a 5-person consortium of Executive Leaders. Remember when that happened in 1990?

— By 1996 aliens with superior technology would instruct humanity on how to solve the Energy Crisis.

— In 1979 or 1980 Marlon Brando would establish his own country. (Maybe THIS was where Lucille Ball was supposed to get appointed as Ambassador.)

— By the year 2000 New York City would no longer exist.

— Sometime after 1979 “negative people” would use telekinesis to cause the Earth’s poles to shift and in the resulting global upheaval large land masses would reappear from beneath the sea, Japan would sink beneath the waves, the East Coast of the U.S. would be flooded and the West Coast would be split into four parts.

You readers have been asking for more of these failed predictions, so here we go with predictions for 1975-2000:

MALCOLM BESSENT

*** By 1979 the United States will have a war with China.

*** New York city will be uninhabitable by 1980 because of rising water levels. People are STILL trying to sell that one. They just keep pushing the alleged time period further and further into the future.

DAVID BUBAR

*** By 1980 social drinking will virtually come to an end in America due to health consciousness.

*** By 1979 M.D.’s will ally themselves with faith healers. (Maybe as a Bowling League, but certainly in no other way)

*** By 1990 psychics will hold important government positions as intuition and clairvoyance become more important.

*** During the 1980s consumption of the chemicals in food will cause generations of freakishly tall people. Their abnormal size will weaken their bodies and personalities.

*** By the mid-1980s both America and the Soviet Union will try to colonize the moon, leading to military “police actions” on the moon itself.

*** Invisible rays will be harnessed to guide space travel. (I just don’t see that ever happening … See what I did there?) 

*** A superior species of human will be developed outside the female body by 1990.

*** Also by 1990 human beings will be able to harness their thoughts into images on a television-like screen and telephones will be used for thought transmissions.

*** In 1986 a TAD – Thought Action Deed – machine will appear. This device will allow scientists to tune into past, present or future events. (Remember when that happened in 1986?) 

*** By the year 2000 either American or Russian scientists will invent invisibility devices which look like either a flashlight or an aerosol can.

*** Also by the year 2000 people will be able to unleash their Astral Bodies to travel to other places while they sleep, so that they can explore or conduct business. 

CRISWELL

Okay, it’s up to you if you think anything predicted by Criswell should EVER have been taken seriously, but he was credited with accurately predicting the Six-Day War in 1967, Ronald Reagan’s election as Governor of California, Jayne Mansfield’s death, the assassination of “a black civil rights leader” in 1968 and that President John F Kennedy would not run for reelection in 1964 because of “something that would happen to him” in November 1963.

*** In the late 1970s a female physicist in Nebraska will discover anti-magnetic forces which will make space travel possible.

*** In 1976 the U.S. will join Canada and Mexico in a Common Market.

*** In March of that same year, the United States government will give almost all of New Mexico back to Native American tribes. (The ultimate “Screw You” to the hate group La Raza!)

*** In 1977 a disease will kill all the cattle in Wisconsin. (All the Cattle in Wisconsin would make a great title for a country western song)

*** No rain will fall for 10 months in 1977, tides will end and ships will run aground. A “black death” will wipe out thousands of people. Droughts from the lack of rain will force migrations of people to the North and South Poles to get water by melting ice. When rain finally falls again after the 10 month drought it will cause flooding and a woman in Pratt, KS (?) will save the lives of 500 people and become a national heroine. (Joan of Pratt?)   

*** On August 27th, 1977 a VOLCANO will rise in Lago Maggiore in Switzerland.

*** In 1978 Lake Michigan will be drained for land use.

*** By the year 1980 New York City will be under water. (Apparently humanity’s seminal dream is for New York City to be submerged)

*** From November 28th to December of 1980, Pennsylvanians will be afflicted by an outbreak of cannibalism caused by an experiment that goes awry.

