BALLADEER’S BLOG’S COLLEGE FOOTBALL POSTSEASON RESULTS

NEPTUNE BOWL – The two Independent teams clashing in this Bowl Game were the NEWPORT NEWS APPRENTICE SCHOOL BUILDERS (Shipbuilders) and the ATLANTIS UNIVERSITY ATLANTEANS. The 1st Quarter ended with the Builders up just 7-0 but they floored it from there. By Halftime the Apprentice School led 24-0 on their way to a 59-6 blowout victory. 

NAIA PLAYOFFS

ROUND ONE: GAME ONE – The SOUTHWESTERN COLLEGE MOUNDBUILDERS welcomed the UNIVERSITY OF ST. FRANCIS (IN) COUGARS. This tale of 2 Halves saw the Moundbuilders holding a midpoint lead of 24-10. From there the Cougars rallied but fell short as Southwestern College went on to win the game 31-24. 

ROUND ONE: GAME TWO – This game pitted the UNIVERSITY OF PIKEVILLE BEARS against their hosts the BAKER UNIVERSITY WILDCATS. Baker U. was on top 14-7 in the 1st Quarter but the Bears took a 28-21 lead by Halftime. The 3rd Quarter ended in a 35-35 deadlock but UPike ended the 4th with a 42-35 triumph.

ROUND ONE: GAME THREE – The DICKINSON STATE BLUE HAWKS took the field against the visiting KANSAS WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY COYOTES. A 10-7 opening Quarter edge for the Blue Hawks became a 14-10 lead for the Coyotes at the Half. Kansas Wesleyan expanded their advantage to 20-13 in the 3rd Quarter before Dickinson State roared back to win the game 27-20.

ROUND ONE: GAME FOUR – Closing out Round One was this game between the FRIENDS UNIVERSITY FALCONS and their guests the OTTAWA UNIVERSITY (AZ) SPIRIT. By the break the Falcons were in front 26-21. The 3rd saw Friends University go up 40-21, then hold off the Spirit in the 4th for a 47-35 victory.

NCAA DIVISION TWO PLAYOFFS

FIRST ROUND: GAME ONE – The MINNESOTA STATE MAVERICKS traveled to face the AUGUSTANA (SD) VIKINGS. A scoreless 1st Quarter was followed by a 9-7 Augustana edge by the Half. That became a 16-10 Vikings lead in the 3rd Quarter before the Mavericks came from behind to win this 20-19 Instant Classic. 

FIRST ROUND: GAME TWO – The ASHLAND UNIVERSITY EAGLES took it on the road against the UNIVERSITY OF CHARLESTON GOLDEN EAGLES. The Golden Eagles were on top 14-10 at Halftime and 21-17 to end the 3rd Quarter. In the 4th Ashland U. outscored UC 23-17 to win the game by a final tally of 40-38.

FIRST ROUND: GAME THREE – In this game the VIRGINIA UNION UNIVERSITY PANTHERS visited the WINGATE UNIVERSITY BULLDOGS. The Bulldogs led 10-7 to end the opening Quarter but the Panthers went on top 21-20 by the midpoint. The 4th Quarter ended in a 28-28 tie, with Virginia Union winning 34-31 in Overtime.

FIRST ROUND: GAME FOUR – The LENOIR-RHYNE UNIVERSITY BEARS found themselves on the road against the UNIVERSITY OF WEST ALABAMA TIGERS. A 7-7 1st Quarter tie turned into a 27-24 Tigers edge at Halftime. The 3rd Quarter ended knotted up at 34-34 and the 4th saw the Bears triumph 37-34. 

FIRST ROUND: GAME FIVE – The BEMIDJI STATE BEAVERS took on the home standing ANGELO STATE RAMS in this postseason clash. The Beavers were up 7-0 and 14-7 in the 1st and 2nd Quarters, respectively. Neither team scored in the 3rd, while Bemidji State added 10 more points to the 7 put up by the Rams in the 4th. The Beavers won 24-14. 

FIRST ROUND: GAME SIX – This was the shocker of the day as the HARDING UNIVERSITY BISON visited the PITTSBURG (KS) STATE GORILLAS. The Gorillas led 3-0 in the opening Quarter but those were the only points they’d put up. From there the Bison led 24-3 at the Half and 38-3 in the 3rd before winning the game 48-3. 

FIRST ROUND: GAME SEVEN – The MILES COLLEGE GOLDEN BEARS played host to the CARSON-NEWMAN UNIVERSITY EAGLES. The Golden Bears were on top 7-0 in the 1st Quarter and 14-10 by Halftime. A scoreless 3rd Quarter was followed by a 14-13 Miles College triumph over the Eagles.

FIRST ROUND: GAME EIGHT – Next the CALIFORNIA (PA) UNIVERSITY VULCANS welcomed the EAST STROUDSBURG UNIVERSITY WARRIORS. By the midpoint the Warriors were out in front by a score of 21-13. After the break the Vulcans outscored East Stroudsburg 17-6 for a 30-27 victory.

FIRST ROUND: GAME NINE – The WESTERN COLORADO UNIVERSITY MOUNTAINEERS did battle with the visiting CENTRAL WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY WILDCATS. The Mountaineers managed 7 points in each Quarter, tied with the Wildcats in the opening Quarter, leading them 14-10 in the 2nd and 21-10 in the 3rd before winning out 28-21.

FIRST ROUND: GAME TEN – The ROCK of SLIPPERY ROCK UNIVERSITY entertained the UNIVERSITY OF NEW HAVEN CHARGERS in this game. The Rock was on top 7-0 in the 1st Quarter and that score remained unchanged at Halftime. The 3rd Quarter ended with Slippery Rock U. up 14-7 and that held up as the final score, too.

