With the Superbowl coming up in just over a week here’s a look at January 31st editions of that NFL Championship Game.
JANUARY 31st, 1988
SUPERBOWL XXII – The WASHINGTON REDSKINS clashed with the DENVER BRONCOS in San Diego, CA. The period of NFC dominance over the AFC continued as the Broncos saw their 10-0 1st Quarter lead over Washington turn into a 35-10 Redskins advantage by Halftime. Neither team scored in the 3rd Quarter and the final tally was Washington 42 Denver 10.
JANUARY 31st, 1993
SUPERBOWL XXVII – This time around the DALLAS COWBOYS took on the BUFFALO BILLS in Pasadena, CA. The Cowboys led the hapless Bills 14-7 in the opening Quarter and 28-10 at the Half. From there, Buffalo lost their 3rd Superbowl in a row as Dallas went on to clobber them by a score of 52-17. The following year the Cowboys would again defeat Buffalo in the Superbowl.
JANUARY 31st, 1999
SUPERBOWL XXXIII – The DENVER BRONCOS did battle with the ATLANTA FALCONS in Miami, FL. The 1st Quarter ended in a 7-3 Broncos edge, which became a 17-6 lead by the midpoint of the game. After the break a scoreless 3rd Quarter was followed by a closing frame which saw Denver triumph 34-19. Broncos QB John Elway got to end his career with 2 Superbowl wins in a row.