*** By 1980 all of the mentally ill people in the U.S. will be sent to a complex in Oregon built by the federal government. (In actuality they’re all defecating on the streets of San Francisco)

*** By 1981 the federal government will have put birth-control substances in the water system. In order to conceive, people will need to get a pill from the government. (Presumably to counteract the birth-control substances)

*** In 1981 Montana will become the Penal State. (Now THAT would look good on a license plate!) All criminals given prison sentences will be sent there.

*** On February 11th, 1981, a foreign power will attempt to bomb the United States. The attempt will fail but 50 people in Vermont will be killed. (If only Ben and Jerry had been among them!)

*** Between February 11th and May 11th, 1983, all the women in Saint Louis will lose their hair. (I guess on May 12th they’ll find it again)

*** In 1985 North Dakota will legalize polygamy. (North Dakota?) 

*** Also in 1985 Texas will split into 3 separate states.

*** In 1988 extraterrestrials will visit the Earth. (At last! Dan Quayle explained!)

*** On October 18th, 1988, a meteor will hit London, almost destroying the city. (Stiff Upper Lip Brits will refer to the event as “the recent unpleasantness”)

*** In the 1980s Mexico City will sink into a lakebed and all of its people will be evacuated.

*** Also in the 1980s all pollution problems will be solved. (Well THAT’S a relief!)

*** By the year 2000 space flights to Venus, Mars and Neptune will be a reality.

JANUARY 3rd, 2020

Balladeer’s Blog’s previous items on hilariously failed predictions by “psychics” were so popular here’s a fourth installment.

JEANE DIXON

*** By 1990 the U.S. will have its first female president.

*** In 1988 the Russians and their satellite nations will invade the Middle East and occupy Israel and its neighboring Muslim nations. The resulting war of resistance against the Soviets will last 7 years.

*** In 1995 the United States, United Kingdom, France, Germany and Japan will establish a headquarters in Rome to begin strategizing for a counteroffensive against the Soviets in the Middle East. A great Allied leader will emerge from the Rome preparations.

*** In 1999 the Allies will be at war with the Soviets. Russian nuclear missiles will wipe out most coastal cities in the U.S. as well as many cities in Europe.

*** In the year 2000 the Soviet forces in Israel will be destroyed by the U.S. and its allies. The great Allied leader mentioned before will be hailed as a savior, ruler and conquering hero. However, they will prove to be a “false prophet of evil.” (So would a false prophet of evil be a prophet of goodness?) 

*** By 2005 China will conquer all of Asia and move into the Middle East. Nuclear war will be unleashed again and China will be defeated after the loss of millions of lives. (Sure, we can look back on it now and laugh, but back THEN …)

IRENE HUGHES

*** In the 1970s and 1980s arthritis, multiple sclerosis and epilepsy will be cured.

*** By 1982 the United States will have a new monetary system.

*** By 1990 a Hitlerian group will take over both East and West Germany (lol) and will start a war that spreads from Europe to the U.S.     

JOSEPH DELOUISE

*** Air pollution will be eliminated.  

*** Detroit will become the capital of a smaller nation formed inside the United States.

*** During a period of unrest in the Caribbean, pirates will capture a large ship.

ANN JENSEN

*** By the year 2000 a woman will be at the head of a World Government, the headquarters of which will shift from one country to another.

*** Also by the year 2000 man-made islands will be built in space for “our grandchildren.”

*** Again, by the year 2000 a new planet will be discovered which has trees, water, strange fruits and vegetables plus animal life of some kind.

OLOF JONSSON

*** By 1980 internal combustion engines will be outlawed in all major American cities.

*** By 1990 only medical and law enforcement personnel will be allowed to use cars and those cars will be powered by electricity.

*** By the year 2000 humans will no longer need to consume plants and animals but will be nourished by sunlight. 

BILL LINN

*** By 1980 the U.S. will be run by a committee rather than a president, but heads of labor unions will wield tremendous power and will dictate how people will live and on what terms.

*** Also by 1980 all the less-developed nations of the world will unite against the Soviet Union, China and United States.