FIRST ROUND: GAME ELEVEN – This game pitted the UNIVERSITY OF CENTRAL OKLAHOMA BRONCHOS (their spelling) against their guests the OUACHITA BAPTIST UNIVERSITY TIGERS. A 7-7 opening Quarter tie became a 14-7 Bronchos lead by the Half. The Tigers forced Overtime with a 31-31 tie in the 4th but UCO won the game 38-31.

FIRST ROUND: GAME TWELVE – Lastly, the GRAND VALLEY STATE LAKERS hosted the UNIVERSITY OF INDIANAPOLIS GREYHOUNDS. A 7-0 advantage for the Lakers in the 1st Quarter was unchanged at the midpoint. Grand Valley State was on top 14-7 in the 3rd Quarter before taking the game 24-7 in the 4th.

NCAA DIVISION THREE PLAYOFFS

ROUND ONE: GAME ONE – The KING’S COLLEGE MONARCHS took the field against the visiting URSINUS COLLEGE BEARS. A 13-12 Monarchs edge at the break turned into a 22-19 lead for the Bears to end the 3rd Quarter. The 4th saw King’s College emerge with a 32-29 victory.

ROUND ONE: GAME TWO – The MARYVILLE COLLEGE SCOTS traveled to play the BERRY UNIVERSITY VIKINGS. The Scots led 7-6 in the 1st Quarter but the Vikings went up 13-7 by Halftime. Berry U. expanded their lead to 16-7 in the 3rd Quarter before Maryville College fought their way back to win the game 20-16.

ROUND ONE: GAME THREE – This game saw the BETHEL (MN) ROYALS welcome the COE COLLEGE KOHAWKS. These two teams went nearly point for point in the opening Half, with the Royals leading the Kohawks by a mere 21-20 at the break. From there Bethel University outscored Coe 10-6 for a 31-26 triumph.

ROUND ONE: GAME FOUR – The UNIVERSITY OF MARY HARDIN-BAYLOR CRUSADERS were on the road against the TRINITY (TX) TIGERS. When Halftime arrived the Crusaders were on top of Trinity 14-12. That became a 21-12 advantage in the 3rd Quarter and a 29-22 victory in the 4th.

ROUND ONE: GAME FIVE – The WHITWORTH UNIVERSITY PIRATES hosted the POMONA-PITZER COLLEGE SAGEHENS in this game. The Pirates led the Sagehens 14-3 and 14-10 in the 1st and 2nd Quarters, respectively. A defense dominated 2nd Half ended with Whitworth University winning out 21-13.

ROUND ONE: GAME SIX – Obliteration was the name of the game as the ENDICOTT COLLEGE GULLS welcomed the ALFRED STATE PIONEERS. The Gulls shut out the Pioneers while piling on the points for themselves. When the dust had settled, Endicott had triumphed by a final tally of 44-0.

ROUND ONE: GAME SEVEN – The JOHN CARROLL UNIVERSITY BLUE STREAKS utterly dominated their guests the MOUNT ST. JOSEPH UNIVERSITY LIONS. The Blue Streaks kept their opponents off the scoreboard until the 4th Quarter while putting up 10, 21, 14 and 7 points in the 4 Quarters for a 52-7 shellacking of the Lions.

ROUND ONE: GAME EIGHT – Closing out the playoffs yesterday was this game between the UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN AT LACROSSE EAGLES and the visiting UNIVERSITY OF NORTHWESTERN (MN) EAGLES. UW-Lacrosse grabbed a 17-0 1st Quarter lead and never looked back on their way to a 59-14 blowout win.

NCAA DIVISION THREE BOWL GAMES

LAKEFRONT BOWL – The ST. NORBERT COLLEGE GREEN KNIGHTS took on the MONMOUTH (IL) FIGHTING SCOTS in this Bowl. A 7-7 1st Quarter tie morphed into a 17-14 Green Knights edge come Halftime. Neither team scored in the 3rd Quarter and in the 4th St. Norbert College cemented their win 20-14.

FUSION BOWL – This postseason affair pitted the MARITIME COLLEGE PRIVATEERS against the HUSSON UNIVERSITY EAGLES. The Eagles were on top 14-7 in the opening Quarter and that was unchanged at the Half. In the 3rd Quarter the Privateers knotted things up at 14-14 before winning the game 21-14 from there.

CAPE HENRY BOWL – The WASHINGTON & LEE UNIVERSITY GENERALS collided with the WILKES UNIVERSITY COLONELS. It turned out that rank really does have its privileges as the Generals led 7-0, 20-14 and 27-14 in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Quarters, respectively. In the 4th, Washington & Lee consummated their win 40-21.

ISTHMUS BOWL – In this Bowl Game the WHEATON COLLEGE THUNDER and the UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN AT STOUT BLUE DEVILS fought it out. Even though the Thunder led 28-10 at Halftime, the Blue Devils made their move after the break. The furious Stout rally fell just short as Wheaton College held on for a 35-32 victory.

franklin & marshall college diplomatsCENTENNIAL CONFERENCE-MIDDLE ATLANTIC CONFERENCE BOWL – The FRANKLIN & MARSHALL COLLEGE DIPLOMATS from the CC did battle with the DELAWARE VALLEY UNIVERSITY AGGIES from the MAC. The Diplomats went up 7-0 in the opening Quarter and from there the defenses took over. 7-0 held up as the final score as well.