ETHEL JOHNSON MEYERS

*** In the late 1970s or early 1980s Communist China will use atomic bombs in the United States.

*** Mao Tse-tung will die by 1973.

DOCTOR N (This was the actual alias of a supposed physician and/or psychiatrist who did not want their identity known when they gave predictions.)

*** The Communist Chinese will bomb San Francisco on December 29th, 1970.

*** The United States and China will be at war by 1972 at the latest. America’s west coast states will become uninhabitable by radioactive fallout from something called “water blasts.” By the war’s end most of the U.S. will be destroyed and 190 million Chinese people would be dead.

*** By 1972 a Dr Martin will discover a cure for cancer.

*** Following a war in 1979 cancer research will be of prime importance. (No specification but I guess it was supposed to be a nuclear war.) Odd, since Dr N also claimed cancer would be cured by 1972. 

*** The U.S. president in 1981 will die in office after serving for 12 years. Ooookay. Ronald Reagan was president in 1981 and he did not die while serving his entire constitutionally-limited term of 8 years. This prediction also contained an implied Constitutional Amendment that would allow presidents to serve more than 2 4-year terms.

*** By 1986 one out of every three children will be deformed in some way by radiation.

JOHN REEVES

*** In 1970 detention camps will be used for Vietnam War and Civil Rights demonstrators.

*** A cure for cancer will be available by 1991.

*** By 1980 Baja California and California will separate, making Baja California an island. In similar planetary shifting, 5 or 6 new islands will rise in the Caribbean.

*** By the year 2000 all racial problems will have been resolved through intermarriage.

SHAWN ROBBINS

*** In 1975 a doctor with a name like Frazer or Azur with a white crew cut will find a way to perform heart transplants using cold in a way that eliminates the danger of organ rejection.

*** By the end of the 1980s the U.S. will add a new legislative branch.

*** Whoever is president in 1989 (George H.W. Bush as it turned out) will see their wife die during the 2nd year of his term. Barbara Bush did not die in 1990. Unless you’re pushing a theory that she died and was replaced by a look-alike.

ALAN VAUGHN

*** Richard Nixon will become seriously ill in December of 1973 and be replaced as president.

*** Ted Kennedy will be elected president in 1976.

*** There will be no presidential election in 1980 because a constitutional convention (he may have meant either a Constitutional Amendment or a Convention of the States) will change a president’s term to just one term of either 5 or 6 years.

*** A new form of rocket propulsion will be discovered by 1980. This will increase the speed of spacecraft to the point where it will take just one month to reach Mars.

*** Also by 1980 New York City will be under water. NOTE: I will say again that apparently New York City being submerged must be some kind of seminal dream for the human race since every one of these lists of failed predictions has that metropolis under water by some point. Today people STILL push this prediction and keep pushing the date further and further into the future.

MARCH 24th, 2020

Balladeer’s Blog once again shamelessly panders gives readers what they want with yet ANOTHER list of Twenty Failed Predictions By Psychics.

BERKELEY PSYCHIC INSTITUTE (For 1975-1981)

*** In 1978 a war would break out between the Soviet Union and Germany. Several smaller countries would be drawn into the conflict and ultimately a new government would rise in the Soviet Union.

*** In 1976 the President of Mexico along with members of his family and two of his ministers would be assassinated, ending in the overthrow of the government.

*** Around 1978 or 1979 a Slovakian avatar would appear. This figure would operate on a psychic level and some time later would manifest himself as God. (Remember when that happened? Good times.) 

*** On May 26th, 1977 a war over fishing rights would break out between the Soviet Union and Greenland with nuclear torpedoes being used.

*** In 1980 several icebergs near the North Pole would break apart, revealing the remains of an advanced ancient civilization. Among the items that the submarine explorers would find would be machines, a time capsule and possibly materials from another planet revealing that they kicked off life on Earth. A giant glowing ball radiating tremendous energy would drive away the explorers.

*** The Prime Minister of Japan would be assassinated in February or the first two weeks of March in 1978.

*** Also in 1978 China would instigate an internal uprising in Afghanistan. 

*** In 1981 a figure appointed to the United States Supreme Court would go on to at some point become the Vice President of the U.S. This figure would have a double last name or a surname with a “Van” in it. (Ethan Van Sciver? He is everywhere!) 

*** Late in 1976 or 1977 revolutions would sweep through India.

*** In 1978 a major earthquake would hit northern California and parts of Oregon.

*** Egypt would start trying to expand its borders.

*** In November of 1977 extensive flooding would hit coastal Virginia, killing 200 people.

*** In 1978 or 1979 a scientist in China or the Soviet Union would discover some new way of using the atom to produce energy.

EDGAR CAYCE (For 1998)

*** New York City would be destroyed.

*** Alabama would be partially underwater.

*** The Earth’s north and south poles would shift.

*** Cayce predicted that in 1998 he would “return” as a world liberator. He would also be reborn in the year 2100 A.D.

*** Peace would come to the Earth in 1998, I guess as a result of Edgar’s predicted return.

ALAN VAUGHN

*** By the year 2000 a new major religion combining sun worship with elements of Christianity and other existing religions would catch on.

*** Also by the year 2000 a great war would be fought on the “plains of Palestine” but Israel would be neither destroyed nor diminished.

SEPTEMBER 29th, 2020

Yes, it’s another Top 20 for 2020 list! And it’s another one about failed predictions, this time from alleged psychics of long, long ago instead of the recent past. As always these bogus predictions are fun from a Flash Fiction angle.

MALACHY O’MORGAIN (1094-1148)

*** The reign of the final Pope ever will come to a close in 2013. Since that is obviously wrong, these other predictions about O’Morgain’s Final Popes are wrong as well.

*** Before 2013 a Pope who was born in a Middle Eastern country will witness massive persecutions of Christians during his reign and will ultimately fall victim to the persecutors himself.

*** The final Pope to call himself Leo will oversee a period in which all of humanity unites under Christianity.

*** Petrus Romanus, Peter of Rome, will be the very last Pope. He will preside over the destruction of Rome and the end of the world in 2013.

URSULA SONTHIEL (1488-1561)

*** A Muslim leader with a ferocious army will conquer all of Europe before finally taking England itself.

*** A Holy War to retake England will break out with the United States (she said “the New World”) and Russia fighting on the side of Christianity. Much of England will be laid waste.

COINNEACH ODHAR (1630-1685)

*** A submarine in Holy Loch will unleash a missile powerful enough to destroy all of Scotland.

*** All people in Scotland will be dead and the few animals that survive will be wiped out by a subsequent Black Rain.

LEO TOLSTOI (1828-1910) On his deathbed this writer issued prophecies.

*** In the 1930s a Mongolian Slav will emerge as a great global reformer. He will rally the world to reject monotheism and embrace pantheism.

*** Humanity will replace concepts like monogamy and polygamy with poetagamy – sexual relations based on poetic interpretations of life.

*** Ultimately the nations of the world will do away with armies, religions and “degenerate art.”

HELENA BLAVATSKY (1831-1891) Yes, THE Madame Blavatsky.

*** A new spiritual leader of the Western World will appear by 1975.

*** The New Race, like the Vrillic Race written about by Bulwer-Lytton, will emerge in America. They will be altered in mentality and physique and lead the world toward a more perfect spiritual existence.

COUNT LOUIS HAMON (1866-1936)

*** France will be taken over by a dictator who will introduce an entirely new form of government.

*** The United States will have dominion over space travel.

*** China and Japan will unite and rule the Eastern Hemisphere.

NICHOLAS ROERICH (1874-1947)

*** A war involving all the nations of the world will devastate the planet.

*** In the anarchy that follows, even the survivors will make war on each other, small tribe against small tribe.

*** “Warriors who teach the truth” will be reincarnated around the world and will begin performing miracles.

*** Within a few years these warriors will heal the Earth enough that the trees will grow rich with fruit. The world will be led by the Maitreya, the new spiritual king.

JANUARY 3rd, 2021

This post presents sixteen failed predictions from the year 1975. 

MCGEORGE BUNDY

*** In 1984 a succession of sudden surprise nuclear explosions will strike an American city. The Nuclear Uses Technology Reaction Analysis Team (NUTRAT, and how appropriate is THAT acronym?) will investigate and declare China to be the culprit.

*** In Phase Two of Bundy’s bizarre, yet apparently sincere prediction, the U.S. would have retaliated by nuking a large city in China.

*** Next Bundy predicted that China would assume that the Soviet Union was behind America’s blaming of them for the initial nuclear explosions and would in turn nuke a large Russian city. All of this reads like something from a satirical tale like Dr Strangelove but was meant seriously.

*** It would turn out that terrorists from two totalitarian countries hostile to the U.S. were really the forces behind the original attack.

*** The U.S. would pay reparations to China. Ten million people would have died in the three destroyed cities.

*** Bundy also predicted that in 2024 a world conference on under-employment and inflation will be held. 

YEHEZKEL DROR

*** A new dictatorship established in Indonesia would work toward a nuclear weapons program.

*** That same dictatorship would use terrorist groups to disrupt its neighboring nations. Soviet/ Russian backing would force the rest of the world to tread lightly where the Indonesian dictatorship’s actions are concerned. 

*** The Indonesian regime would try to conquer Malaysia, Singapore, New Guinea and the Philippines. Its agents would even make inroads into Australia.

*** Economic and political chaos in France would result in a junta by generals and high-ranking civil servants who would restore order through sheer physical force.

*** France would go on to try to become the dominant power in Europe by destroying the European Common Market.

*** Mexican nationalism would lead to widespread terrorist activity in the U.S.

*** In Kuwait, power would be seized by a band of Islamic religious zealots who seek world domination. Kuwait’s income from oil would increase and the new government would use its resources to build up its army, steal weapons secrets from other countries and build up its missile and nuclear capability.

EMMET JOHN HUGHES aka “Eminent John”

*** By 2024 North and South Korea will be united under one communist regime.

*** Also by 2024 Quebec will secede from Canada and form an independent republic.

*** By that same year Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba will secede from Canada and become part of the U.S. 

FEBRUARY 7th, 2021

Balladeer’s Blog’s previous lists of failed predictions from psychics, religious figures and even scientists have been big hits. Here’s another list looking at such failed predictions, made in 1975.

JAMES BONNER

*** By 1980 doctors will be able to grow new hearts and livers for human beings and after 2 or 3 years insert them into the patient’s anatomy to replace the failing organs. 

*** In “the near future” cloning might be used to develop a superspecies of human beings.

D.G. BRENNAN

*** By 2018 hurricanes will be controllable and used as weapons in warfare.

*** Also by 2018 soldiers will be lifted by back-carried antigravity belts.

ARTHUR C CLARKE

*** By the year 2000 cars without wheels will float on air and road signs will likely say “No wheeled vehicles on this highway.”

*** Also by the year 2000 air-conditioned, domed and/or underground settlements on the moon will be growing food and mining building materials from the moon itself.

*** Telepathy will enable the viewing of the past and the future. 

*** Three percent of the world’s oil could be used to feed the global population by extracting proteins from that oil. (To be fair he did not mention an exact target date for these last two.)

PAUL EHRLICH

*** In 1979 new diatom forms will appear in the sea and kill off sea life. Within a year the sea may be dead. Japan and China will then face mass starvation.

*** The two countries will blame Russia for the disaster and, after futilely demanding food from the Russians, will invade their nation.

E.S.E. HAFEZ

*** By 1990 women will be able to walk into a kind of “store” where frozen human embryos are sold in packets according to specific physical, mental and emotional attributes. They will be able to select an embryo and have it inserted so that she gives birth in roughly nine months.

OLAF HELMER

*** By the year 2000 a permanent colony will exist on the moon.

*** Also by the year 2000 a manned landing on Mars will have taken place.
